We showed up after 2pm looking for some lunch. I didn't realize the hours posted outside but their lunch service usually ends at 2pm but they still allowed us to come in out of the rain and have a meal. Oh! How glad I am they did. The atmosphere is charming and the food is soo very good. We order the salted cod and the creamy fish stew. The rye bread is to die for-and I don't usually like rye bread at all. All the flavors went well together. To top it off we got the sticky toffee pudding to share and that was also marvelous so much so we dueled with our spoons for the last bite.

We went without a reservation at 5:30pm on a Thursday, with two kids. They had a reserved party downstairs ongoing and was fully booked starting at 7pm, but pleasantly let us in upstairs. Overlooking the bay from the big window, taking the advice of our very kind server, we ordered the shellfish soup, creamed fishstew, and mussels - they were excellent. I will be dreaming of the beautifully presented soup with a burst of flavors for a long time. The mussels melt in your mouth and was very flavorful. The creamed fishstew is available in kids’ size and our kids loved it. There are plenty of meat options too for those who aren’t into seafood. Our bill came to about USD135 including a glass of wine and a bottle of sparkling water, and was worth every penny. This restaurant is a small gem by the bay and I recommend reserving a table, and if you’re with kids, probably go in the early hours before it gets busy for a comfortable experience.

I was with a group of 14 people for a 3-course dinner with an included drink. The food was great. I was one of the 2 vegetarians in the group and they accommodated our dietary restrictions. They have also accommodated others dietary restrictions like lactose intolerant and seafood allergies.

I had the set menu which is made of 4 courses, and my other half only ordered the main so we shared the first two courses. The lobster soup was absolutely delicious, and so was the lamb. Dessert made of a warm chocolate cake and liquorice ice cream was just as amazing....to top it off the waiters were all really welcoming, accommodating with our request to move tables and just generally very nice.

The service from the waiters was one of the warmest we have experienced... the food was good - we opted for the 4 course set menu - I was a little disappointed in the soup - one scallop and one langoustine... however it tasted amazing! I also wanted to opt out of liquorice ice cream but the waiter insisted I try it separate to my desert and I have to say it was delicious. So I would recommend this restaurant... the food was well presented and tasted great!

This pleasant place is close to where we were staying at the Hotel Marina and we decided to return based on our good experience there on a previous trip to Reykjavik. Our waiter, the son of the owner, was very attentive and made helpful suggestions. Two of us had the sampler menu, I had the lamb curry, and the other member of our party had fish stew. All was very good, we left happy!

This was my 'last night in Reykjavik treat' so decided to splash out a little, and was so glad that I did! The quality of the food was superb! It was incredibly fresh and very well prepared. The lobster was amazing and the chef even bought it out to me himself! The staff were wonderful; ever so polite and very helpful. I was a solo diner, but there were groups and couples about and they were all enjoying themselves too. The restaurant is a bit small, so booking is a must and be prepared for an above average cost. Iceland is a bit pricey so if you are prepared to pay more, then you're not surprised. I would definitely go back here and would treat myself to another 3 course meal - it really was delicious!

Online confirmation did not match up with restaurant so they were not expecting us. Gave us a carafe of wine during our reasonably short wait for staff to prepare a table. Cod was wonderfully prepared, flaky but moist throughout and beautifully spiced. Salmon & scallops got favorable but not rave reviews from spouse. Desserts: chocolate lava cake & Brioch with berries + toffee ice cream were both great with the latter being declared the winner. Neither of us became a fan of the licorice ice cream but is just personal taste. Chef and his matre di wife were most amiable and charming. Views of the harbor throughout the restaurant. Not inexpensive but certainly within range of prices for this Cali fare in Iceland. Would go back again if return to this beautiful country.

I'm a local and have been quite often to Höfnin. I've just ALWAYS had very good food. Ingredients are top quality and the chef's sure know what to do with them. It's a small family restaurant and the owners are often there and give you good service with a smile on their faces. Top notch and highly recommended.

Lovely restaurant by the harbour. Nice and homely inside with photos of the the fishing industry. We had the shellfish soup and tomato with coconut. They have a little soup pouring ceremony. The plates are served with the solid ingredients, vegetables or fish, then the soup is poured in from a little jug. It was delicious. We shared the lobster with cat fish cheeks which I’d never had before and a mushroom risotto. It was all great. Didn’t have room for the pudding. I’ll have to go back .

So booked this restaurant for my partners birthday meal, it was a Monday night. Chose this restaurant as it was a special occasion and it looked into the harbour. We did get a window seat, place was fairly quiet, as with all in Reykjavik, it was pricey but expected. The waiter was not busy bit also very matter of fact, not much encouragement with the menu or the wine list, he played on his phone whilst we poured our own wine and was not very attentive, thankfully about half way through a your lady appeared and she was much more helpful/attentive. Tje food was fine but ambiance and service was a little underwhelming especially in view of the prices. We have eaten better for less in Reykjavik but you live and learn as they say!! Other places very nearby would be my choice should we return .

We had dinner here twice whilst in Iceland - reasonably priced as the food is excellent compared to some other restaurants of a similar price. Food was delicious and service faultless. Staff were attentive and welcoming. Lovely views of the Marina the restaurant is small but warm and cosy. We will certainly recommend to others and come back if we return to Reykjavik in the future.

We had an amazing dinner at Hofnin, it was our first trip to Iceland and came across this restaurant whilst exploring. It has great views over the harbour with mountains in the background, the staff were very friendly and the food was incredible. I highly recommend the creamy fish stew, it was so delicious!

We enjoyed a FABULOUS and memorable birthday dinner here, which lived up to all our expectations We started with the delicious lobster soup, and I followed it with lobster tails and catfish cheeks, while my husband chose a haddock dish. Everything was beautifully presented and SO fresh and tasty. Service is courteous and quite formal. This is the perfect restaurant for a special occasion. Loved it

My husband and I ate at this restaurant twice during our four day stay in Reykjavik, such was the quality of the food. On both occasions we were attracted by the 'catch of the day' - flounder on the first night and char on the second. The food was beautifully presented with delicious flavours. The waiters were charming and helpful. On the second night, there were two large parties in, but we were still served quickly and the quality of the food did not suffer in any way.
