Restaurant Boathouse on the island of Liuskasaari has good, fresh and local food served with one of the greatest seaside views of the Helsinki archipelago. We visited on a rainy day so there wasn't too many others visiting, but be sure to make a reservation...if you consider a eating out on a weekend during the high peak hours. I recommend the restaurant for a romantic dinner or a family meal. An unforgettable experience.More
We had high hopes for this island jaunt as we were excited to showcase a typical Helsinki island restaurant to several foreign business guests. Our party of 14 arrived at 6pm and, to make a long story quite short, it was 8:15pm before we received...our main courses. During the more than two hours that we waited, we were served drinks, our starters, and two generous helpings of bread - they brought more when they realized we would be waiting forever. To add insult to injury, a party of 8 that arrived at 7pm received their meal well before us! Now, we had agreed on a simple menu beforehand (only two choices for starters and mains) but that clearly had no effect on the speed of the service. I overheard the head waiter telling another angrily complaining guest that they were not prepared for the number of guests that night, as so many people came without an advance reservation! This restaurant has recently changed its name from Boathouse to HSS Paviljong, and is no longer a part of the Royal group of restaurants. This may be the reason for the drop in service. The number of waitstaff was ok, it was the kitchen that was the bottleneck. To be fair, the restaurant will be compensating us i.e. we will not pay for the full cost of the meal, but that does not make up for the ruined evening. The food itself? Salmon starter was nice, perch main was sort of ok (what food can be worth a two-hour wait?), strawberry dessert was so-so. The main course had nice fish, but also squished new potatoes and chewy, bitter white asparagus.More
Service fast even if the restaurant was quote crowded. Waitress friendly but what does it help when the main course sirloin steak is that tough one needs ten minutes to chew a small piece (my teeths are OK). Pankakes tasted old, presume they were taken...from the freezer.More
We went as a team for a team social evening to celebrate the crayfish and get to know each other better. The food , pace of meal and overall atmosphere were excellent . We were blessed with a calm September evening so the sunset over...the sea was equally memorable. The exit via short boat ride and taxis called for landing worked perfectly.More
Location is just grate if its warm and not windy (July-August). Food is on the average level. Service is very polity but on the average level. This is the place where you should have crayfish party
Ate here with a group of about 12 people. After a short boat trip (2 mins) from the harbor, you arrive at this rocky island. The boat house has a bit classic interior, because of the pillars. Swedish style. Splendid view over the sea and...Helsinki. During the dinner, the sun went down (clear skies). Every couple of minutes a new view with vibrant colors. The food was ok, good ingredients. (Salmon starter and beef main). But nothing really special. The service is quite basic but friendly and correct. Would recommend this restaurant especially for the view, not particularly for the food.More
You can bring dogs inside, service is excellent, and food delicius! Place is most likely the best in Helsinki, with sea side terrace right down the shore.
We were almost cancel our reservation due to wait for the boat to take us to the island, the one we were suppose to take left ahead of time and the second was delayed - and it was not a warm evening. But that the...only thing we did not like. The young man who drove the boat was very nice :) The place was a surprise, the view outstanding, staff very service minded, food excellent, wine good and the restaurant itself in a yacht club-style casual. The outdoor terrace right at the waterfront was very inviting except that evening due to weather not so good option. We will return with more friends!More
HSS Boathouse is situated just a short (and charming) boat ride from the harbor, but feels like it would be much further away from the city. The house is in itself very summery-elegant and offers a great view to the wide-open sea. The food was...very good and perfectly designed for a summer restaurant. Last but not least, the personnel was very kind and helpful, ensuring that our evening went very well. The restaurant is often booked for weddings on Saturdays, so it can be good to check the opening hours and/or book a table in advance. Remember also to take a walk from the restaurant to Uunisaari/Ugnsholmen, great place for swimming and taking sun!More
We went their Lazy Sunday shrimp and ice cream buffee. Nice salads and huge bowls of shrimps (both smoked and plain) but no potatos or anything warm at all. Weird. Only for kids they had something warm. Nice selection of ice creams and toppings. Nice...location, nice tables (especally near the entrance to terrace) and fab view to the sea but....something was missing. It was ok and this was only for summer sundays. Now it's closed. Toilets downstairs, no idea if they have anything for disabled. This is an island and you get there only by ferry or with your own boat.More
During our visit last Saturday, the hot day made this place a green house. We asked twice for a jar of cold water and it never arrived (5 people working and the restaurant was almost empty). Also, once we saw the menu.. NO FISH AT...ALL and the dishes were over priced, e.g. a crab hot-dog 20 euros!. We did not stay and it is a shame that we did not believe the bad reviews, but it's true... do not bother going there, as you can find other places with excellent views.More
The location is great with nice sea views and only short boat ride from a jetty. That´s about it. There were just not enough waitresses. We had to get our menus by ourselves, wrong dishes were served, main course was served even though we hadn´t...finished appetizers, appetizer plates were never collected, we had to ask our wine several times before it was served and finally the bill was falsely calculated. Food is ok, but highly overpriced: Basic flank steak 29e, espresso 4,40e and poor-quality white wine from Chile 34e - and that´s the cheapest bottle! Mediocre riesling 58e. Go grab a beer, enjoy the views and eat somewhere else.More
The food and the views from this hotel are excellent. I had the meal as part of a large group but the seafood salads and the beef was excellent. The service was also great.
We'd made our booking from Australia months in advance and read mixed reports about service and food quality. We needn't have worried. This restaurant is on a small island in Helsinki and accessed by boat from the nearby jetty. The trip takes only a couple...of minutes but a coat and hat is recommended as the return journey can be cool. We had a window seat and the view and weather didn't disappoint. We found the service to be pleasant and welcoming. The menu doesn't offer a huge range of options but what did come to the table was of lovely quality and presentation. The wine list is a little more adventurous and after decisions were made about openers and mains, we settled back to enjoy a decent bottle or two of red wine and take in the surrounds. Seating was comfortable allowing some privacy and the building is large with a soft filtered light changing during the course of a meal in the evening. There was a nice flow to the staging of the meal and the timing was perfect. We got to know our waiters who were friendly, across their roles, and genuinely interested in us. After the meal I had a couple of different spirits and spent time outside as the light began to pale. Had an interesting chat with our American waiter waiting for the boat to take us back to the jetty. Prices are reasonable considering the quality of the fare, location, and wine list. Definitely nothing to fault. I hope to return soon perhaps in a different season.More
This place is a disaster! I have never walked out of a restaurant in my life, but when I did, two other tables followed. We were there for 45 minutes before they came by and asked if we wanted a drink---30 minutes later, they came...back and asked for our order---30 minutes thereafter, they said our food will be arriving in another 45 minutes!More
