Sushi, tataki, other fish dishes, kimchi, and miso soup all were very good. Quite rare in Helsinki to have Japanese food that actually has a taste that truly reminds you of Japan.
A few oddities that stood out to myself included tonkatsu sauce (or perhaps...other "bulldog" sauce) on the beef tataki -- you would never see this in Japan. Also, serving only 3 pieces of gyoza on a plate (gyoza is extremely cheap to make, not a delicacy, how about sizing up a bit?). Taste of gyoza was of course fine, it is almost impossible to screw up. Sushi tastes very good, but the nigiri size is notably smaller than standard (in Japan).
In any case, the keyword here is quality. The ingredients taste fresh and this is a big difference compared to many places in Helsinki that serve "Japanese" food or sushi. Plus points also for transparency, as the chefs are making the food right in front of you if you decide to sit at the first seating area. Definitely worth a visit if you have a craving for Japanese.More
I had a 6 course menu which costed 50€. There was a great dishes but also not amazing ones. Also the atmosphere wasn’t the greatest. It’s not professional when workers are playing with food throwing it at each other.. I had a little different expectations...when I’ve been in Japan two times. I know they do food with “Umeshu style” which doesn’t mean necessarily traditional Japanese. Okonomiyaki was a huge disappointment because it didn’t taste anything like it and sauce was terrible. Dessert wasn’t anything special and reminded me a frozen cake. I can be wrong(I hope I am!). However I did enjoy the other dishes especially sushi. It tasted fresh which is good. Points for that.
I wouldn’t go there again. I probably would if it’s a lot cheaper and only for sushi.More
I went there two weeks ago and then been there twice, so that's a weekly visit. That's something, as I don't eat out very often in Helsinki. Fish is fresh, the presentation is good. I will probably go back before the week is over...
Ruoka on ensiluokkaista niin maultaan kuin ulkonäöltään. Aito japanilainen ravintola.
Ystävällinen henkilökunta ja juuri sopivan rento tunnelma.
The best japonés restaurant in Helsinki.
The taste of the food as well as the outlook of the food are real the first class. Original japonés restaurant. Friendly...staff and just a right way casual atmosphere 😊More
Umeshu Never let you down
Grandson Niki had 14th birthday and we took him out for a bite. Where you wanna go? Pizza ? Burger ? Umeshu was his immediate answer.
So there we went and had all kind of sushi and to start some...grilled beans with a hint of chilli. Yes. Bull’s eye.More
