The food and service was excellent! And the food was heavenly. We had beetroot pasta with feta cheese and falafel rice with tzatsiki. Highly recommended!
First off, Suomenlinna is so worth visiting! Catch an earlier ferry if possible to see the islands without the crowd. Then head to this lovely little spot by the marina, amd do like I did. Order a chicken satay snd glass of German Reisling. Sit...in the terrace and watch the boats go by. But also watch out for the sparrows who are happy to share your lunch!More
Cosy bistro type restaurant at Suomenlinna harbour with a seaside terrace. We had two pasta dishes (chorizo & artichoke) and they were delicious and plentiful. Definitely a recommendation. No table bookings during summer season.
Did not eat anything but enjoyed some drinks incl the island brewed craft beer. Nice decking outdoor seats, nice view of the boats, nice place to chill and relax on the island.
We came here as a group of three adults and two children for supper. It had the most beautiful views and surroundings. Food was delicious too but sitting outside can get quite cold in the evening so wrap up warm! Would hugely recommend. Wonderfully peaceful.
Very nice environment, a cafe by the waterside. Pretty easy to locate too. Once you cross the bridge in front of Suomenlinna Museum, turn right and walk 150m. We ordered smoked salmon soup (€9.90) and we can refill the soup and the bread by ourselves....We found a lot of potatoes, carrots and onions in the soup but not much salmon meat. We also ordered seafood pasta (€15.50). The taste was fine but it wasn’t what we had expected. However, the cafe offered free coffee with the food and that was really nice. We saw some other customers’ salad and were impressed by its big size. We would try salad next time we visit.More
Thank you for a superb service for a visiting sailing guest. I got perfectly clear where to shower and eat while at bay!
A very nice cafe with casual atmosphere and self service. We shared two warm dishes and were a bit unsure what it actually was we were served. One dish was with pulled oat and the other said meat on the menu, but was actually fish....Anyway the dishes were very flavorful and I liked it a lot.More
Valimo means a foundry. This historical restaurant building has been a foundry of projectiles. It was built in the 1870s and it has a grass roof. I could say that this restaurant is a hidden gem. It is situated in the guest harbor of the...must-see Suomenlinna Island Fortress. However, this small harbor and restaurant don't belong to the conventional walking route of tourists, because it is an offshoot trail and the area looks like a storage area. The menu may be different every day. They use ethical ingredients of the season. They serve both salad, soup, pasta, meat and fish but the selection is very limited. Orders are made from the bar. They have a small indoor restaurant and a large summer terrace next to the guest harbor. Watch out seagulls outdoors. Seagulls don't disturb you if you are eating but they can eat your meal if you leave it unattended. We loved both our meals, the atmosphere and the scenery.More
Suomenlinna a place deserve thiusands time to visit..Cafe Bar Valimo there is a must visit of Suomenlinna. We came across this place whilst strolling around the island. The food was delicious, the best I had during a week in Helsinki. The salmon salad was wonderful and enough for two people to share. All the portions were generous, tasty food and lovely, friendly...service.More
Stumbled on this place while checking out the drydock. They have a lovely terrace on the little harbour and we couldn't resist a rest and a drink. Very friendly service and comfy seats next to the water with delightful little birds fluttering about unintrusively. Our...30 minute rest turned in to 2 hours it was so lovely in the sun, watching boats come and go and ducks in the water. It was a perfect supplement to charging around the island taking in the sights.More
I'm rating this restaurant as "very good" (4 out of 5 stars) because it was overall a very pleasant lunch. However, I ordered the salmon soup, on a recommendation, but found it to be very skimpy on the salmon, and loaded with potatoes. Not that...I mind potatoes, but the soup might have been better-named Potato Soup with Salmon Flakes. My husband ordered a croissant, which was our first realisation that the Finns could give the French a run for their money as pastry aficionados. The cafe itself is quite small inside. You order from a small counter, either from the menu, or the self-serve soup, or the small selection of counter food. The cafe is beautiful in terms of its setting inside an old stone building, set back from the crowds down a path that leads alongside the harbour. We were lucky the weather was perfect as we were able to sit out on the deck in the sunshine and watch people sailing in and out on their personal boats. If the weather is conducive I would dine here, again, for the setting, more than the food. Otherwise, I'd personally try one of the other restaurants on the island. And, if you really want to try the Helsinki salmon soup specialty, I'd give the tents at Market Square a go.More
We stopped in for hot chocolate and tea and had a lovely time sitting next to the small harbor people and bird watching. This place was off the beaten path and we were there after the lunch rush so it was perfect. My husband loved...the hand made cocoa (not made from powder).More
