What a lovely and friendly staff! Of course the main reason for the visit was the food, especially as the grayfish season is currently on. Many restaurants in Helsinki require a reservation two days prior the visit in case you should desire the mentioned good, but in Merimakasiini they offer them daily. Huge plus for people who do not usually spend too much time to choose where to eat some good food. Menu otherwise is very good and everyone in our party found a meal for them. Location is generally easily accessible (mind the ongoing construction work) and with a lovely weather, do enjoy the terrace with a view to the old and legendary Helsinki Shipyard area.

Luxurious seafood in a relaxed setting

High quality seafood in a comfortable setting. The atmosphere is rather casual, but the food has a gourmet feel. I had a 4-course menu for 49 euro, which was well worth the price. The cod was cooked to perfection and the presentation of the food was very pleasing. The accompanying wine menu cost 35 euro and came in generous glasses, but the pairing with the food was not spot-on.

A little underwhelming

Me and my boyfriend went here for a romantic seafood dinner. The service was very nice, and the restaurant itself also looked good. We ordered the royal sea food platter to share, and the starters were very good. The main seafood platter was a bit dissapointing. The seafood itself didn't look very appetizing. The oysters almost looked scrambled, which I have never seen before. Shrimps were dry, and most of the cooked seafood tasted very overcooked and dry. Mussels were completely cold and chewy. Some of the shrimpes we didn't dare to eat because they looked green. We ate most of the seafood platter, and it was okay. But overall it was a dissapointing meal considering the price of 100€. Would maybe go back for the good service and the amazing fish-soup, but I would recommend to not order the seafood platter. I would also like to add that we did not bother to complain/inform the waiters about our issues, as it wasn't completely terrible, and we didn't want to make a big deal out of it. But judging by the rest of the reviews it doesn't seen like we are the only people with this experience.. :(

Disappointing

I was here long ago and liked this restaurant. But now it seems very disappointing. The boulabaise was terrible and seafood platter is just popcorn shrimp on an attractive natural wood serving dish. The terrace and indoors are nice, and the staff is friendly, but the food is decidedly below par.

We very much enjoyed this meal! Each dish was fresh and delicious. We had the set four course menu with the wine pairing included and it was well worth it. The staff was friendly and attentive, highly recommend.

Friendly staff and natural flavours

We went for dinner and were greeted by a super friendly woman. My friend went with the mussels casserole and I with the salmon(main courses). We both enjoyed the natural flavours, but the portions are relatively small. Next time we’ll pick a starter and some side dishes.

Best bouillabaisse I've tasted

We ate here recently and both had the bouillabaisse; extremely generous portion and extremely tasty! I was really too full for dessert, but saw spruce flavour ice-cream which was too tempting to miss. It tastes like Christmas trees smell, and was very delicious - not overly sweet, either. The service was very friendly too - I would definitely recommend eating here.

Poor quality seafood

It seems they sell more meat than fish or seafood even though they seem to be a seafood restaurant. We had the seafood platter. The shrimps had a lot of bad tasting eggs attached to them. The oysters' appearance was cloudy and fatty and tasted weird. The seafood all together were not fresh enough, I assume. Luckily no one got sick afterwards! The king prawns and salmon soup were definitely the best of the meal. The wine list was average but we did find good enough wine for our food. There was no chance to decant it though.

We are very strict with the quality of the food we serve and always serve fish and seafood as fresh as possible. Nice seafood

Our family of 5 (a senior and 2 kids of 12 & 9) went for dinner on a Saturday night and it was a very good meal! We made reservation a few days before via TA. We didn't have a full meal as we already ate much at the market halls earlier that day. We tried the shrimps - starter was huge size, and main dish, both very fresh; the mussels starter was also of a big portion and nice too; salmon soup was creamy style and small size was enough. We took a tram there from city centre and it was a bit of a walk in the snow, but still glad that we went.

Top seafood dinner in Helsinki

An oustanding sea food dinner! We ate the sea food platter wich I truly recommend, had mussels, shrimps and so on. Everything we ate was incredible fresh and tasty and in top of all it was enough, not as the other helsinki's fancy restaurants, where the size are always too small. We also had a nice aquavite and a very good Riesling. The place, at least in the winter, ain't that glamourish, but do not miss this place if you want to really eat good in Helsinki!

A must visit restaurant in Helsinki.

I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at the Merimakasiini retaurant. I ordered the seafood royal platter which consisted of a variety of shellfish items such as gratinated blue mussels, half Rock Lobster grilled, gratinated Fin de Claire oysters, signal crayfish, langoustine, scallop,smoked shrimps from Åland, and marinated blue mussels. My friend and I had a great time working on all the selfish platter, in addition to the soup and appetizers that come with the entree. But the one thing that stood out and what I look for the most is cuter service. Our waitress was probably one of the best I've ever had the serve me. She was kind, respectful and funny. Additionally, she always made sure that we were enjoying our meal and cared for our needs. I don't remember her name and I'm sorry for that. But if she reads this my last name on this review is the same age the reservation on August 9th 2024. Great restaurant, great atmosphere and a nice view of the water.

A seafood restaurant in an untouristy area

I enjoyed dinner at this restaurant overlooking one of Helsinki's many bodies of water. Large portions (at the end of the meal we realized that the two soups would be more than enough) good food. We ordered the typical salmon soup and mixed fish soup, a main consisting of a nice portion of shrimp, raw vegetables and toast and a fish with potatoes and vegetables. Nice people, pleasant environment overlooking the harbor.

Food was excellent, both soups was very tasty and the smaller one big enough. Grilled crabs also good. Ice cream ball was big! There was two employee at serving, other one was excellent, but the second one not so smiling. Price level reasonable. We will come again.

Whilst the exterior of this restaurant is tired and unwelcoming the interior, staff and cuisine was excellent. Beautifully presented and perfectly cooked dishes complemented by a nice varied wine list. Made for a perfect end to my stay in Helsinki

A fantastic fish food find!!

Fantastic find for our first dinner in Helsinki I had the Fresh Blue Muscles, the best that I have had in a VERY long time, delicious . My husband had the fish soup. It was like a French fish soup with some wonderful additions, including a bit of heat. It left my husband happily quiet for quite a while . 😂 My tiger prawn Thermidor was out of this world . The prawns were so fresh and however it was put together was soo tasty . My husband's prawn and brioche was very impressive and tasty too. We are so pleased we found this restaurant. Now our problem is to find equally good restaurants for the next few evenings. I highly recommend this restaurant for fish meals 😊
