We were a party of two for dinner and chose the full menu with pairing wines. We were hungry but it took them about 25 minutes to get us even the water to the table. And no bread or anything while we were waiting. The...first meals we got about 50 minutes after arriving at the table (timely as we had made a booking). Also, the service was correct but I would not say it was even polite. The food itself was nice, no complaints at all. The wines did not impress and the portions seemed very small in our glasses. Maybe we just had bad luck but would have expected more. And the food definitely would let you ask for a better overall experience.More

We had a family dinner with a toddler in the restaurant. Both the adults but also the toddler were very happy with the excellent service and delicious food! We will revisit the restaurant for sure!

We've been here twice after it moved downtown under a new management. The first time late in the fall was an excellent experience, which is why we chose it as the site of my birthday dinner this January. The kitchen's greetings, both before and after...the dinner, are tasty and add a nice touch to the occasion. For starters we had now (as last time) blinis with vendace roe. Very tasty, even if the blinis were slightly burned this time. We chose duck as the main course. It was disappointing; it came in two varieties, slice of duck fried in the traditional way, and a croquette. The meat was nothing special, and in my wife's portion it was tough. The croquette was better, albeit rather spicy, judging from the after taste. The pinot noir recommended for the duck was not to our taste. The dessert, coffee flavored creme brulee with amaretto sorbet, was wonderful. Service was friendly. Both times we were the first customers, this time even the only ones. Perhaps this caused the restaurant keeper to walk around for the first hour in his jeans and discuss (rather loudly) with various suppliers, friends, and this time even an electrician (as there was a glitch with electricity, the lights going on and off). Moreover, the voices from the kitchen are loud, and we could here them discussing, e.g., the beginning ice hockey season in NHL. I think I even heard a vulgarism -- I hope I misheard. Anyway, none of this contributed to an atmosphere that you would expect in a fine dining restaurant.More

Very plain, white and simplistic interior which we didn't mind. We had the 5 course tasting menu with matching wines. With the mind-boggingly high prices we were expecting a michelin star experience. Nope, didn't happen. The service was somewhat nonprofessional, with issues such as forgetting...our water etc. The food was executed well, a couple if hits and a few misses. The final touch was missing on all but one dish. The biggest issue I had was the monkfish. Now why on earth would you serve imported fish like monkfish, when we have a beautiful and exquisite variety of delicious local and domestic fish in Finland, such as arctic char, salmon, perch and dozens more. And above all - in my opinion - monkfish has always been possibly the worst fish ever that you can put on a plate. The texture and taste is just not pleasant in any way. Overall for these prices we expected a whole lot more.More

Good food, quite small portions. Tasting menu and little bit of wine, nearly 100e per person. In the middle of the city. Good service, do not come if you are in a hurry

The baguettes I bought before the train journey was not ordinary, but surpricingly spicy. The place has some tables to eat, but mostly people take the food to the train. I can recommend.

This was the second time I've been in Hella & Huone enjoying their tasting menu, and once again it was outstanding. Besides food, the restaurant offers welcoming athmosphere and I would like to recommend it to everyone who likes good food and wine.

The food is unique, innnovative and beautifully presented. The wines go so well with the food The service is half of the experience. We had three course lunch. First pumpkin soup, very deep and good flavors. Main course was braised lamb in tomato sauce. Lots of fine flavors. Dessert some kind of orange cake. Not my favorite, mainly because I not no fancy this kind of desserts. At...25EUR, I think this was a bargain. Definitely will go there again.More

We visited Hella & Huone as a part of our one-night trip to Tampere. My wife picked the place, so I didn’t have really any expectations. A visit to the website, and the seemingly high prices for a la carte dishes made me curious, and...also puzzled. I have visited many excellent restaurants throughout Europe. I am not exaggerating one bit when I say this was among the top 3 experiences, and perhaps the best experience in Finland among currently open restaurants. This place beats hands down Helsinki top restaurants such as Ask or Olo. We had the 6-course tasting menu with wine pairings. Every single course was outstanding. Delicious flavours and, especially towards the end with the main and the dessert, inventive and surprising. The cheeses were perhaps in comparison a bit dull, but nevertheless of high quality. Each dish was substantial in quantity, and not the typical one mouthfulls of many fine dining establishments. You do not leave hungry! But the real stars were the wines. They were first of all perfectly presented: informative, but not snobbish. Needless to say, they were of high quality, and worked excellent with the food they were paired with. Service was just right. Pleasant, informative, polite but not stiff. The atmosphere was warm and we felt welcome, something many top restaurants fail with. This isn’t a cheap restaurant. The 6-course tasting menu with the wine pairing, glass of champagne each to start with and coffee to finish totalled 284€ for two. Add tips. But I had no problem paying that for this experience. It was worth every euro. We overheard the 9-course menu being presented to another table, and we decided we have to come back for that. Not sure how we could fit 3 more dishes, though. Why Hella & Huone doesn’t have a star or even two in Guide Michelin is beyond my comprehension.More

The new owners and chef offer good quality food from carefully selected local ingredients. There are innovative combinations of tastes that manage, however, to respect the components. The wine pairings work well. The only problem with our summery surprise menu was the dessert that did...not quite fulfill our expectations. The service was effective, informative and witty.More
