Not fancy, but value for money. Been here for 40 yrs or so, honestly hope not too many tourists will visit & ruin this place :-) A bit rough, but so is/was the neighborhood earlier.

Ok selection, but warm dishes were lukewarm at best. Decent salads. Delicious looking desserts which in reality were over sweet and mushy. Cream filled profiteroles were kept room temperature, which made the taste already a bit dubious.
I had dinner in the Restauranta Oiva and the onion steak was excellent. I also ordered some garlic potatoes; they were otherwise OK, but did not taste garlic. Staff was friendly and the house wine (white) was nice.
It is an bar / restaurant with great Helsinki spirit. Located outside the tourist centre it attracts local folks. We went their for brunch, which was excellent.
Good selection in warm dishes and salads. House made ice tea was good. Desserts were delicious. Bread and candy selection were poor, but croissants were very good. It was more lunch buffet than hotel breakfast. Little bit too expensive.
The place is quiet and friendly. The prices are very affordable, the foods are excellent and we even met with a Hungarian waiter! I only had a problem with the fried broccoli, it caused me stomach problems for 2 days.
We visited with our friends. Feeling a bit weary after New Years Eve celebrations the brunch @ Oiva suited us perfectly. The restaurant serves all you need for the perfect (morning after) brunch experience. Prebooking necessary on new years day.
I went to have brunch with a bunch of friends, and it was all in all a very good experience. The restaurant is located near public transportation, next to Hakaniemi market square. You can also walk from the city center here in about 20 minutes...or so. The interior of the place reminds and old rustic pub with brick wall details and a very cozy atmosphere. The staff members were very welcoming and friendly, and the food was tasty. I was surprised of the variety of the brunch buffet! For the price of 22,90 EUR (26,90 EUR with a glass of sparkling wine) you get a very good selection of what you would look for in a brunch: breads, croissants, Karelian pies with egg butter (if you're a foreigner in Finland, you MUST try these!) yogurt with berries, müsli, at least 4 kinds of salads (beetroot & goat cheese was my favorite, but you might also like their potato salad or artichoke pasta salad), cold cuts, veggies, cheese, gravlax, herring in different pickles, pea hummus (!) and lingonberry vinaigrette. That's some of the colds. For the warm dishes I must say kudos for the bacon! I absolutely hate chewy (= under cooked) bacon, for me it has to be crisp. In here they managed to have both in the same tray - bacon for every taste! I was looking for the salt sprinkler after I took some scrambled eggs on my plate, as I'm used to add salt whenever I eat scrambled eggs. Didn't find any salt, but didn't need it. Also, I did not ask for it either. :) Sausages were the only disappointment for me, they were a bit too grainy for my taste. Or my taste isn't up to par with good sausage. Anyway., they were some locally produced sausages, which is always a plus. Their vegetable patties were delicious! Do try the pea hummus with them! The dessert table was no exception, it was also almost overflowing of all kinds of dishes to satisfy your sweet tooth. There was three kinds of cakes; cream layer cake, plum cake and mulled wine cheese cake (okay, so this dessert table was obviously Christmas themed, but hey, it worked for me). They also have rocky road, but it was a bit too healthy to my taste, as it was made with vegan dark chocolate. ;) I think I heard someone say that their ice tea is their own brew. It was yummy too. There are some brunch places in Helsinki where the price doesn't include coffee or tea or juice, but this one had it all, and I'm very pleased about that.More
Had first time lunch in Oiva and liked especially the salad buffet. It isn’t just regular lettuce, tomato, cucumber and other single incredients. They had many selfmade salads and also marinated onions and carrots for example. Also the warm food was nice and it is...”home made” style. Will surely visit again.More
Loud weekends with Karaoke. Cheap tasty little portions with beer or wine. Karaoke ja vauhdikas meno viikonloppuisin. Halvat hyvät pikkuannokset, olutta, viiniä, teräviä ym.. Suosittelen!
Oiva is more 70 years old today. It has been in the current location since 1941. Karaoke from Wed to Sunday. When we visited the place there were really high quality singers, almost like a free concert. Their kitchen closes early, after that pretty much...chips and peanuts. You never know who you gonna meet it Oiva. Very casual atmosphere and drunken locals fortunately.More
This place is quite a typical restaurant in Kallio, with its retro decoration, and pretty loyal clientèle. We came here for a pretty decent and reasonably priced buffet lunch.
For about 10 € we had good homemade type food from a buffet, there was meat soup, a variety of sallad as well as hot dishes to choose from. The meat-califlower cratine was good as well was the steak.
Oiva has unique history of restaurant in helsinki. Daily buffet is awesome with lot of different dishes 2-3 warm meals soup and salad and bread table.
If you are in a hungry, go to Oiva! They offer a nice lunch for 10 euros which is tasty, but also quite heavy. Yes, you don't have to eat that much. The usually have better than average dessert. Atmosphere - well, look around carefully...;-). I have heard good reviews for their brunch and try to visit.More
