This restaurant serves fresh Finnish food a la carte and on menus.
The environment is basic nothing special.
The food is excellent with some creativity but without craziness, you can identify all components.
Prices are correct and service is attentive.

This is a busy and not large restaurant so wise to book, especially for evenings and weekends ..I booked on line the day before for a Friday evening OK. The tables are pretty close together so be prepared for that ..American guy next to me when I first arrived on his phone swearing..albeit quietly at someone (even with him using earpiece) meant you heard absolutely everything..luckily he left soon after. The service for me was functional rather than friendly and welcoming..not many smiles..they are obviously very busy?. There are some good set menus ..most expensive at time of review €55..which I felt was good value for quality of food and set against local prices plus a la carte options. Traditional Salmon Soup very good, full of flavour. For me the Reindeer fillet was the highlight...beautifully tender and tasty in a berry sauce. The only not so great dish was the local goat cheese with jam..a tiny slither of cheese with......a jam was a little underwhelming after the great first two courses. Panna cotta with pomegranate ice cream was a very good ending. Good selection of aperitifs and wine by the glass as well as an extensive wine list. So overall a nice place for a good quality and enjoyable meal all nicely presented.

Went with the Kuu menu, which brings the smoked salmon soup, reindeer fillet, cheese and dessert @59€, quite a lot, without bread or any amuse-bouche. But especially the reindeer was excellent quality, preparation and taste.
We could even dine outside on a mild evening.

Mixed experience. Some of the food was very good, but some was not at all. And after trying arctic charr several times (in other places as well) I now have to admit that I do not like it.
Service here was very professional and friendly.
Restaurant recommends making reservations for larger groups, which we had done.
I don’t think I’ll return.

Of the three fine dining restaurants we experienced in Helsinki, I would rate this one third behind Aito and Baskeri & Basso, which is just my way of saying that if you can only do one or two make it the others in that order ... but Kuu still gets 5 out of 5 for both food and service. It just lacks a bit in ambiance compared to the other two and at around 100 euros per person for 3 courses with paired wines felt slightly over-priced in comparision ... especially to Aito which was the best and least expensive (though not by much) of the three. Still, it was excellent and I both recommend it and would happily go back.

We ate dinner here one evening during a recent stay in Helsinki. The food was really nice and felt very traditional. All the dishes were free of lactose and they were extremely accommodating for my coeliac wife. The restaurant was cosy and the service was friendly and efficient. Reasonably priced. All in all, a really solid dinner!

As a long term fan of Restaurant Kuu, it delights me to find my favourite dishes on the menu while also being offered something new. This time the new delight was a picture perfect rhubarb dessert.
The ingredients were, as always, fresh and seasonal, wine list ( Kuu imports their own) offered something new to discover, and the service could not have been friendlier.
Thank you, the Kuu crew for another lovely evening!

I fined alone one evening and was extremely happy with my meal.
I chose the Kuu set menu at €59:
Traditional smoked salmon soup
Reindeer fillet with celeriac puree, mushrooms and blackcurrant sauce
Cheese with house jam
Dark chocolate cake with passion fruit and passion sorbet
It was good very good food; interesting, well cooked and nicely presented. I opted for the wine pairing as well, the wines were each very well suited to the dish.
The service was excellent; efficient, friendly and the waiters took a little time to chat as well.
Over all, extremely pleasant meal and I’d certainly go again.

This restaurant was close to where we were staying at the Crowne Plaza.
It was by chance we found Kuu, when we went to the local supermarket at the back of our hotel.
We managed to get a booking for that evening, it is a relaxed intimate space, with a small menu, I really like that.
I had the fish of the day and my husband had meatballs, followed by a shared apple pavlova dessert, the food was outstanding, service was excellent and the wine lovely.
We enjoyed it so much so that we went back the next night. This time I had a reindeer with celeriac puree and my husband had liver and bacon, followed by blueberry pie and sour cream icecream and a cheese board, that meal was just beautiful, bravo to the chefs.
Staff were lovely and attentive and knowledgeable. An fabulous all round experience, and the most amazing food. We loved this place, many thanks to all the staff, it was a special evening and a wonderful place to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

The salmon soup is very good, if simple as it should, and the smoke very gentle, as they smoke the fish on site. The blini is generous and overall very good with muikunmäti. The same goes for lamb meatballs. Of the desserts, go for the very nice and fresh orange financier and perhaps avoid the chocolate cake, as the cake isn’t maybe to everyone’s taste, and not the best chocolate cake in town. The service is very good.

I had a 4 course Helsinki-menu and it included starter, main course, cheese and dessert. The starter was really good reindeer tartar, main course was pan fried trout; again really good. The cheese and dessert were good, but the dark chocolate cake was a bit too rich for my taste. All in all there was some surprising tastes in the menu and I liked that. I must also recommend the sea-buckthorn glogg; it's a nice alternative to a regular glogg.
The staff was friendly and helpful and the restaurant itself was cozy and nice.

I reserved a table for two as part of my girlfriend’s birthday. Every dish was available gluten-free which was a really nice surprise since she is not always able to pick whatever she wants.
We were both immediately excited because the staff was really professional and the atmosphere was peaceful and perfect for a winter evening. The complimentary bread was also available gluten-free.
All of our appertizers, main dishes and desserts were wonderful, the portions were plenty, and the presentation was really beautiful. Both of us agreed that this needs to become a place that we visit more often from now on.
I had informed the staff that it was my girlfriend’s birthday and to her surprise they had a lit candle put on her dessert cake. This was really thoughtful and showed that they care about their customers.
A perfect evening for both of us!

We have had a great experience and full evening out at Kuu restaurant.
The girl that served us was so customer friendly, which was a perfect addition to our evening.
We have taken the chefs 4-course menu and added the moose as a fifth course. Enjoyed a cremant to start with and wines by the glass with the rest of our courses.
The wines were very good and the advise from the waitress which wine to take with the course was perfect too.
The food was delicious, every single course and even though this is one of the more expensive restaurants we went to during our stay, we would really go back another time when visiting Helsinki.

This is a good restaurant where we were looked after very well indeed. We each had the smoked salmon soup to start followed by the reindeer and the lambkin meatballs, finishing off with rhubarb crumble and the pannacotta. It was a very good meal. Not stupidly fine dining but very well executed and presented all the same. I doubt you could find better examples of these local dishes elsewhere in Helsinki.

Don´t miss this restaurant, if you are staying / visiting Töölö neighborhood in Helsinki. A classic, since 1966, Kuu serves decent & delicious food with reasonable prices.
For starters, we had goat cheese sallad (her) and poached perch fillet (me). Very nice! And as I later told the friendly waitress: it often happens that after good starters, you are more or less disappointed with the main course(s). Not this time! Her lambkin meatballs and my pan fried liver were excellent. Actually, I don´t think I ever had liver this delicious.
Definitely worth a visit!
