Great food, great service, great atmosphere

Very friendly and yet still professional service. Recommended wines were a perfect fit for the food. Food and wines were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere at the this place is very easygoing and fun. I could see that the staff was having fun while working. They had a constant smile on their faces and joking around with each other. No sense of hurry or stress even though the place was fully booked throughout the night, as it always is. The pricing is very reasonable, obviously not the cheapest dinner in the town, but it is really very reasonable compared to the high quality. You would easily pay a double price and not get as good food in some of the other fine-dining places in Helsinki. We usually like to go to a different restaurant every time when we want to enjoy a high-quality dinner, just to get a many new experiences as possible. But I think I will make an exception with this one, and return here many times in the future.

Second time here and same experience as the last time, perfect. This restaurant is so good, everything is great, the food, the relaxed atmosphere, the knowledge and friendliness of the staff, everything. When you add the fact that the pricing is very decent taking into consideration what you get you just can’t beat the package. The only downside is that it is very difficult to get a table, especially on Fridays. Reservations online open 30 days before, so make a note of that and be quick, the tables are usually gone within minutes.

Great food, service and ambiance

Can't argue with the great reviews ... had high expectations and was not disappointed. Really enjoyed the vibe (buzzy but not too noisy) and each course was beautifully prepared and plated and delicious. Service was warm and friendly but not intrusive. Be prepared to spend about 100 euro per person ... bit pricey, even for Helskinki ... but (except for the wine) you get what you pay for.

Perfect pasta, lovely vibe

This was our second time here, and again everything was perfect. The pasta with garlic and chili was the best one I’ve ever eaten, it was literally perfect. The lemon pie was also one of the best pies, and all the rest of the food made me super happy as well. I think the pricing is very good compared to the quality of both the food and the service. The owner seems very nice and I love the open kitchen and area in general, because you can follow the positive vibe of the staff in everything they do.

One of the best

We had a great time with my girlfriend. The service is best what I have experienced and all the foods in menu are delicious. Then you add great wines and you will have perfect dinner. Just amazing place and worth of every penny. You can trust the employees over there they know what they are doing and you will enjoy.

Book exactly one month in advance to get a table

Of course we had to see what the buzz was all about, so I booked this restaurant to treat a foodie friend of mine. Hard to say which one is the original, is it Bas Bas Bistro or Bas Bas Kulma. I booked a table to Kulma (which is not actually in the street corner as the name suggests). Tables can be booked only a month in advance and be quick about it! Despite the covid restrictions I don’t think this restaurant could fit any more people in this restaurant… Then the food: good food, but the menu idea needs tweaking since my friend got her sea bass and pork portion at the same time. You really cannot eat two mains at the same time if they’re fish and meat. For me this was not a problem since I ordered pork and carrots for mymain dishes. Also there could be wine recommendations for each dish to make life easier, especially since our waitress told us this was her first shift. Also had to remind the staff that we’d like our wine with the food and then again the glass of port ordered with the dessert. I thought that the food was too salty, especially my main dishes, but my friend thought that it was a bit salty but not too much. To be honest, I didn’t get why this restaurant is so popular.

Tasty food with great atmosphere

We really enjoyed our dinner. Even though the restaurant was fully packed they were able to serve the dishes in a good time. The concept is super with the open kitchen. If you have a table next to the kitchen you are basically able to see your dish in the making. They also have great wines to pair with the food. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Excellent food and service

The restaurant was fully booked due to Valentine's Day eve. We are not the easiest couple, because we have quite a list of nutritional limitations. But with excellent help from the waiter, we found suitable portions for menu. Food was delicious and the service was excellent. White wine from Czech Republic and French apple juice were recommended and we found both to be very tasty.

During our stay in Helsinki happily received an opportunity to have a dinner here. Grilled white asparagus and beef tartar italian style were extraordinary delicious starters. Home made pasta taglione coloured with basil was the same high quality. Reindeer sirloin with red wine sauce and roasted scallops finished our fireworks of flavours. What an evening!

I can't say why I like this place so much. It might be the space, or the big windows, or the cheerful happy staff, or the relaxed atmosphere. It might be the great starters, or the pasta course, or the "warm dishes," or it might be the wine list. All of these things could explain it, but there is something more.

hidden gem off beaten path - worth it

Make a reservation far in advance. This restaurant is on a side street, then up an alley (toward a parking garage), then turnaround and look for the door. casual dress, friendly service, big wine selection, decent menu, but not large. portion size decent, high quality fresh ingredients. We had fun time.

Have eaten here for ~ 10 times over the past years. Never an exceptional experience including a very modest wine list. The restaurant has a great chic reputation but the food today lacks what it used to be when this opened years back.

I visited here as After Work dinner with my colleague/friend, and it was very delicious menu. The waiter was so kind and polite; sensitive and proactive. Appetizer and wine recommendations were successful based on our menu selection. I really enjoyed this peaceful, living and popular place (it is not easy to reserve the table, so be there on time). My friend is gluten-free and also that is possible very easily.

One of the best in Helsinki

Excellent food paired with the best service and nicest people in town. Every course melts in your mouth. Wines per glass were nice, nothing spectacular since they do not offer pairings. Next time will go with a bottle. Can’t wait to visit again! Four stars because our table was not ready when we arrived for our seating and due to Covid restrictions we had to keep up the pace to eat and drink our fill quickly before they stopped serving/had to close up. This influenced the experience..

Absolutely amazing from start to finish

For years I have been trying to get a table here with friends but did not succeed. When I finally managed to do it everything was top notch. Helpful knowledgable staff with good wine recommendations to match the dishes. Their starter were divine. Their rhubarb risotto was just as it should be - adding acidity to the creaminess of the risotto. Catch of the day we exquisite. There was a hip urban upper class vibe to the place. Best suitable for friends. Getting a table requires some effort but pays off. Will definitely return.
