Savotta offers traditional Finnish dishes such as reindeer, salmon, bear and more. They use and combine different ingredients in a creative way to bring an interesting twist to traditional Finnish cuisine. All the ingredients are Finnish and well known in the Finnish kitchens. The food is very tasty. Our Finnish-Chinese group ordered salmon, reindeer and white fish, everyone enjoyed their food. The service is excellent and very friendly. Our waitress explained the ingredients of each dish and told us interesting facts of the restaurant. The décor of the restaurant is cozy and very vintage. It reminds me of my grandmother’s home in the country side, in a good way! The restaurant has put a lot of effort in the atmosphere, everything from the waitresses’ outfits to the tableware is well thought. Bonus points for quitting the use of bottled still water to reduce their carbon footprint, the tap water in Finland is among the cleanest in the world. My favourite dish of the evening was Fazer chocolate crème brulee, it was amazing! I highly recommend it as a dessert for every chocolate enthusiast. If you want to taste traditional Finnish flavors of high quality in an authentic atmosphere, this is your place.

I had lunch here with friends. It was a nice, quiet time of day to visit which meant we were given a corner table with a perfect view of the cathedral. We were given a complimentary salmon and beetroot on rye canapé before our delicious smoked reindeer and Koskenlaskija cheese soup arrived. The service was excellent and the interior was very cosy with hides and tapestries decorated around. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Helsinki and wanting to savour the city's food heritage.

Good service from our arrival until the final invoice and very good Finnish food. We were noticed as soon as we arrived at the restaurant, and it was great to be able to choose which room we wanted to sit in. The facilities are spacious and no one was seated at the next table, so dining felt safe. The menu is not very extensive, but still includes enough fish, meat and vegetarian options. In the beginning, we ate Kalasavotta, which contained a lot of different flavors, e.g. salmon, mushroom salad, whitefish mousse, smoked herring, potatoes, mini Karelian pie etc. The dish was full of various delicious flavors, definitely worth testing. As a main course we ate fried whitefish, this portion was also really good, the whitefish skin was crispy fried and the potatoes were just delicious. The wines are reasonably priced, a bottle of light red wine suitable for food cost just under 40 euros. The atmosphere in Savotta is nice and warm, the service is friendly and helpful and the food is very good value for money, this place is worth experiencing

I visited here in February, so not a particularly busy part of the tourist year. I wanted a traditional meal. The rooms are small and cosy and the staff dressed in traditional gear. Although I was on my own I didn't feel awkward. I had a starter of bear - a bit like beef but with a milder flavour served with a horse radish cream and rye bread. For a main I had elk sausage (really tasty) and Reindeer fillets (again like beef) with mash. I really enjoyed the meal, and the experience. It is not cheap but as a one off, it was good value. The service was great as well.

We wanted to enjoy Finnish cuisine for a special occasion celebration during our short visit to Helsinki - and the meal here was outstanding. We did not have a reservation but were able to get seated in the lovely outdoor terrace, decorated with flowers and colorful tablecloths. We enjoyed wonderful first courses of beetroot salad and Grilled elk with pepper jelly- both featured tasty sauces. For an intermezzo, we chose the “bear bites” a delectable northern bear stew. We also drank a nice French red Roussillon Bila Haut which perfectly matched all our courses, especially the main course of roast reindeer with potatoes, carrots and a wonderful sauce. Continuing our Finnish culinary adventure we enjoyed the traditional desserts of French toast with berries, whipped cream and ice cream, as well as a cloudberry specialty. It was a marvelous meal that exceeded our high expectations.

Authentic Finnish restaurant with great views of Helsinki Cathedral if you get a window seat. Menu is full of hearty dishes at reasonable prices. Food quality was great, and i particular enjoyed the reindeer and elk, washed down with crowberry wine. Very well located it's a great stop on an itinerary to the city

Not an extraordinary place, but nice enough for a first experience of Finnish food. The menu is limited but has all the traditional dishes you may want to try as a first experience of Local food. Good quality, generous portions, traditional presentation’ and homey feeling. Not exceptional but quite nice

I went for a dinner on a week day. The place was relatively busy, but I got seated quickly and the service was very friendly . As far as I can tell their dishes are original Finnish cuisine, very well presented, very tasty. They brought a small starter as an invitation from the chef. I went for a tidbit of bear from Kainuu region as a starter and for Topside roast of reindeer and elk sausage as the main course. They have good selection of deserts too. I also ordered serving of bread - very good bread indeed. The place looks nice and has a special atmosphere. If you are sitting at the window, you can see the Cathedral.

Very disappointed with the service and customer care. I ordered 2 servings of lamb, and each serving has a very high price. When it arrived at the table there was a portion all together, i thought it was just one dose. I asked the lady and she said it was the two doses together!! i didn't want to believe it, because it was barely enough for one person, and taking into account the price of each dose, i found it unbelievable. I explained to the lady who was attending the situation and i asked a little more to add that small portion. The lady answered that to bring more I had to pay! This has never happened to me in the hundreds of restaurants i customly visit, around the world. What a lack of consideration.

The place is located in front of the chatedral place and the interiors are typical old Finnish style. Service is very kind and quite fast. The food is good and typical. I had the appetizer and the taste of bear. Delicious. Good selection of beers. Quite expensive considering that the appetizers are small portions and if you want the main dish of bear it's 62 euros! Anyway I recommend!

This restaurant serves wonderful traditional Finnish food as though you are visiting your grandparents. The food was superb: I had the salmon chowder, elk burger and flowerpot. We also tried the bear tidbits. Service was pleasant and welcoming. You could see the sunset behind the church across the street. I chose this restaurant based on the reviews and we made a reservation (also a must). Definitely should be on everyone's list. A Finnish member of our party was incredibly impressed, saying that she remembered these flavors and dishes from her grandmother.

This traditional Finnish restaurant is located across from Helsinki Cathedral. After trying several other similar restaurants which were completely booked, the Savotta was nice enough to squeeze me in for a nice dinner. I had the fish soup to start which was creamy with dill and salmon. For my entree I had the pike perch stewed in herbal butter. The fish was light and tasty. It came with a shrimp terrine and vegetables. To accompany I had a glass of wine. Service was good considering they were fully packed. Cost was about typical for Helsinki mid-range. Including wine, about 50 Euros for one.

I booked here as we wanted to have a really ‘Finnish’ experience as it was our first time in Helsinki. The ‘authentic’ decor also appealed to us and we figured it would be more memorable than just going to a mainstream restaurant. We were not disappointed! The service was outstanding, I must start by saying: the waitress was so helpful in explaining some parts of the menu, and was also good fun. We tried bear and reindeer (incredible, even if we felt a little guilty!) and also the pike (lovely, flakey, white fish). We felt it was quite expensive but, again, much like the rest of Scandinavia we found some of the prices quite high generally. Overall though, great food and a great time.

The restaurant is so cosy and looks like a real Finnish summer cottage. The food was delicious and the wine too. There is a buffet in the shape of a boat for all sorts of delicacies. Special mention to Anne, our waitress, who is a wonderful character! She was funny, explained all the dishes, chatted with us, made us laugh so much! Thank you for a great evening!!

Don’t be fooled! We should have known by looking at the location that this is a bit of a tourist trap. On entering it looks ok and has an authentic ‘feel’. Staff are lovely and very welcoming. Choice of drinks good. Food a disappointment, particularly our main courses. Sautéed Reindeer & Elk burger. The reindeer was tasteless with almost non-existent showing of Lingonberry, served with bland mash potato. The burger was ‘ok’ but no better, the bun was over toasted and the fries (more like jacket wedges), we’re not very nice at all, like frozen potatoes re-fried?? They came with Ligonberry ketchup, very odd, neither ketchup nor chutney. We had a shared platter to start 2 glasses of wine and a beer. €115. Plenty of better places at the same or less!!
