Green Hippo Punavuori serves healthy, price worthy and beautiful food and is very vegan friendly as well. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served Monday -Saturday from early until late and an all-day, highly popular brunch is served on Sundays. We have a big and cozy terrace outside in the summer. Delicious, Healthy Food

Both the Buddha bowl 14.50€ [quinoa, sweet potato, cauliflower purée, beetroot hummus, red cabbage, carrot, soybean avocado, chili & coriander with "Nirvana" sauce (chili, lime, ginger)] and the melon salad (melon mix, vegan feta and puffed glass noodle 7€) we ate were delicious as well as being healthy. You order and pay at the counter. They bring the food to you. You can help yourself to free sparkling (or still) water. The clientele are young Finns, mostly female, slim and healthy looking.

Good food at a good price

Exquisite vegetarian food, very well presented, we ate fresh pasta with avocado and another with beetroot, had good taste, generous portion and good price. Also the sparkling and normal water is free, they have a tap and you are served. The friendly atmosphere and competent service.

Brilliant breakfast at a fantastic price

Brilliantly priced for breakfast. Very good quality yoghurt with nutty seedy muesli sprinkled liberally over it. Then topped with lots of fresh raspberries and a drizzle of honey was a winner. It was a massive bowl too, no skimping here. The scrambled eggs were good and the poached egg on grainy toast with lashings of avocado was fantastic. Hot chocolate was good, berry smoothy delicious and thick (I added it to my muesli) and the espresso coffee was A1 according to my connoisseur husband. Lots of tables inside and out with shade too. Obviously a popular place as it got quite busy around 10.30am.

Excellent restaurant, recommended for vegetarians and non-vegetarians! Almost all dishes are also available in a vegan version. It also does breakfast, lunch and brunch, but we were there one evening. We tried the pasta with avocado and the burger and were really satisfied: they were delicious! For dessert we had the chocolate cake, also very good, served with ice cream and berries. There is seating both outside and inside. First you pay at the register and then you sit and wait for your dish to arrive. The wait wasn't long even though the restaurant was quite full. Absolutely recommended!

I am very pleased that we have popped in to dine in this place. The food looks very appealing, is full of veg so it makes you feel that you are good to your gut and the prices are really decent. The portions are also rather generous so it is hard to leave this place feeling hungry. They also have this great deal with wine, which I can fully recommend.

Confusing menu

The food here is delicious and of high quality - particularly the avocado pasta Beware if you do not eat meat. We ordered a rice dish which said it comes with ‘Don’t chicken’. We thought this would mean it’s vegan chicken considering the rest of the menu appears to be meat free However we were given real chicken. This was quite stressful as we are vegetarian. They swapped it out for tofu for us and did apologise. They said that it happens all the time which suggests they need do make the menu clearer

Good food but far too busy on a Saturday

I have been to the restaurant several times. The food there is good. A few weeks ago, I had brunch with friends. The brunch was a very good value - the latte was pretty bland, but the smoothie bowl, sea buckthorn shot and toast were good! I think the restaurant has lost its charm because of its popularity. The tables are packed to the brim, the queue goes all the way out, the staff seems stressed and busy. The idyllic brunch experience suffers considerably. The first time I went, the staff were really happy and it was a pleasure to do business there. Now I prefer to go to a quieter brunch place where customers are appreciated.

The restaurant has become very popular in recent years, and the crowdedness is further emphasised by the fact we have only beeb allowed to have 50-75 % of seats inside due to COVID. Now, there will be more space again. We have also opened restaurants in Kallio and Töölö, which are a bit more quiet and have big summer terraces at every restaurant, which provide a more hassle-free experience. Hope to see you at our restaurants and terraces in the future as well!

Very lovely place to start your day with a delicious breakfast or have a lunch break. The menu is simple but there is something for everyone. We had the breakfast deal with some extras for just €20,- per person. Very friendly staff that helped us to find a table. I would definitely visit this place next time. (Please note that in the weekends it might be very busy and there is no option to book a table)

A bit over-hyped but good!

First of all this place is at the moment very popular and I understand why, they have good food that looks good on a plate and is very instagrammable. The venue is quite cozy and in a good location. The avocado bread and the banana pancakes are great (tasted my friends pancakes.. below the reason)! One thing that put me a bit off here, is that the restaurant has probably the most complicated and annoying menu of all of Helsinki. They are written in on a chalkboard and most options are only available at a ceratin week day at a certain time. So you need to study the menu for additional minutes to figure out what is even available. (Probably a digital screen with options availbale at the time of your visit might be more convenient for guests.) As I was couple minutes later at the cashiers than my friend, she ot to order the banana pancakes, but as I was queing for about 10min in line the menu had changed in between and I was not able to order them anymore. No exceptions apparently.

Hi! Thanks for the feedback! You're quite right, since we're open from early morning til late in the evening, we have quite a lot of items and different foods available at different times. We have got rid of the chalkboard and now have a bit more clear version of the menu. We have decided not to use digital screens as we feel they would ruin the atmosphere of the restaurant. As for items no longer being available after queuing, we are very sorry about that. If you were in line before the menu changed to the lunch menu, you should've been able to get the breakfast item despite the menu changing for lunch. The reason we need to be quite strict with this overall is that we have very busy lunch hours and need to get started on it right away. Still glad to hear you liked the food and hope to see you again! In the meantime, we will keep working on the menu and the queuing to ensure a smoother experience for everyone!

Hipster café with excellent food

I visited Green Hippo Café with a friend and the first thing that ran through both of our minds was the place looked extremely, stereotypically hipster. The interior was a bit shabby, a bit too small with too much furniture and tables, but the food turned out to be excellent. We both ordered a vegetarian salad, (my friend had the one with halloumi and a poached egg, I had the avocado Zen bowl with extra tofu) and I can't find anything bad to say. Tasty, beautiful presentation, moderate price, and the portion size was good. We were able to finish the meal without leaving anything on the plate, but didin't leave the café hungry. Because the place is so small and tables are very close together, it was rather loud and noisy inside, making it hard to have a conversation with my friend at times. Otherwise we loved the café - especially the salads - and would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in light, healthy meals and hipster atmosphere! It is very close to the city centre and you can easily access it by either foot or tram. Thumbs up!

Worth the trip!

Visited on a Saturday morning with my sister (we were on holiday from Australia). Porridge with Nutella and berries was great! It was only 4 euro! Bargain! The person at the counter was surprised that we only ordered one food item each. We soon discovered the locals were ordering two or three food items each. It was almost like a tapas of breakfast items. Great for trying a bunch of items without overdoing it, but also great if you want a light breakfast. Would 100% go again (and get that porridge again). Really enjoyed both the food and the vibe of the place.

Brilliant service and sensational food

We had a small health problem and the workers were efficient in giving us the help we needed. Had it not been for them the situation could have become much more serious. Undoubtedly an outstanding service. On the other hand, the food was delicious, the coffee superb and the decoration beautiful. Highly recommended. I can only say thank you.

Quick and good food. We waited 5 minutes after we ordered. A little overrated, but I can understand why the cafe is popular - a lot of healthy and instagram friendly pictures. The avocado sandwich was not my favorite, but can recommend the banana pancake!

Enjoyed a delicious walk in lunch, seemingly lucky to get a table. Each and every part if it was fresh with it's own individual taste showing care and creativity by the chefs. The coffee was good though small but not individually made by hand, rather y a machine which I have never seen before. I was surprised that the quality was good (due to it being made this way) but dont expect a flat white is it's not possible. Will definitely return and highly recommend.

Great for breakfast

We ate breakfast at the green hippo. Really nice smaller place and pretty much all seats were taken. Definitely a relaxed atmosphere. Food is good (even when slightly overpriced ). Tasty and filling. Coffee was good and there is no pressure for you to leave even with customers waiting for a table.
