After a few bad experiences at a few very much new in-restaurants, this was a happy welcoming! Nice table even for a single dinner, lovely not-in-a-hurry service, correct info of the dishes, everything exactly as it should be!! Not to wonder why this place has...survived all the bad and good years! One special thanks for the superb staff! You are the soul of every good place!!More

This old sailor restaurant has been our favorite. I have usually given it five stars. Now there were some issues. We were at lunchtime. It was very busy but there were only two waiters. There was a quite long wait for our drinks. On weekdays,...the restaurant serves an affordable lunch. There are four options to choose from. The sausage sauce was quite watery in its consistency. If I remember right, I have eaten better sausage sauce at my school time. Mashed potatoes were tastier here. It was not made of powder.More

This old sailor restaurant has been our favorite for years. It made no exception also this time. On weekdays 10:30-14:00, a very affordable lunch is served for 10,70. It includes soup, salad, main course, and coffee. On Thursdays, you will even get crepes for the...same price. We were still quite full from our hotel breakfast and didn't order lunch but just one dish from the ordinary a la carte menu. The food was tasty and the service was very friendly.More

Friendly staff, cozy athosphere and lovely food. A quiet Thursday dinner with family, no other guests near us. The french fries were crunchy, liver and meatballs delicious. Salve pannu was huge and tasty. The waitress recommend the pancakes as dessert but were too full after...the main dishes, but will try another time. Maukkaat salven pannu, maksa sekä lihapullat. Rapeat ranskalaiset ja raikas alkusalaatti.More

I enjoyed an Excellent meal with friend. We had amazing service from Tupu who was very welcoming and friendly. The reindeer and liver dishes were fantastic. It was fairly quiet given the circumstances. Great location on the water front

VISITED with a friend for a nice lunch. Typical Finnish food, greasy and baked in butter. Nice personal and homely atmosphere.

I have visited Salve twice. First time I ordered a minute steak with fries. It was literally just a steak and fries and seasoned butter. No veggies, no dip sauce or anything. I decided to give Salve a second try, I ordered a seafood hash....It included roasted potato (some of them were a bit raw), tuna, shrimps, salmon and an egg yolk. The tuna & shrimps seemed like regular canned tuna and shrimps from the freezer from your local supermarket. The dishes were nothing special. For the price paid, I was expecting a little bit more effort put on the food. Both of the two dishes were like from a gas station or school cafeteria. However, my companion ate pike perch, which he liked. The atmosphere is also nothing special and the staff is quite friendly. Overall, the restaurant does not have a very good price-quality ratio. I wouldn't recommend, unless you want to eat pike perch with mashed potatoes, it was good.More

This legendary restaurant has been our favorite restaurant in Helsinki. Last time was a small dip down but this time was again the usual Salve. Delicious big portions and friendly service.

The service was lovely. We appreciated the salad bar as well. We really wanted to try local cuisine so (despite not being big seafood fans) we ordered the herring, salmon soup and pepper steak. My husband loved his steak. The salmon soup was delicious -...it was unexpectedly light and filling. Unfortunately we didn't like herring but we know that's due to our tastebuds. Everyone at other tables really enjoyed their herring. So if you aren't seafood fans - avoid the herring (but definitely try the salmon soup!!).More

We ordered two salads for the main course, and both were absolutely delicious. The service was extra friendly and fast. I recommend.

Hi, I can assure you that they will speak better English than you! :-) you have to look very hard in Helsinki to find anyone who does not speak at least good English. Regards, Jonathan
