This was my favourite to hang out, see music and have a drink in JKL. The best atmosphere and place to find a "pub" feel without people just wanting to get drunk. Seen some of the most interesting bands play and the selection of beers...is yummy! Without Vakiopaine, my time in Finland would of surely lacked something :) Kittos Vakiopaine!More
When entering you might imagine you are in Berlin or somewhere else than in Jyvaskyla, Finland. This small restaurant has a small theatre space downstairs and when there is a performance, you can bring your glass of wine or pint of beer there, too. There...is one corner for musicians and you can enjoy their performance quite next to them or from open upstairs.More
The locals often overlook the place, because of the artsy "leftie" reputation and prefer to take guests to more fancier but pretentious locations, but they're simply wrong. Ok, it might be a bit artsy and a bit leftie, but welcoming and unpretentious nevertheless. The tables...and chairs seem like they've been there forever and they're full of carvings. The clientele can be a mixture of middle-aged people (who've been there forever) and university students. The programme is versatile - you might encounter everything from open mic story telling to some local band playing. The drinks (beer, wine, cider and some simple cocktails) are nothing special, but the cost is slightly lower than elsewhere in downtown. When your hosts or friends want to go to some generic hellhole like Passion, resist and insist on trying Vakiopaine.More
A student pub/bar. Fun and eclectic decor and simple tables on two levels. A good place for a drink and occasionally features intimate concerts.
I had couple of drinks here with my colleaques. This is lovely place, very trendy. Full of nice persons to meet and have a chat.
I visited here for a few drinks with some friends and immediately loved the place. It reminds me of a few places back home with artwork all over the walls, and when we visited there were some weird totem pole type statues lining the windows....Its all a bit D.I.Y. and unfinished looking which adds to its charms, and it is seemingly filled with all of Jyvaskyla's arty crowd. The bar staff were very helpful in suggesting drinks for us, and they stocked beers that were brewed locally. As always the staff spoke very good English. Overall I got really good vibes from this place!More
Nice pub with interesting persons, you can even find meetings about politics or arts. It's a place where uncommon people goes and you get get quite much inspiration from it.
I've loved this place since after about fifteen years ago, the first time I walked in the door. I have spent here in countless memorable moments. The best thing about the place is its open-minded, unique and relaxed atmosphere. Sometimes, a cultural treasures. Place may...not be suitable cocky snob, but they, too, are welcome, like everyone else.More
This is a good place for punks, bohemians, activists and assorted oddities all alike. Vakiopaine is one of my absolute favourite bars, and I have fond menories of the place. Affordable prices, good atmosphere, a bit rough around the edges.
