I visited this place with my mother. The interior of the restaurant looked a bit shabby and outdated but was still nice and cozy. I ordered vegan tacos and my mother a vegan salad, and it took a pretty long time (around 40 minutes) for the dishes to come to the table even though there weren't many people at the restaurant.
The food was very good but quite average and the prices were a bit too high for the quality. My soft tacos were soggy and my mother's salad greasy and wet. The flavours were very nice, though.
We both agreed that the service was pretty slow but friendly. I would have given this place more stars if the prices would have been lower, as now I didn't really think we got everything I had paid for. I would still recommend this place if you don't have too high expectations. The location is superb, by the way, just next to the Central Railway Station!

Happened to stumble on Maya by accident while looking for a place to eat. It’s located close to the central railway station.
Staff were great, very friendly and all who served us spoke good English.
They have a good selection of drinks a few more on tap beers would have been nice.
The food was great. Two of us shares the fajitas, one had a chicken dish and one had the tofu. All the food was delicious.
The restaurant was packed and the orders took some time to come out. Even with people waiting for tables we were never rushed. Prices were very reasonable. All in all we came away feeling good after an enjoyable evening.

We were craving for a mexican food and found this place. I wouldn't call it mexican, it is a bit of a strange mix of various south american food with some fusion added to it. We had various tapas which were all pretty good including yummy ceviche and salads. We also had their big tortilla stuffed with checken and another one with steak, both were very tasty. As a dessert we have gotten their delicious churros. Overall the food was great but the service was ok, somehow the waitresses were not very friendly and kept themselves very occupied... It seems quite unusual for Helsinki as in other places we visited people were really nice.

Visited the restaurant at 17 on Tuesday and it was not too busy. However we got our food only 45 minutes after we had ordered and at that point my food was cold. When telling this to the waitress she asked if I still want to eat it and get some discount or if I want a new one. As eating cold food in the restaurant is not something I want to do, I asked for a new portion. That arrived at the point when others had already finished eating. When I ordered the bill I explained this to waiter and he gave me 20% discount (3,50) from my food. I do not think this was a good way to manage this situation. No need to go there again. The food was quite OK , not especially delicious.

Have to say this was one of the biggest disappointments that I've had in recent history with restaurants. It was the "Eat with 10 euros" discount campaign that Helsinki has few times a year, so not the most premium of dishes, but the tortillas were super hard, they just cracked like tacos when you tried to eat them, full of cheese, barely any chicken and the taste was just cheese and more cheese and then some cheese.
They had some local craft beer, but sadly it was so old that I could not drink it and they did not have a replacement for it so I just left it there.
Other ate dessert too, which seemed to be the best part of their menu.
Service was ok.
(Seems that they have changed the menu since this visit, maybe it is better now, who knows)

Food was tasteless and overpriced. Tacos fillings was tasteless and portion was small. A waitress was very friendly, but we didn’t get what we ordered. Halloumi wasn’t grilled properly and salad with five small pieces of tomato and three slices of cucumber and lettuce is really not worth of 17,50€.
It was a huge disappoinment.

This was a great meal. The atmosphere was nice, the location was central and the food exquisite. We shared a nachos platter, which was homemade nachos not the ones out of a Doritos bag and then my husband had a vegetarian dish and I had a tortilla. All really well done and for Helsinki not too budget breaking.

VVisited the restaurant mid week. Was reasonably full even then- always a good sign. Crowd; mainly young but not noisy.
Service was excellent. and the food was very good. The portions are large and with my veggie fajita, i was offered as many tortillas and salsa as I wanted. I did not need more than that was served.
Can't fault the place at all. The staff are wonderful. They took their time to explain the menu and made great suggestions both with regards to the menu and drinks. The manager Joni is a real star.

First the positives:
Service was fast, smiling, and polite. Churros we had for dessert very very good.
But then:
Fajitas we had for mains were bland, salt had been totally forgotten, meat was too well done, and again was lacking spices.
And if you serve fajitas on an iron, make sure its properly hot. Otherwise its just weird.
Habanero sauce served on side and additional salt saved a lot.
The table had sticky spots, first knife I took for the jar at the table was covered in grease, and plastic plants on the window were covered in dust. A lot could be done in terms of cleaning the place.
I would have loved to like it, but now I just can't come up with a reason I would go there and spend 40+ euros for food I could easily make better myself.

As a person who has worked in customer service all my life. I am horrified with the service given by Maya staff. I have been in the UK and Europe for the past 6 weeks and eaten at many a fine establishment until I visited Maya at Helsinki. Kluuvi. This is my last night in Europe and I chose the wrong restaurant to end my trip. The food was lovely and delicious: A male worker came over and said the food orders would finish in 5 mins were we finished ordering. We said yes. Then as he was pouring a drink for someone we asked for a beer as I still had 2 drinks in the carafe OF sangria I was given when I had only asked for a glass. He said no. Then left for the night. As we were still eating our meal and other people were still getting their meals. We asked the staff for a beer for my partner politely as I still had 2 drinks left in my carafe of wine, and we still had not finished our meal. We were told no you can't. The next thing we knew we were being asked to pay for our meal and the drinks I still had before we were finished and being told we were rude. We were told they had a right to refuse us service. I was appalled as we were polite and only asked for a 2nd drink to accompliment the meal we were still eating. I must say I have never been treated with such disrespect in my 62years I have been eating out. As I work in customer service I understand how this can be trying with unruly customers. I also know that in no way were we unruly or abusive or even blunt . So I am flabbergasted that a company who pride themselves could treat customers this way. The staff member who lied to you was sniggering about this after you demanded the bill be paid before we were finished. Such a disappointment after a 6 week journey through the UK and Europe. Thanks for the disgusting memory.

This place has slipped our list for a long time. Mostly due to the fact that normally you are unable to make table reservations at week ends. This time we took a chance and were very impressed. We were met by very friendly staff although the restaurant was almost full. Drinks were ordered and also the food after a while. Latin American food at it's very best. We had Paella Cubana to share. Excellently spiced and well prepaired, consisting of rice, mussels, shrimps , giant shrimps and corizon sausages. The portion was well enough for the two of us. As a dessert we had Tarta Maya, which was an excellent chose. Never had curry in my dessert before.
During the whole dinner the service was excellent and the staff was very helpful.
This visit was a visit of joy. We'll certainly be back.
During "normal" times you should always make a booking.

Lovely cosy restaurant on the corner of one of the main squares in Helsinki. This South American themed restaurant has a great look and feel and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked and tasted so nice. Loved their salad and their sweet potato fries really hit the spot. So scrumptious. Loved the cosy inside area and the bar section. Has outside seating too. Perfect location being away from the main road but still near the square and its other restaurants and bars.

The best Mexican meal I’ve had in years. We hadn’t booked (& they were full as it was Saturday night) but we had a drink at the bar and a table soon became available. The food is exceptionally delicious and the portions are very generous. I had the goats cheese fajita which was awesome. I recommend the cocktails too!

I have been to this restaurant three times already, food has always been delicious, professional costumer service in general, decent prices, drinks are tasty and refreshing, atmosphere and decoration is on spot. My latest visit was on 8.8.2024, I had to leave a review after today for the great service from Mishal, very friendly and helpful worker who has great house suggestions for foods. The Cafe Maya she made was probably the best coffee based drink I’ve ever tasted in a restaurant so far. Thank you for the experience!
