RESTAURANT MURU Muru is located in the heart of Helsinki at the corner of Fredrikinkatu and Lönnrotinkatu. Muru’s idea is to offer simple dishes made from the best and most fresh ingredients available that’s why our menu varies daily. Muru is well known for its relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Customer satisfaction is one of our top priorities, and we believe that is the secret behind our large and loyal customer base. Owners Samuil Angelov, Henri Alen and Timo Linnamäki are all long-term professionals who founded Muru in 2010. Since then, Muru has established itself amongst the very best restaurants in Finland. In 2012, Muru was chosen as the restaurant of the year in Finland by the Finnish Gastronomic society.

You’d be hard pushed to find a restaurant with a greater focus on wine than Muru. This cosy little bistro is home to quirky touches such as a wine bottle chandelier, a bar made from old wine boxes and a raised ‘cellar’ – and that’s not to mention the nearby wine bar they run. Simple, tasty dishes are on-hand to accompany the excellent wine list, and the sommelier’s pairing suggestions are spot-on.

Muru has both a wine bar and restaurant in close but separate locations. We visited the restaurant, which offers a superb tasting menu with optional matched wines. No menu choice (other than the number of courses) but every dish was excellent. The menu of day is written on a chalkboard in Finnish, but the serving staff explain everything in English. The 5-course menu with matched wines came to €260 for two.

We visited Muru on a recent trip to Helsinki and were delighted. The food was divine - excellent value for money in a city not known for being cheap. The wine pairings were also excellent. The service was attentive and friendly, in addition to effortlessly switching between Finnish and English at each table. There was both a casualness and a professionalism at the same time, throughout. Can’t wait to visit again!

We had a 4-course meal with wines. The main course was reindeer which was very good, and for dessert, we had good olive oil ice cream. The food portions and wine servings were small. The service was quite slow, taking well over 2 hours.

There is a very limited menu, but it changes constantly and stays fresh and seasonal. The food is well presented, and the quality is excellent. In particular the fish was exquisitely cooked -- not an easy feat. The wine list was well chosen. The restaurant is quite small, limited seating capacity, closed several days a week, and it is imperative to book in advance or one simply would not find space.

I had an absolutely amazing 4-5 course daily prix fixe meal while in Helsinki for work. The meal that day included a fish crudo, tender flank steak, mushroom risotto, vegetable course and dessert. Every bite was delicious, truly.

We do not say this lightly, but our meal at Muru was one of the best restaurant experiences of our lives (and we have had many). You will need a reservation. Tasting menu with wine pairings was only $125 per person and that was a huge bargain. The blackened whitefish was superb. The cheese course was surprisingly delightful as were the somewhat unusual wine choices. I think everyone in the place was Finnish except for us. We will be back for sure the next time we are in Helsinki.

Muru proved a delightful, tasty and relaxed restaurant. Tasty 'Sea scallops al crudo' were followed by 'Risotto alla chanterelles'; both excellent. The first 'Riesling' was pleasing; the second 'Maconnais Pinot Noir' delightful. Negronis proved fresh, and grappas with cappuccino very original.
Service was excellent and beautifully casual and relaxed (once the exceedingly punctual entrance let us in).
An excellent first visit!

Such an intimate wine bar with a lively vibe. Andrea, the manager and sommelier, is such an engaging host who makes you warmly welcome. His depth of knowledge about wine is impressive and he is able to select just the right wine after we both shared our different preferences. Made to feel special as though you are at the host's table. An exceptional experience.

The food was excellent, as was the service. As out-of-towners, our schedule regarding the train was also kindly taken into account.
The only negative surprise was the Thoureau tap water at the end of the bill: €4.90/bottle.
I do understand that it is a high-class restaurant and this is an easy way to make a cover, but this left a slightly bad aftertaste.
Fortunately, not so bad that I wouldn't recommend the place.

We spent Valentine's eve at Muru, and the evening was perfect. Muru is usually always fully booked on Fri & Sat eves and Valentines Day eve made no exception. The service was smooth and friendly. My wife's dietary requirements were noted very well, and she was over the moon after the vegetarian main course. I was also very happy to the all menu. The wine pairing was spot on. Despite of the fact that they have two servings per evening, ether was no feeling of being rushed by any means (what happens too often in the restaurants with similar set up). All in all, great experience.

Seating is tight but presentation and service were top notch. We chose the food of the day, never know what it is until you arrive, but they also have staples you can order. We also ordered the wine selection they pare with the food. Food and wine all perfectly matched made for a repast to remember. Recommend.

The menu was outstanding, from the greetings from the kitchen to the wonderful gooseberry dessert. Pure joy! The waiters Kiki and Taneli were very knowledgeable Bout the wines, served with the food, from Spain up to Austria. Great experience!

Overprized, arrogant staff, used to be good - thinks No need to do their best anymore as people still coming based on old reputation. Had a dinner- bad experience - will not go back anymore. Tons of better place in Helsinki. Ei jatkoon.

We had dinner on 8th July expecting a high level of restautant experience due to high rankings of the restaurant - and some own earlier experience years ago. The food was as expected, wines matching nicely with the food, but not as good wines as expected. The level of service was a big disappointment. Very basic mistakes in the beginning not to be expected in this level of restaurant. In overall, the service was busy, mechanical, the same level I could expect at a petrol station restaurant. No dedication or soul, no stories of wines, only some facts when asked more.
