Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This restaurant is located at Scandic Grand Marina Hotel. We had dinner here while staying at the hotel.
At weekends, Scandic Friends members get -10% from the food. Also, there are Scandic Friends wines 26 euros per bottle.
The service was partly self-service. The restaurant was moved to the bar because of the pandemic. However, everything worked very well.
Our chicken dishes were tasty.

This atmospheric restaurant is located at Scandic Grand Marina Hotel in an old warehouse building.
We stayed two nights here. Breakfast is always included in the room rate.
This time, the hotel was quite full. So the breakfast was busy.
However, the breakfast buffet is well planned and it can manage bigger crowds.
The food selection is quite wide. It is quite the same as in every Finnish Scandic Hotel.
On the first morning, boiled eggs were finished. We don't like the powder-made scrambled egg that is so typical at Finnish hotels.
It was quite easy to find a clean table. The tables were effectively cleaned.

We enjoyed a family dinner while staying at the hotel. The waiter was professional and took the kids very well into account. They enjoyed their dinner, and the adults, too :P

Grand Marina is popular conference hotel, near Helsinki's major attractions and next to Viking Line's ferry terminal. Been here at least 5-6 times this year alone, so I know this restaurant very well and it also is their breakfast room. Large place, safe menu(Club sandwich, one burger, Caesar salad etc), with some Finnish favourites. Service is usually friendly, with several different languages. Food is nothing that special, but has always been good enough after long day. They also have lobby bar area for drinks

I stayed in the hotel for a business trip and I saw a lot of people of the hotel eating here. I do not like to eat alone in a restaurant but it is very common here. The steak sandwich of the summer menu was very nice. It was a full plate.
You can get bread as a starter and you can get this yourself.

To be honest I never expect much in terms of food when eating in Helsinki, but even here I wouldn't have expected the shocking service I got at this restaurant. I ordered a burger and was asked was medium rare OK, I said yes, as I don't like overdone meat. However, what I got was a burger absolutely raw in the middle - which is a dangerous way to serve a burger. When I pointed this out to the waitress, her response was 'OK' - that was it, 'OK'. Not 'sorry', or any admission that this was anything to apologise for. Nor did she attempt to make any amends - she just walked off and left me there with my plate of raw meat.
When I realised she had no intention of doing anything about it, I asked for the bill and was charged €24 for a raw burger and a coke.
Badly cooked and dangerous food, and the worst service I've had in a long time. Avoid.

Dined on a number of occasions (including New Years Eve) whilst staying at the hotel. Menu is quite limited, so if you want to dine a couple of times, you need to choose wisely (but could almost cover the whole menu!). Food portion sizes were good and flavour was reasonable for a hotel restaurant. Free section of fresh (self service) bread was a highlight and means you don't need to order any starters! Atmosphere is as expected for dining in a hotel; and service was very much hit or miss - one day it was great, attentive, friendly and efficient; the next day it was as if we didn't exist. Price was also on the higher side, when compared to some other options nearby. But overall it did what we needed it to do and as a result, my parents denied here a few more times during our stay.

Staying in Scandic this restaurant is an obvious choice. I see no reason to exit the hotel for a tasty dinner. Friendly service, affordable pricing, tasty food. The menu is not long but it has something for nearly everyone. I felt comfortable and pleased.

If you stay at Scandic Grand Marina hotel, you are tired or the weather is bad - do not hesitate to go to this restaurant. The food is really good (European cuisine), good service, atmosphere and a view from the window.

Quite good hotel food, burgers, steaks, salads and so on. Buffet option also available, did not try though. It is a bit on an expensive side but OK. For kids they offer a buffet - very poor with very old soggy food so take a la carte for kids too!

Visited a few times with friends. Every time really good food, friendly and helpful service. One of the best restaurants in town. If you want a full tummy with A´la carte quality food and service, this is the place to go. And the prices are reasonable or even below average.

The only reason to eat here is if you are staying at the hotel that houses this restaurant. Otherwise, the 28 euro (without drinks) buffet will leave you disappointed and the a la carte menu is not much better. Go out and eat at amazing restaurants dotting the city center.

We arrived on a late Sunday afternoon for our stay at the Scandic, and after a quick refresh decided to eat at Ravintola Makasiini because first, it was convenient, and second, we wanted to try authentic Finnish dishes from the menu. Our children, ages 11 and 13, chose the hamburger and fries from the children's menu and the ravioli from the regular menu, respectively. My husband chose the Savuporo, smoked reindeer and baked cheese salad with cranberry compote from the starter menu, and I chose the Lohikeitto, a salmon and potato soup. The cranberry compote gave just the right zing to the smoky taste of the meat. The salmon and baby potatoes were delicious, with neither flavor overpowering the other. The herb flavorings were delicious, too, though I am not enough of an expert to know what they were. We didn't try any of the main courses or desserts as we were a bit travel weary. However, as guests, we were treated to the amazing all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet where we tried out the rice cakes with egg and butter on top, the mini crepes with jam, and home-baked bread, rolls, and cinnamon rolls. There are also traditional English-type breakfast foods: Eggs either scrambled, soft or hard-boiled, tea, coffee, juices, cereal, milk, yogurt and more. A scrumptious feast that we and our children got to enjoy both mornings we were there. It really adds a tremendous value to staying at the Scandic Grand Marina, which we also gave 5 stars for top quality.
