We ate here recently and both had the bouillabaisse; extremely generous portion and extremely tasty! I was really too full for dessert, but saw spruce flavour ice-cream which was too tempting to miss. It tastes like Christmas trees smell, and was very delicious - not...overly sweet, either. The service was very friendly too - I would definitely recommend eating here.More

It seems they sell more meat than fish or seafood even though they seem to be a seafood restaurant. We had the seafood platter. The shrimps had a lot of bad tasting eggs attached to them. The oysters' appearance was cloudy and fatty and tasted...weird. The seafood all together were not fresh enough, I assume. Luckily no one got sick afterwards! The king prawns and salmon soup were definitely the best of the meal. The wine list was average but we did find good enough wine for our food. There was no chance to decant it though.More

Hi Pihlter! Thank you for your review. I apologize your expereince did not meet expectations. Our head chef's philosophy is to rather serve a delicious quality sardine than poor quality lobster. We are very strict with the quality of the food we serve and always...More

Food was excellent and good value. Only downside are that there are a lot of dogs (if allergic) and biggest beer only 0,4 👎

Enjoyed a wonderful dinner where we shared plates with my wife. Starters: snails and mussles were good but not great - a tad vland I would say. How did they manage to hide the taste so well? Mains: Schrimp bread was a delight. Plenty of...schrimps and the house mayo was excellent. Desert: waffles were again good, but not excellent. All in all deserves the 4 stars, but was hoping for a bit more taking into account the history and reputation of the place.More

I was here long ago and liked this restaurant. But now it seems very disappointing. The boulabaise was terrible and seafood platter is just popcorn shrimp on an attractive natural wood serving dish. The terrace and indoors are nice, and the staff is friendly, but...the food is decidedly below par.More

What a lovely and friendly staff! Of course the main reason for the visit was the food, especially as the grayfish season is currently on. Many restaurants in Helsinki require a reservation two days prior the visit in case you should desire the mentioned good,...but in Merimakasiini they offer them daily. Huge plus for people who do not usually spend too much time to choose where to eat some good food. Menu otherwise is very good and everyone in our party found a meal for them. Location is generally easily accessible (mind the ongoing construction work) and with a lovely weather, do enjoy the terrace with a view to the old and legendary Helsinki Shipyard area.More

We went for dinner and were greeted by a super friendly woman. My friend went with the mussels casserole and I with the salmon(main courses). We both enjoyed the natural flavours, but the portions are relatively small. Next time we’ll pick a starter and some...side dishes.More

I am fond of mussels - so to fulfill my wish, my wife took me to celebrate my non-even-number birthday to this close-by restaurant, Since Merimakasiini is a sea-food restaurant, my choise was Chef´s menu, which included besides mussels, also vendace and arctic char. The...vendace dish was a tasty combination of numerous components. My wife enjoyed an abundant, delicious carpaccio as a starter. Her plate was also covered with several different elements. The mussels were served in a tasty creamy white wine sauce, which was perhaps the best part of the dinner. We both had arctic char as our main dish. The fish were good and tasty. My only comment is that the decorative green sprigs on top of the fish did not look quite fresh. I had chocolate mousse as my dessert, which was a good combination. My wifes´ crepes was quite ordinary. All dishes had the same feature of numerous components, which made the dishes aesthetically interesting but which in some cases may overshadow the main raw-material. We arrived quite early - with only a handful of other customers present. So the service was efficient but with the service I would have wished for some explanation about the ingredients of the dishes - especially since they were composed of numerous raw-materiels, which were not so easy to recognize.More
