During our recent visit to Turku our friend suggested to have a meal at Rioni and we enjoyed it throughly. The soups were delicious, flavorful and very large portions and came along with bread and sides. Would recommend ordering khachapuri for kids as it was a hit with my daughter. The staff was friendly and location in city center is perfect too. Would recommend place to anyone looking for a delicious, wholesome meal which was reasonable priced when in Turku city center.

Really nice and cozy new restaurant in Turku. This went straight to my top3! Food was tasty, flavorful and rich. Service was friendly, informative and waiters checked on us often which made me feel welcome. I was also very pleasantly surprised by the quality of Georgian white wines.

I highly recommend restaurant Rioni. Food is fantastic! And also the service. Waiters take time to tell about the Georgian food and food culture. The presentation tray encourages you to share food. Flavours are authentic and enjoyable. If you are not familiar with Georgian food, I recommend you to start your journey from this restaurant.

Excellent introduction to Georgian food and climpse of the whole culture. We wanted to taste little bit of everything and got really good recommendations from our lovely waitress who made the evening to more than just a dinner with her stories. All the food was really tasty with just a right amount of spiciness accompanied with Georgian beer, wine and brandy. Really good value for money and warm recommendations!

We chose this restaurant since it has been appraised quite a bit recently. Went there for dinner on an ordinary weekday, the restaurant was less than half full. Since novice to Georgian cuisine, we chose traditional, casual dishes to try them out. The meals came quickly but looked something else than expected. Thinking so little we know about Georgian food, we started taking bites After a while, the waitress came back telling we had wrong dishes. Chef was to blame, she said... no apologies. We could wait and get what we initially ordered, or keep these, even though ”they were more expensive”. Having started the dishes we felt like we may just go with these, for this time. I asked the waitress, what dishes we got. She did not bother to get the menu, just said, that is beef and that is pork. So much for the charm. The beef turned out to be lamb, and the pork, big portion though, was salty and more dry than soft. The vegetables were big chunks of pale tomatoes and cucumber. Still season for domestic vegetables with plenty more taste in them... The bread served on the side was like several days old. When getting the check, I asked again the waitress to show us the meals we had. No interest to bring the menu this time either. We had very regular, a bit overcooked home food that could have been acceptable In another price category and with reasonable service. Based on this experience it is very hard to tell what the good reputation of this places stands on.

We had afternoon meal in Rioni. We had table reservation although on Monday afternoon restaurant wasn’t full. We took waiters recommendations and picked dumplings, Georgian bread, pork and saucage dishes to share. That way you could taste more different flavors. All foods were really good and service was really friendly and professionnal. Also our 9 years old daughter loved all food. Portions are quite big, so it is good to check right amount of dishes to order for your group if you want share. I warmly recommend Rioni!

With some hesitation we arrived on Thursday night in February to this place because of good reviews. And what a feast it was. The lovely young Estonian lady greeted as friendly though in English. We had no problem with that but I can understand that some have an issue with that. She gave us thorough coverage on Georgian kitchen and the menu recommendations which we happily followed. When we got the food to the table we were astonished with the abundance of food. But in the end the four of us were quite easily managing the food since it was mainly vegetables, some pickled and some fresh. Pelmenis (the Georgian pasta) was the least to my taste buds but knowing that they are not so spicy in general I was pleased even with them. Price level compared to quality I see definitely worth a visit. Service, being given backgrounds by our lovely server was family run which I see a plus. I hope should you pay a visit to this establishment your experience is up to mine.

Absolutely amazing. Second time visiting. Me and my wife came for a dinner. We had already tried the famous cheesebread before. And this time we tried a different version of it. (With egg in the middle) we took some starters and mains. We told our waiter that it is our second time, and he showed us other foods we didn’t try and recommend he’s favorites as well. It was truly friendly service, he was open to talk about the culture and answer all of our questions. We were so full that we coudnt try the desserts this time either. I recommend to come to Rioni with very empty stomach. Was very fun experience yet again.

We went to Rioni because it was so highly rated and ranked and it was a good decision. The ambience was cozy, waiters were super helpful and patient in answering queries for vegetarian food and the food itself was sumptuous and I thought the price was fair as well. Definitely recommend.

We visited the place with two families (many children). The reception and service by a Georgian waiter was very helpful and professional. I strongly recommend to follow the waiter's advice - everything he recommended was excellent- I would dare to say the best Georgian food I have had for a long time. The things we chose ourselves were OK too, but not that good. If in doubt, focus on the starters - the mixed cold starters, hachapuries, and hinkalis were all superb. The interior does not look like a Georgian restaurant at all, but dont let that disturb your sense of tastes.

Since I liked the place - and Georgian food in general - I went twice in a row to the 'Rioni', named after Western Georgia's largest river and apparently a chain in Finland with branches also in Helsinki, Espoo and Tampere. The Finnish waitress asked me on the first evening, if I knew about Georgian food, and when I said, that I had been twice to Georgia, she exclaimed: 'Oh, I envy you!' Since I felt like a glass of white wine before dinner, I asked for a Tsinandali, but they didn't have it at the moment, as the young waitress told me, only as of tomorrow again (she was right as I found out the next day). I didn't know the other white wine on offer, a 'Krakhuna', so the waitress, who was not only friendly, but also professional, gave me the option to try it first. Since I didn't like it, I went for a Rosé Saperavi instead, which was okay. As starter I had on the first evening 'Nigvziani Badrijani', eggplant rolls with walnuts, here topped by pomegranate seeds, and on second evening 'Pkhali', three balls in the colours red, green and yellow, made from pastes with either beetroots, spinach or beans. Both are two of my favourite Georgian dishes and I enjoyed them. Very typical were also my main courses, both to be eaten by hand in a special way, as I had found out, when travelling in Georgia: Khinkali and Adjaruli Khachapuri. Both excellent and filling, so there was no room for a Zgapari dessert, a layered honey cake. Instead I went for an espresso with once a Chacha, a Georgian grappa, and once a Sarajishvili VS brandy. A bit funny was the fact, that what I had twice came with a different price on the two evenings. The glass of Mukuzani 16cl (red wine) cost 12 EUR the first time and 13 EUR the second time. The Espresso was once EUR 3.80, then just EUR 3. Maybe this depends on the mood of whoever makes the bill.

I went to Rioni on a Friday evening with my partner, having booked in advance through internet. We were first seated on a table near the outdoor, but promptly moved to a better and calmer table when one was freed. The distancing between tables was long enough, although at other tables people were sitting next to each other like the corona never existed. The waiters didn't wear masks. No-one did. We ordered Georgian starter salads, which were big enough to make one full, but as we expected more delicacies, we shared a super tasty khatchapouri and then had both our main courses (mine was beef, hers chicken in Georgian tomato sauce), both large and very good. Even the desserts were huge: the ice cream portion would have been enough for three. We had a good Georgian red wine for the food, and a Georgian brandy as a digestive - the former was very nice, the latter somewhat arid. The service was very friendly and attentive. I can recommend this restaurant. The only negative side was our own fault: we just had too much food. The portions are way too large, and we overate quite badly, which made us suffer from our own stupidity for a couple of days. So, although this is a good restaurant, be aware that you probably can't have a bite on everything that's on offer.

Visited Rioni, Turku, with my wife on Saturday evening. The place was full throughout the evening, which must say something about the food/service and also should remind you to make a reservation. We took the supra for two, just to make the selection process easy. It was both delicious and plenty. The staff was friendly and easy going, and they offered us some free drinks as it took a bit more time for our mains to arrive. This gesture was much appreciated although it was actually nice to have a short pause after the starters. All in all, a positive suprise and would highly recommend.

We went to eat with colleagues. There was cheese bread, quail, vegetarian food, etc. Absolutely absurd disappointment !! My vegetarian food didn't taste anything. Nothing and it was ice cold after all. The cheese bread contained a great deal of garlic but it still tasted like something other than cardboard. Dishes REALLY SMALL, service in English only, Cold food and hunger left for everyone There was not even salt in the food. Nice idea but no need to go again, money is just wasted.
