A great steak restaurant.

A great steak restaurant. Ordered the salmon soup and the lobster bisque. Followed by the Ribeye steak with sweet potato fries. Both the soups were served hot and tasty. The salmon soup was clear but sweet tasting. Good balance of potatoes & carrots with a sprinkle of herb made the salmon taste good. The lobster bisque had a good balance of cream with tasty chunks of the lobster meat. Now the real taste is in the Ribeye (350g) done medium well and garnished with black pepper sauce. The steak was tender and juicy. Coupled with the sauce, completes the melt in your mouth tenderly done steak. The place had a very woody warm look with the temperature well regulated for comfort. Waiters were attentive and service was good. Definitely highly recommend this place to steak lovers.

Great food, mediocre service

Food has always been good in Goodwin. This time we had ceasar salad, caprese and garlic breads for starters, 400 gr chateaubriand for main and apple pie for dessert. All excellent and delicious. Service was minimalistic, no one came to check on us or take refill orders for drinks. Keep up the good work with the food and teach the waiters some small talk skills and how to smile.

Midsummer Eve dinner

This is a restaurant where you go for a steak. Yes - they also have some seafood options and even a vegan steak but "real" meat is the main issue. When you read the menu and see the sizes of steaks you start thinking how to create a normal three-course menu. We solved this danger of overdose by sharing garlic breads one per person (there were three of us) a plate of greek salad and two bowls of potatoes (especially sweet potato fries were our favourite) . With this sharing we could enjoy our filet mignons and desserts. Garlic breads were a little hard, but with lots of taste of garlic. Greek salad was good, with an extra of capers. However, we would have enjoyed some bread to accompany the salad. Fillet mignons were great: very tender and medium, as wished. As desserts fondant and creme brulee were delicious. The red house wine was to our liking. The evening seemed to be rather busy and kept the waiters on the move, but the service was carried out without any delays but it did not leave time for any extra chat.

High price but mediocre/touristic quality

Steaks are really nothing special, inner filee, rib-eye and New York style steak have very little different to each other except fattiness and taste. French fries were little try just like you would expect in Mc Donalds. Some waitresses didnot enjoy to work there and did not communicate well and soup machine in toilet was fixe badly.

Service let’s everything down

We went for Goodwin to get a good steak. That we got but we did not expect everything else to be below par. The most disappointing was the service. The servers seemed to be unhappy to be there, and mostly annoyed by having to serve anyone. Don’t get me wrong, for the most part service was quite quick but there was no welcoming atmosphere, no warm ness to it and I just felt that the server would rather be anywhere else than serving me at that moment. The side dishes were really below par, I don’t remember when was the last time I had such bad tasteless French fries. Almost none of the meat was Finnish. I understand this when you want to serve waguy for example, but there is no reason to haul dry aged beef all the way from the US or New Zealand. Feels irresponsible. If you’re in it for the meat - it’s not a bad choice as long as you don’t have high expectations of service. However I felt it is nowhere near to great price quality ratio.

Good surf and turf restaurant

After a week of herring and reindeer (just kidding!), my wife and i had to have a beef fix so we stopped at Goodwin, right next to our Hotel Haven. I ordered mushroom soup and a burger, and my wife had stroganoff, which we enjoyed. The soup was particularly tasty and had a wonderful rich umami mushroom flavor. Although we didn't order seafood, there were some excellent looking seafood selections on the menu too. Good place to stop after getting off the Suomenlinna ferry at Market Square.

Excellent steak but expensive

My steak tasted amazing. The steak is the size I would recommend but if you add side portions you pay extra so I would order 2 for a complete dinner. I only ordered one so was hungry after. The staff didn’t mention this. The restaurant was of a very high standard but do expect to pay. It’s expensive

Bad choose for very an expensive steak restaurant

I wrote this review only to remember this restaurant. Not in a good way. It was/is a BAD CHOICE. We started the dinner discussions with: what is the professionalism and who can be. After we finnished the dinner it is very clear, this place is not for professionals: either gourmets, or restaurant personals. The food is good, but not execellent. I tried the rib eye steak, but nothing impresed me. It was cooked right, but the taste of the meal is far way compare with other experience (the restaurant is positioned on the high level and I made comparison with similar restaurants). The main problem with this restaurant is the service and the attitude to the clients (when I am in the very expensive restaurant I expected a lot from waiters especially). Our waiter was a young lady which most of the time she used a very iritative tone with high speaker level. The main problem it was when we asked for a red wine (they have a list with different kinds of wine and prices). I choosed a Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile. After 8-10 minute of waiting (with main course in the front of us), they decided that don’t have the wine (it was a lot of aggitation and noisy in the searching of the wine). So, we choosed another wine from South Africa (Shiraz). After 5 minutes the same verdict: the wine was finished. Another waiter try to give us some expensive wines from France. He just show us the wines, without any explanation why he recommended this wine. (So, don’t expect to be here somebody with some skill of the somelier). Finnaly, we select a home made wine (very expensive, 24 euros for 0.5 l, from Italy. The price for this kind of wine is normally maximum 4 euro/l). I can not enjoyed too much the steak, because it was cold after a lot of waiting and the wine was a wish-wash. When we left this preciosly restaurant, all the waiters ignore us in the intentional mode (this atitidune is rare but can be). Another example of the (missing) professionalism or less of the education. Because, they want to compare with USA, I remembered a steak restaurant in New York, with similar prices (maybe higher in Helsinki), which is single common element. The New York restaurant was with classical ambiance (waiters cloting, inside arrangement, impecable white table cloth, etc ), compare with the impersonal style from here. Otherwise, I fully recommended to the all personal from this restaurant to make some practice over sea, to learn which means the quality of the meals and the service.

Bad customer service

Me and my friend visited Goodwin"s in February and I must say the food was well prepared and especially tuna steak was the best I have ever had. But the service at this place ruined it all for me, I am sorry to say this. One female waiter was talking about us with other staff, discussing with details also our appearance and the way we behave and appear at the place. With this kind of experience I see that there is not much that food can improve any longer. Also, other tables with older customers (we are quite young) got much better and polite service than us,

We were looking for a perfect beef tartar but we did not find it here

Service was good. Menu looked delicious for meat lovers such as we are. We both had beef tartar which was the very reason to choose this restaurant. For my husband it was a starter, a main course for me. We both were very disappointed to taste strong anjovis in our BEEF tartars. When asked, we were told that the tartar steak includes for example anjovis and ketchup (plus some other spices). We hated it, unfortunately. You dont expect to taste fish, when you order a beef tartar. And I love caesar salad which includes anjovis in the dressing. My husband had a rib eye steak which was cooked perfectly (medium) and he was asked to cut the steak upon arrival to the table to make sure it was done to his liking. Desserts were wonderful. I loved the pavlova, and creme brulee was also very tasty. Overall ok, but because of the fishy beef tartar disappointing 3/5.

Quality doesn't match the prices

Not the treat I was expecting. I would've expected better quality meat considering the high prices. When you pay almost 50€ for a steak you don't expect something you need to chew quite so much. The pepper sauce was watery and lacked in taste.

A very Satisfying meal!

Chanced upon Goodwin Steak house while going to the traditional old market hall. It was just opposite the market hall. Ambience was good and cosy. Portion of all meals was of good size. Warm breads were served before meal. Kids menu is also available, do ask them for it. Orderd a ribeye and also a wagyu beef steak. Steak size was big , juicy and done perfectly on how we like it. Sides have to order separately as it do not come with it. Price was also very reasonable. Highly recommended!

Steak was ok, cooked well so the stage we ordered them (medium rare). Everything lacked a bit of taste and salt but luckily there was salt at the table. There are far better steak restaurants near by the area in my experience. Good customer service but they did not get our order quite right. One side dish was missing and we already managed to finish our plates when they asked if we were still missing it.

Great food with family members

We had a great time and enjoyed fine dining at Goodwin Steak House. First I had a creamy lobster soup and the main dish was sirloin steak 350gr and medium done. Friendly staff and atmosphere was lovely.

Not a place to revisit

Ribeye steak very hard to cut and chewy, Had to give up chewing, not good at all. Red wine gravy also a disappointment . Vegetable’s ok but soggy fried potatoes. Staff seemed to be very uninspired
