A casual dinner

Went here for a spontaneous dinner and it worked fine. The prices were pretty average but the plates a bit smaller than expected. The entry steak tartar was delicious and the rest of the food was also tasty. The setting is nice but not overly cozy.

Good meal, great location

The location is perfect right in the heart of the city. There’s a warm ambiance and the staff there are great. The menu selection for a steak house is fairly small on choice. The food was cooked perfectly and well presented. It should have got 5 stars. Yet it seems the more upmarket you go with restaurants in Helsinki the greater their addiction to copious amounts of salt. The side sauces, the fish and even the side veggies were absolutely pickled.

We recerved table via Quandoo. Our table was kind of bad place near the winefreezer so we got feeling that we are in a way. We ordered tastemenu 5 courses and it was great, both vegetarian and meat versions. One point, there should be more information about the food like in a card or something because you forget everything after waiter has said what is in the food. Coffee was good and suprisingly free of charge :)

Good food, awful concept

Good food, friendly service, terrible planning - the party in- and outdoor at the same time led to us waiting for the main course for more than 1 hour... which is not acceptable. The consecutive noise was barely ok, but conversation only possible by shouting. A good kitchen ruined by hazardous concept!

A 5* Restaurant with a 3* Bar attached

The reviews for Grotesk as a bar rave about it, but I wasn’t convinced. The welcome in the restaurant was standoffish, the outside bar area was lacking in seats (with a huge empty standing space that made it look deserted even though a couple of dozen people were spread around the outside) and the blackboards / menus were more budget Balearic beach bar than cool Helsinki cocktail establishment. The cocktails were great though (especially with the Tanqueray offer they had on) and if the cushions weren’t soggy, I’d have been fully contented. Good idea, sloppily executed.

Great service

Didn't actually eat there but did go to check it out. The kitchen was closed. The bar on the terrace looks amazing and was buzzing. The restaurant inside looked nice- though the furnishings cold have been a bit newer. The bouncer at the entrance was very helpful and suggested other places to eat as the kitchen had closed down- don't see that happening much ever.

Phenomenal steak

Easily the best steak I’ve had anywhere in Finland. Starter and dessert were also delicious. Expensive but well worth it.

Overrated restaurant

Went there with family. First of all we had young waitress who served us. She didn’t know much about anything. She couldn’t tell more about food or drinks. Very dissapointing service. Starters were ok, nothing special. As a main course, I had whitefish and it was probably the worst fish I have ever eated in restaurant. It tasted burned (of cource they use coal grill to cook) but it didn’t have any other flavour on it. The fish was hard to eat since it came as a whole and had a lots of small fishbones. Steak apparently were ok, so if you go there, take steak. I won’t go there for a second time

Very nice restaurant

A very nice restaurant in central Helsinki. We choseed the chef’s tasting menu with the accompanying wine package. It was a very good and well-made three-course meal with excellent wines. The meat was perfect! Good service. I can really recommend a visit here if you are in Helsinki.

Located in city center with easy access. Quite odd customer service. Slow, forgetting orders every once in a while and didnt quite make you feel wellcome. Staff seem to enjoy their own company more than customers. Food was okay, some of it very good. Quite difficult to say if I want to go again or not. Wine list was a dissapointment.

Look for the wines

Food at Grotesk has always been worth of every penny, but Wine list is even better. Quality is super and prices surprisingly OK for being Finland. Main sommelier really knows his wines.

Premium steaks!

This restaurant really knows how to make premium steaks. Delicious. Perfect. Very good service. And good wine list. Seating is very relaxed and unpretentious. We really enjoyed the meal.

Excellent steak, quite expensive

Absolutely excellent steak... really well cooked (rare, tasty, good quality cut of meat). Service was attentive without being “too much” Wine was delicious. Only “fly in ointment” was the price...! Ok so we drank wine (expensive in Helsinki), but when we split group bill was 100 Euro per person for starter, main plus wine....

Busy Saturday evening dinner with friends. Nice table and friendly service. Had some trouble to find right wine, with the comment from sommalier that unfortunately they don’t have what I am looking for. Pasta starter with strong enough tryffel was great. Pastrami was left too raw, basically without preparation. As such the ”sasami” tasted ok. Beef tenderloin maybe on of the best I have tasted. The side broccolini was a failure. Tasted totally odd and non prepared. Rosemary potatoes were tasty and combined nicely with steak. Desserts are overpriced.
