The Lasipalatsi building was originally built in the 1930s to serve as a temporary bazaar. After years of glory and some years of degradation, Lasipalatsi underwent a complete renovation and reopened its doors last autumn. The architects restored the original funtionalist style of the building with pure white walls, large windows, interiors with warm colours and delighful little details. Neon lights on the wall outside have been characteristic of the building right from the beginning. Nowadays Lasipalatsi hosts a movie theatre, a library, a TV studio, a media centre, a restaurant and three cafés amongst others. The legendary Lasipalatsi restaurant is situated on the first floor of the Lasipalatsi

Extraordinary pearl of functionalism. The service was excellent. But do not bother to dine if you’re a vegetarian. The sole (!) veggie dish is a one(!) fried portobello with 3 slices of pumpkin and a spoonfull of puree. You pay 24 € for something that should be a starter for 8 €. Had to go straight home to eat afterwards as I was starving. A chef’s joke…?More

We had a gift card for a romantic dinner and we went for Lasipalatsi restaurant and that was a great choice! The food was excellent, the soup and reindeer rillettes were very tasty, the main course was delicious and dessert were as well very good...(I am not huge fan of baba but this one was very good and well balanced). In addition, the waiter was amazing, very helpful, giving good advices on which drinks would fit best with food chosen and gave very much attention to us (well the restaurant was pretty empty which is a pity because it's great place and great location). We had really great experience and we can only recommend this place if you want to experience quality Finnish food. Kiitos!More

We had a business lunch after whole morning meeting in Lasipalatsi. I do not know why, but service we got from waitress was not at all as we understand as good and professional service. This is not the first time in Lasipalatsi.

We loved the food: blini with vendace roe and smetana, reindeer (wouah, I didn't know reindeer meat can be that tasty) server with mashed potatoes and cloudberries... and a very interesting dessert combining avocado, with grilled white grapefruit (unusual and delightful). The place in itself...is worth a visit... it's like time stopped in the late 70s. Now the bad news: service is very very slow...you will wait a loooonnnngggg time to get your food. I cannot remember how long we waited for the starters and then in between the starters and the mains....and then the dessert.... That said, when you get your food, you'll forget about the wait, cause it is truly delicious. The floor staff is really not professional and don't really seem to care much about their customers. It feels like you should be thankful to them to be able to eat in this landmark restaurant. Sadly, I can only agree with remarks in other reviews (nearly total disrespect for their customers). Here's a story: one of us got coffee; apparently he ordered it when the plates were cleared away; when I asked the waitress if I could also get some, she seemed annoyed, but brought me coffee. Another friend then also asked for coffee...and the waitress got annoyed, walked away saying "oh no, I am not doing this" You are not doing what? here's a tip: when you have a large or a small group, you can clear away their plates... and then just make a round and ask who wants tea or coffee. Usually works quite ok and doesn't waste your time going back and forth. Simple, right? Honestly, we were a large group with a pre-ordered menu (we all got the same), so the delays are difficult to accept. Also, it felt like the staff was trying to get away not serving coffee. Pity, cause the place is very nice with a unique atmosphere and the food is superb.More

We were 13 persons who joined the lunch. I chose Mannerheim´s pike perch. It was as good as before. Many of us chose the same lunch.

Very slow service and almost total disregard towards clients. OK food but overall experience spoiled by lack of staff’s professionalism. Sad.

The place looks very boring from the outside. More posh inside, but appears like nothing has changed since the 1950'ies. The menu is a little more modern, or at least an attempt to it. -It appears to cater very much to an audience looking for...a dinner experience. I had the Elk shank, and it was OK, but nothing extraordinary. Staff was polite and professional, and spoke well English.More
