I am from Texas but the pork cheek with grits at Penny’s was the best meal I have ever had and for only 10€. Service was friendly and attentive (which appears to be rare in Finland) and the atmosphere was lovely. Can not recommend enough,...absolutely amazing meal.More

Even thought it was quite busy late lunch, we got friendly service with a professional touch. The restaurant is small but cosy. We do not mind to be seated next to other customers, just focus on your friends and good food. Average Helsinki prices and...excellent Mimosa to start your day ;) Nice deco! Need to test the restaurant during the evening.More

They would need to make some changes for this to work. The restaurant has a nice look, respecting the vintage building. However, the space is uncomfortably cramped with tables. The brunch food was well-made and some of the dishes were very tasty. However, they were...not all thought-through. I enjoy re-Interpretations of classic dishes, but you need to know how to do it. It turned out the day's eggs benedict were with octopus, or with mushrooms&cauliflower - those were just odd options, and didn't work. The food was very pricey too, at eur18 for each brunch dish. That's quite a lot for a burger or pancakes or an egg dish. None of us ordered juice, as it was eur6 (!) a glass. Service was friendly. However, it was also very slow and disorganised. We waited a long time to get our orders in - the waitress came over only after we asked, after she had taken the orders of another group that arrived way after us. It took a long time to get our drinks, and the last coffee for our party of 5 arrived arrived 10 min after the first one. Worse still, the food also arrived at different intervals. We had all finished our coffees by the time any of the foods arrived, and the first ones had nearly finished their food by the time the last of us got our dishes - which was 1h 15min after we had arrived to the restaurant. That's a very, very long time to sit at a restaurant without any food at all (they could've e.g. offered bread since there was a major delay) - and especially since this was brunch, and none of us had really eaten earlier. This kind of tardiness does not appear to be uncommon there, as only after we asked after the remaining dishes, the waitress offered a half-hearted apology, and a vague explanation of them having to clean the frying pan since one of us was allergic to fish. That hardly explained why all dishes were late, and anyway - what kind of a restaurant only owns one frying pan?More

Penny promises you 2 hours dining time when booking a table (perfectly reasonable) - 1h into our reservation, when pondering about ordering another round of drinks or desert after barely finishing our only course (main dish that took a while to order) the waiter comes...in to say that the next party has arrived and is waiting at the door - you need to leave. No apologies, no explanations - just pay and get out. If you enjoy dining in a tiny overbooked restaurant with lousy staff and poor customer service - I can highly recommend Penny; if however, you enjoy good service go elsewhere!!! I will never go back to Penny and will share this experience widely with friends, colleagues and family. Worst restaurant experience in Helsinki!More

The place itself was nice and cozy but unfortunately the Menu is misleading. If you have never been there before then make sure you check their Menu in Facebook before ordering, or ask how much something costs. We ended up paying for pancakes 30€ because...of the miscommunication. In the menu on the restaurant wall it says Pancake for 5€ (The waiter asked if I want one or pile of- me being there first time thought okay, maybe you can choose it you want one big or many small ones) but I was wrong, unfortunately it meant 3pancakes x 5€ . And to pay that much for pancakes I would of expect something better and tastier.More

I have been here many times before and always been satisfied. Today I ordered the lamb racks and and it was so tough I couldn’t even cut it with a knife and I sent it back. The chef blamed it on being a bad cut!?...They recommend the chicken instead of the lamb but they sent it a risotto. As a replacement for the risotto the sent me a vegetarian dish! Ridiculous - I am not coming back!More

As an American, I did not initially realize that Restauranta Penny specializes in American food and drink. I asked for Finnish beer and then came the surprise. So I drank my farthest-from-home Sam Adams Boston Lager. I had the Reuben, which had a lot of...delicious corned beef. My wife had a Greek salad and veggie risotto that were equally good. Tony, the chef, takes pride in his work and personally delivers some of his creations. The other staff were friendly and helpful. The place was packed with people having a good time. Bravo Penny! 👏🏻More

We booked a table for Penny’s Sunday brunch. The restaurant is quite small and tables are right next to each other. The restaurant was also completely full and being so small, it creates a bit of rushed atmosphere. Penny has a very short menu, but...everything sounded delicious. We had fried chicken with potato skins and it tasted amazing. There was a rather long wait to get the food (about 40min), but we got our coffee and glasses of prosecco, so the wait wasn’t too bad. ;) I warmly recommend Penny for brunch, but remember to book a table.More

Reserve a table in advance, it is a small but very cozy restaurant. The food is excellent. Tables very close by, so it is not a place where you gossip.
