Vegan options are needed to be reconfigured

Although being fully booked, we managed to get a table by calling in advance. The place is spacious and wonderful, with a magnificent view from the huge windows. The food was delicious and beautiful. Interesting ingredients are mixed together in good-sized portions. While being served, the waiter will tell you about the ingredients on your plate (and it wouldn't feel snobby!). However, there were only two veganizable options on the menu and both of them were sponsored by Oatly. The risotto got extremely sour in the end and it was almost impossible to finish it. I was not sure if the chef had actually ever tasted it. Reconsideration needed. On the other hand, non-vegan dishes were extremely delicious and thought thoroughly.

Best in town

Best in town, no doubt about that. No matter if you wine and dine your wife or clients, you should bring her here. We went with a group of friends and really enjoyed ourselves. Only thing that got a remark was the espresso afterwards, other than that really good.

Fantastic resturant on the Vasa waterfront

Fantasticly decorated resturant with a view towards the waterfront and sunset on one side and the open kitchen on the other. Food was super delicious, starter courses explained by one pf the chefs during the 4 course menu (which really was 5 courses) Starters was amazing, all 4 of them on the evning menu is worth a try. The main grilled pork was melting in our moiths and beautifully composed with the potato/gqrlic puré, beetroot and gravy. Only 2 reasons for not giving this full points is. 1. that way to many of the staff were coming over asking if it was good and ok. 1 person preferbly our waiter or the floor manager would have been enough. 2. The dessert did not feel as though through as the rest of the dishes/menu, we got the raspberry/beetroot sorbet but it was unfortunately a jot boring

A Gem Beside the Seaside

Had a lunch at Hejm during Vaasa EnergyWeek as the restaurant was recommended to me by my colleagues who live in Vaasa. The moderately priced lunch was on a gourmet level and it was served to tables. The service was friendly and attentive. The environment and the general ambience were also very pleasant. Now not only my colleagues in Vaasa recommend Hejm but myself as well.

You wait, and wait and wait

So, the positive first: very nice view by the waterfront. Nice ambience, interesting meny with classic and local dishes. I think the waiters do their best. Negative: you wait and wait and wait and they ignore you. I was sitting outside , I order, then get wine. When the wine is finished, it takes a long time for them to serve the starter, I order another glass, the starter comes and the wine comes when the starter is done. Get the picture? It happens with main course as well. The starter was very good. Main course entrecote was soaked in garlic butter and sauce so you could hardly taste the meat. Then after main course I ask for an espresso and digestif. Takes ages, when it comes digestif is warm and coffee cold. Have to ask for another espresso. Would not recommend this place.

A very good experience from start to finish: 1. Friendly welcome, offer of different time options as we didn't have a reservation 2. Very attentive, courteous and helpful staff - excellent service 3. Excellent food - luckily we opted for the 4-course menu, which was simply great with very interesting creations 4. Interesting insight into the open, extremely professional kitchen 5. Absolutely fair price/performance ratio We enjoyed the evening in a beautiful location with a pleasant atmosphere and great service - and the starter with buttermilk sauce and artichoke sorbet will stay in our memories for a long time.

We drived the whole day from Lapland in order to eat in this restaurant, a little bit speeding..called several times,no answering, website didn’t take any inquiries. Arrived and happy but they said they are fully booked. Some free tables and in terrasse free tables. They said rain is coming. It had already ended, half cloudy now. So restaurant can do what ever they like but We felt very unhappy because they had no empathy nor understanding. So no food on Sunday. Still long way to drive..without any food.

A bit overrated

I would say this restaurant is hip style over substance. Vaasa has made an attempt at a modern, 21st century eatery here with mixed results. The setting on the water is stunning and the decor is spot-on. The service is sweet and down-to-earth. The food? It’s OK. The portions were quite small and tasty but somehow did not make me yearn to return. Not sure why. Something did not quite work. I did like the bread though.

Interesting menu

Interesting, locally inspired menu. All the details were sadly not in place, The delicate pike roe was served with pickles onion, which in my opinion was way too strong. The reindeer was very delicious, but for reason the texture of the carrot didn’t match the rest of the ingredients on the plate. Anyhow, I enjoyed the food and place is very cosy.

Divine lunch with friends

What a lovely place! The building is amazing, all the sunlight in that you can get in the sunniest place in Finland. Service was warm and professional even tho the staff was very busy on an extremely busy lunch time. The lunch menu was divine, the thought of the fresh bread waters my mouth even now thinking about it. Your visit to Vaasa is missing a great experience if you skip Hejm.

Top restaurant that you must not miss

Wonderful food and great service. Worth every single cent, also significantly lower price level than other almost equally fine restaurants. It is worth visiting Vasa just to visit this restaurant.

Bad Hygiene

I recently dined at Hejm and was extremely disappointed with my experience. While the service was decent, the food quality left much to be desired. I found a piece of hair in my dish, which was unacceptable and unappetizing. Additionally, one of the potatoes served was spoiled, making the meal even more unpleasant. This level of hygiene and food quality is simply unacceptable. I hope the management addresses these issues promptly. I look forward to hearing from the management as promptly as possible concerning this matter.

Plan a visit - you’ll be glad you did

The building and decor, the welcome and service and above all the food. Really unusual combinations and unique dishes - I’ve never had smoked mashed potatoes but I hope I will again. It’s popular and you’ll probably need to book. Plan a visit here if you’re in or near Vaasa

Successful dinner by the beach!

The butter-fried perch fillets tasted excellent with a German pinot noir. Nice service who recommended yogurt ice cream for dessert. Found an excellent Tawny port that sat like a charm!

Reason to travel

Hejm does not have a Michelin star (yet), but it is worth the effort of waiting for a reservation and travelling from further away. The food, service and view are memorable. Our four-course meal with wine pairing was full of pleasant taste surprises. Our dietary requests were met with a smile and the service overall was professional and smooth. You should eat here!
