You always feel very welcome at the Scallion Cafe because the owners are so friendly. The food is good and prices low compared to many other places in Punavuori! There is plenty of space at the outdoor terrace, which is decorated with beautiful flowers.
First of all, I'd like to mention that I have been long term customer of this place. However, I cannot recommend it anymore after being mistreated. We went there to get a coffee and some pastry. When parking bicycle, rude owner came out and instead...of saying politely that we shouldn't park bicycle, he started angrily talking that if someone pushes the bike and window breaks they'll find us and we will pay 4000 euros. Can’t recommend this place who doesn’t respect their long term customers. It doesn’t cost to say things in a nice way, however, being rude cost you losing customers & their friends. Moreover, the place owner has replied in Google Maps that "you can take your bicycle and your friends and get out of our coffee shop". It seems that owner cannot stand criticism.More
I accidentally dropped in this café's terrace and had a lunch soup, which was watery, but within the limits of alright. It was cheap, which was the reason I stopped by. I read my ebook during the lunch and also when I was drinking coffee...after it. There was a group of three coming to the half-empty terrace, but could not fit in as there were only tables for two. The owner came a bit later for me to tell that you cannot read your book here and asked me to leave the place. I packed my stuff and went in for asking why and he was very rude with me saying that no reading is allowed, you just have to buy, eat and go away. He blamed for me of occupying the place, which was not my fault anyways. I had had about half of my coffee there and spend no more than 25 minutes in the terrace. I strongly advice not going there.More
I dropped into Cafe Scallion for lunch today, feeing under the weather and in need of soup.
The Salmon Soup was SO delicious and was the perfect warm-me-up. Lots of salmon and potato 😁
Lovely staff and cute cosy atmosphere!
We popped in to kill some time before going for dinner. We first tried Ekberg, round the corner but it was very packed, loud and over priced.
The place is very cute and looks really well-made and cosy. Everything is priced very reasonably.
We were...very hungry but didn’t want to eat too much before our dinner.
Both the cakes we tried (white choc n blueberry and honey cake) were absolutely delicious and the coffee was really well made. The girl serving was very polite and helpful.
There was lots and lots to choose from (whether you like sweet or savoury) so we gave in and decided to order more. The owner was very welcoming and offered us a big discount on the rye bread sandwich and chicken soup that we ordered.
The soup was delicous- full of flavour, nicely spiced with plenty of potatoes, aubergine etc. Arslan (the owner) said we can just take more soup if we like. We decided to save ourselves for dinner. He then gave us two pieces of Baklava, a traditional Turkish desert, to try as we hadn’t tried it before. It was really tasty and we were given some more free kahvi as well.
We both felt really welcomed and looked after and would 100% recommend this place. I can’t imagine they’ll be giving out too much more stuff for free as this place is bound to constantly be full of people because their produce is delicious, and all made fresh, on site.
The soup changes every day- tomorrow is lohikeitto (creamy salmon soup) so we will definitely be back.More
