Uleåborg 1881 is one of the restaurants to absolutely visit when in Oulu (Oulu has also a Swedish name, which is - Uleåborg!). The wooden log construction has a cozy, warm atmosphere, the staff is accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly and the food is a great mix of traditional and cross-over dishes with local ingredients. Definitely worth a visit - actually several visits!

A very intimate and high-quality restaurant in the center of Oulu, next to the market and right by the sea.
Thanks to the not-so-extensive menu, the chefs have had time to focus on the preparation of each individual dish, and it really shows and tastes on your meal. Over the years, the staff have already become very familiar and you can hardly wait the dinner after the table is reserved. Waiting for the night is like waiting the visit of your best friend after long absence.
The place is very intimate and is at its best for a couple or small group. A larger group can also fit in, as long as you remember to reserve a table in good time.
The food is excellent and there are enough dishes. The staff understands and knows the best wines and you can either listen to their recommendations, or you can also find your favorite wines from the very long wine list.
You should reserve enough time (and also a bit money) when you are planning taka a dinner at this place, but it is deffinately recommended by me.

We went with 6 people for a dinner. We went with friends and had a big table on a outdoor terrace. The terrace is excellent and you get a breeze of fresh air also from outside world. The food looks nice, and taste is good, nothing too spicy or hot, basic simple good tastes. We had a menu with lots of stuff to eat and many courses and we also took wine menu which was nice. They told us the information about the wines and how they blend nicely with the food.
All in all experience was good! Both wine and food menu you will pay you around 110 euros, and I would say its worth the money. Friendly staff and they seemed very professional and know how.
I would not recommend to go to this place with small chidlren, its more for couples and business

Visited couple of times this year. I guess it is fair To say that this is the Best experience what Comes To restaurants in Oulu at the moment. Staff is always great and I admire how they take care of their business. Also without being arrogant about it. What Comes To food, it is always the highest quality.

Fantastic service, great location and outstanding flavors! A small menu which if not taking the 3 or 5 courses may be a bit confusing. Recommend taking a 3 courses and no Ala Carte.
Had veal starter, raindeer main and cake with ice for dessert with a recommended Amarone wine. Just outstanding!!
May be wise to pre-order table.

Traditional French cuisine. Dessert not in line with the other courses. Pineapple and coconut doesn't belong to French cuisine. We would have prefer tarte Tatin, creme brulee or other French classic. Food was tasty anyway and service was good.

The table reservation was easy during the same day for Friday night. We had quite a few things to celebrate and this restaurant was great for that purpose. This is definitely the best place in Oulu! Menu vol. 51 with the wine package selected for it turned out to be excellent choice. Extra special mention of a long-stewed duck and very professional service. We’ll be back!

I went without reservation. but staffs were so kind and prepared table right away.
Also got recommendation of glass of white wine which was good matching with my fish order.
About fish, I tried other restaurant the day before but was bit disappointed so I was hoping better in this place - It was perfect !!
overall, really enjoyed my dinner and atmosphere was very good too.
Will definitely visit again if I have any chance to visit Oulu 👍

The five cource dinner was one of the best we have ever had. Great combination of flavours, excellent service and perfect location. Good value for the money. Defenetely will visit again when In Oulu.

We went here with my husband. Staff was really nice. Nice location in Oulu city. Food was beautiful but tasteless. This is quite expensive place, so we expected more.

Used to be one of the top restourants in Oulu, but during recent years not so good anymore. Food quality not in line. Sometimes you will get average or worse restaurant food, which is then overpriced

We were going to Lapland and stopped at Oulu for dinner. Service was great and atmosphere amazing. The view from the restaurant’s terrace is to the sea. We ate reindeer fillet with potatoes. The food was good. ☺️
