Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great athmosphere near the Opera House. Great service and a great place. The food is very depented of the menu list. I ate 5 Star lobster there once but havent been able to have it again. The restaraunt is famous of its tartar. The tartar...is decent a la 3,5 Star tartar. It is cut right but it isnt from a 5 Star meat. I recommen this place after the Opera!More

Food was relatively good ( however, the portions were quite small). That said, the issues were more on the waiting side - waitresses not properly qualified and "indifferent" attitude. Additionally, wine list is badly outdated, many wines were "sold out" and no real knowledge of...the wines when asked.More

One one the few classic restaurants open till late Saturday night ( 11:00 p.m!) in Helsinki, it has never failed. This time we chose the seafood menu, three ( a bit overpriced ) oysters for me, and a Gorgonzola salad for her, followed by mussels...á la marinière and another with Gorgonzola and cream, both excellent, accompanied with fries with Dijon mayo. A sparkling brut from Loire was a nice match. A shared blood orange Pavlova and Irish coffees completed a beautiful experience! Next time I'll try the Pavlova with Auslese wine.More

The best! The food was so tasty! The guy was so nice with us. Also the girls (7 years old) had a good time. One of the best restaurants!

This is a traditional restaurant in beautiful rooms of an old pharmacy. I had zucchini soup, arctic char and creme brulee. Sounds traditional, even boring? But everything was really good, with a little (but not too much "twist". Excellent service. A fantastic winelist with more...than 500 items, and a professional real sommelier. I recommend!More

Visited a few year ago, expected a pleasant meal. To my surprise the service was rude och the meat chewy. Only exception, the summelier, who was nice.

Carelia, with its absolute lovely setting (I remember when it still was a pharmacy), has always been a favourite of mine. The last visit was very disappointing, though. It is hard to put my finger on what exactly went wrong, but the slightly clumsy service,...the changing of people waiting on you, the time it takes for staff to see that you want something... the staff is not there for you. Mussels are in season, the moules mariniere were ok but not sensational. The meatlovers at the table got their steaks, also good but nothing special. What can I say? At Carelia you eat well but the love of running a restaurant is gone.More

The food was almost impeccable, despite a slightly overcooked medium steak and a thick bearnaise sauce. Delicious nonetheless. The staff was equally excellent, but unfortunately didn’t wear a face mask. In my view, that’s unacceptable during a pandemic, whether they’re vaccinated or not. This review...would otherwise be 5 stars.More

A very attractive restaurant, quite a way from the city centre but close to some large hotels. The entrecote steaks that we had were full of fat & gristle, and although very expensive, were far from worth it. The staff speak excellent English & are...very pleasant however.More

Had a dinner for 17 ppl, followed by an afterparty. The private cellar was perfect for The occasion. Food was really good and service nice. Also, good communication with manager-i was able to set up everything via e-mails.

Carelia is well known classic with a good reputation for good food. One would expect that on weekday lunch time there is quite a rush. Strange enough we were the only customers. We had very smooth and friendly service - no wonder! The a la...carte menu is rather short, only about half a dozen dishes for each: starters, main course and sweets. The Carelia Tartar was fabulous! One of us was very happy with his asparagus soup and everybody loved the white fish. The interior - a previous old pharmacy - is interesting but it is no place for secret meetings because audibility in the main room is quite effective. There are though some separate smaller rooms.More

Carelia is located in what used to be a pharmacy for decades and some wooden interiors are still visible, thus the place has its own feeling. The brasserie-style food works pretty well and the combinations can sound strange at first, but taste excellent when you...try them. Wine list is respectable for a Finnish restaurant. Service can be slow, even if there are not many customers.More

Visited after Opera, food was very well cooked, portions bigger than we expected, but still reasonable. Good wines also. Price on the high side, but in line with Helsinki restaurants of the same level. Very nice that it is open until later after the Opera...ends, so it is perfect for late dinner after a night in the Opera. Recommended!More
