A very attractive restaurant, quite a way from the city centre but close to some large hotels. The entrecote steaks that we had were full of fat & gristle, and although very expensive, were far from worth it. The staff speak excellent English & are...very pleasant however.More

Had a dinner for 17 ppl, followed by an afterparty. The private cellar was perfect for The occasion. Food was really good and service nice. Also, good communication with manager-i was able to set up everything via e-mails.

Carelia is well known classic with a good reputation for good food. One would expect that on weekday lunch time there is quite a rush. Strange enough we were the only customers. We had very smooth and friendly service - no wonder! The a la...carte menu is rather short, only about half a dozen dishes for each: starters, main course and sweets. The Carelia Tartar was fabulous! One of us was very happy with his asparagus soup and everybody loved the white fish. The interior - a previous old pharmacy - is interesting but it is no place for secret meetings because audibility in the main room is quite effective. There are though some separate smaller rooms.More

Carelia is located in what used to be a pharmacy for decades and some wooden interiors are still visible, thus the place has its own feeling. The brasserie-style food works pretty well and the combinations can sound strange at first, but taste excellent when you...try them. Wine list is respectable for a Finnish restaurant. Service can be slow, even if there are not many customers.More

Visited after Opera, food was very well cooked, portions bigger than we expected, but still reasonable. Good wines also. Price on the high side, but in line with Helsinki restaurants of the same level. Very nice that it is open until later after the Opera...ends, so it is perfect for late dinner after a night in the Opera. Recommended!More

Always worth a visit. Very beautiful and iconic. Food always good, no surprises to bad or good. Service extremely unassuming and stingy, but not specially polite. Interior one of the most beautiful in Helsinki.

We had some late evening dinner after the concert. Great location, just a few minutes walk from many event location in Helsinki downtown. After a warm welcome we ware enjoying good seafood with excellent wine. Recommended!

First night in Helsinki- and met up with family members here. A friendly restaurant with cheerful obliging service. The steak was fantastic. Chargrilled perfectly on the outside, and medium rare within. Generous portions. The mussel starter was also excellent. A good first night dining experience....Would recommend.More

I don't often give five star reviews for restaurants, especially Brasseries, however Carelia warrants the score. The menu is not overly long but the food is perfectly prepared and some of the best we've had in the city. We both had the Steak Frites, which...is usually a good test of whether a Brasserie is great or just so-so. In Carelia's case, it was probably the best we've had; perfectly cooked with a slight char on the outside, excellently seasoned and most importanty, tender inside and well rested. Service is great and the location perfect for the opera or ballet which is just across the road.More

What a lovely restaurant! Staff very attentive with a simple yet satisfying menu. First experience of Steak tartar and it was so flavoursome, highly recommend you try. Next I had moules which were big and plentiful and again the broth was very tasty.

This place is very close to the Opera l, easily accessible by tram. The food was excellent , beautifully presented . Staff are friendly and efficient . This is not a cheap place to dine , but few places in Helsinki are . A very...pleasant place for an enjoyable dinner with friends .More
