By the riverside in Turku, with spectacular views of the cathedral, you find Gustavo, our restaurant that offers Mediterranean specialties with a Scandinavian twist. We are open from Tuesday through Sunday for dinner, but you are also welcome to drop by for a pizza, casual snack, or aperitivo! We highly recommend that you make a reservation in advance, but we always keep a few tables open for walk-ins!

Pinchos

Dined in Gustavo with friends on a Friday night . Place seems to be popular so booked a table a few days in advance . The waitress was eager to serve and asked us to order twice before even we all were seated . Looks like pinchos is the new way to overcharge for tiny amount of food . Also seems like it’s pretty unclear what pinchos are as some of the dishes we were served were just a small amount of food on a plate . I ordered 5 different portions as the waitress recommended it would be a good amount . The bill was then over 40 euros per head plus wine . Not worth over 160 euros we paid for 2 persons dinner ....... Probably pizza would’ve been a better choice . Remains to be seen .... or not , as I don’t think I’ll be back .

Tasty food, average service

We had a business dinner here, because location near City Center, next to the river is nice, Menu full of mostly Italian and Spanish favourites, Food was good, I had started with Jamon Serrano and continued with tasty Roma style pizza. Considering their standards and location, it's understandable that prices are not the cheapest in town, but especially drinks were quite expensive, for example daily bubbles 15€(12cl) and Grappas mostly 13-16€(4cl). But one thing that bothered us a little, was their service. We had to ask bread to our table, drinks took awhile and because they have 2 different kitchens I guess(?), pizzas and other mains came in different time. So one was finishing his fish, while others were still waiting their food

Noisy at peak times but food and service very acceptable

Gustavo, located opposite Turku Cathedral is very popular among the local folk so reservations are recommended. We enjoyed a very pleasant evening in spite of the hard wall surfaces reflecting sound that was a little too loud for a quiet night out. The welcoming was friendly and the staff maybe a little over enthusiastic to take our order before we had time to open the menu, but Sonja, who subsequently served us admirably with good humour and a very good sense of timing more than made up for the initial feeling or urgency. The food was cooked and presented well and we both left feeling that we had eaten sufficient to last several days. The menu is not too extensive and is predominantly pizza based and similarly the desserts are limited in number, but overall I can recommend Gustavo as a very enjoyable and satisfying place to dine.

Staff not trained to serve, no fresh vegetables

I, A newly arrived customer was completely ignored, Nobody asked if I wanted somrthing to drink. Two waitresses eere standing behind the counter, doing nothing. Looking at the menu on the table I saw no fresh vegetables. I asked the staff and they confirmed: no fresh vegetables. This is a pricey restaurant specializing on Mediterranean dishes. Ilost my interest and walked out spying some ill-spelt Spanish phrases on the wall.

Dinner for two

Had dinner with my friend. We took appetizers which were really good and tasty. Especially olives were really nice, haven't had this fresh olives in Finland before. For the main we took pizzas. The crust was crunchy and chewy and they give you scissors to cut it. I found that quite weird, but pizza was good. The staff was very polite and helpful and they suggested wines to match the food. We definitely go again!

We went with Turku Food Walk card to start the evening with Gustavo's pinxos. Entering the restaurant, we were asked if we have a reservation. No, we don't. We got very blunt "we are fully booked", with the tone of voice that made us feel like fools, the message came through like "what are you doing here without booking?" No apology, no friendly invitation for the next time. Very rude. It was relatively early, not many tables had customers, I think they could have accommdated us for a quick starter if they were just willing to serve. We dont have to come back again.

The BEST PIZZA I had abroad

In this restaurant, I ate the best pizza outside of Italy and even better than more pizzeria in my country. I had the pulpo pizza, it was delicious, pulpo perfectly cooked and tender, crunchy potatoes and perfectly dressed with paprika and rosemary (it's like a reinterpretation of "pulpo alla gallega", the Spanish dish). The dough was crunchy and very good, and the option to choose Roman or Napoli style it is really added value. Also, the scissors to cut ✂️ the pizza is a good idea! 😅. Prices are not expensive considering the quality of a d service. Handcrafted italian beer is also very good. Wines are expensive as usual in Finland. I don't know about other dishes, but it seemed to me that the portions are not so satisfying. Anyway the pizza is fantastic!

Why have I walked past this place??

Second time visiting Gustavo, both times have been a success. The starters were excellent, on both occasions, however the star of the show was the lobster risotto with grilled tuna. Highly recommend to try it.

Positive surprice!

We pass this place twice - and when coming back we decided to have a dinner in there. Place was packed, but luckily someone had cancel his reservation and we got a table for two. Staff (waitress) was really kind and helpfull. We asked for recommendations and she propose to order pinchos for share —> we did so. We had 8 pinchos plus wine (Bottle 66€) - total bill was 155€ (plus tip) for two. All were very good… well, i’d say tuna was ”nothing to remember” - but really nothing to complain. We will definitely to go another time! Reaaaally delicious! ❤️

Good Italian restaurant

In a warm setting, this Italian restaurant offers good starters around €10 (we tried the grilled octopus, excellent) and dishes between €25 and €35. Grilled fish, pastas, meats, and good side dishes. Friendly and efficient service. Beautiful varied hams hung near the bar that you can order on the plate! A good address near the quays, view of the cathedral.

Delicious meal at an affordable price

For some reason I've always dismissed Gustavo as a potential place, when I've looked for a restaurant. Now that I've been there, I can't but wonder why on the earth. The place cosy and friendly, the food was truly delicious and it cost less than I expected. I might have given five points, but the food was a bit too salty, particularly the cod. I was also a bit disappointed, because the menu was not the same as in the web page in the previous night. I'm not complaining, though, everything we ate, was delicious.

Mediterraen food and wine heaven

Been in Gustavo many times and never has it let me down. On my last visit took my new workers there for business dinner and drinks. We were fortunate that the owner and head chef Markus was leaving home, but he suggested what to have for dinner and it didn't fail. Service has always been relaxed and wine suggestions everytime have met expectations. And more surprisingly the prices are affordable.

Everything perfect from the moment we walked in. Our elderly members of the family have hearing and mobility difficulties and having given us a cabinet for more privacy and quietness was just what we needed. Portions correct sizes and delicious. Well done, we will return.

Amazing!

I was told only great things about Restaurant Gustavo. However none of them was describing it as great as it actually was. Starting from reservation to be done, everything went great. You could feel that you truly are guest that is waited. Service was humble, kind and high class. No need for clueless waiting. We had pizzas with us and there were great ones. They were big enough and tasty, like really tasty! At the end with bill you got limoncello glass. That made you truly feel like being in Italy or so! As one spending a lot time in restaurants with my beloved ones, for sure Gustavo will be one to go, when ever I am in Turku again.

Great service and excellent food

A nice appetizer list with several portions to share. Good, authentic flavors. The main course was excellent, the lamb side roll was absolutely amazing and the spouse said the same about the risotto. Special mention for excellent service.
