Taqueria Yuca is an authentic mexican restaurant in the centrum of Rovaniemi, Finland. Yuca is Cafe & Bar 21´s owners newest restaurant where inspirations for food and decorations comes from Yucatan, Mexico. We have made sure that mexican cuisine tastes in our food and that´s why we brought mexican chef Fernando Baena and mexican mixologist Fernanda Gijon to Rovaniemi to help us with the menu.

Authentic Mexican food and drinks in -31 degrees!

We really enjoyed the food; the tacos, in particular, were a delight. Fresh and bursting with flavour. The cocktails were unusual and delicious. The staff were happy to let us cobble together alternatives for the kids from existing menu items (there's no kids' menu). We were sorry we didn't find it till close to the end of our trip; we would all have been happy to go back.

Delicious tacos and hot ice cream

Visited with a friend. Service was quick but friendly and helpful. We had a selection of different tacos and all of them were delicious. I had the mushroom, chorizo and whitefish, the fish was my favorite. Like the way they've added a local touch to latin american food without having to add the reindeer meat, which i think, is getting a bit over the top in some restaurants. For dessert we shared a ball of chocolate-chili ice cream. The taste of it was interesting, and the chili taste very strong. I also had a mexican mule cocktail which was alright. Will definitely be back!

Great tacos and cocktails

Visited for dinner in February 2022, as we had seen the good reviews of this place, and I was not disappointed. The tacos were simply delicious, and we happened to visit on a Tuesday ... Taco Tuesday ... so the prices were even lower than normal (but already quite affordable). Can definitely recommend, and try the fish tacos. Also, we tried several cocktails, they too were absolutely great. Would recommend to reserve as the place is quite small and definitely popular.

Best Mexican food in Finland!

We were on our way home from Levi to the south of Finland when we decided to stop in Rovaniemi. I had read good reviews of this place. The restaurant is very small and it was almost packed full at lunchtime. The decor is quaint and with the Mexican music you can almost imagine being in an authentic taqueria in Mexico (even with a temperature of -20 celsius outside). We managed to get a table and the friendly waitress soon took our orders. We didn’t have to wait too long for our burrito and burrito bowl with chicken to arrive. The dishes were nicely plated and the taste blew our minds away! We have never eaten as good Mexican food. All the fresh ingredients tied in perfectly together. The portions were of good size and very reasonably priced. Don’t forget to try the condiments at the table. Especially the avocado sauce is soooo good! We want this restaurant in Helsinki, too! We have already discussed booking flights to Rovaniemi just to visit this place again. Go, go, go! It’s the best Mexican restaurant in Finland!!

Decent food but no dinner atmosphere

We had dinner in Yuca but were seated in the attached cafe place. Food was good but nothing special. Service is ok given self service at the bar but serving the drinks took really long (actually they were forgotten and I had to pick them up at the bar 20 min after the order) Good value for money though. Would maybe visit again for lunch but not for dinner.

Amazing!

Came here recently for lunch with friends. We were seated quickly, and the staff are really friendly! The menu has lots of options, with tasty and filling dishes. The portion sizes are decent and the prices are moderate. One thing to watch out for is asking for extras, as they charge a surprisingly high amount for these (6 Euros for additional mushrooms!) which we only learned about when we got the bill. But overall, a great experience and really recommend visiting!

Delicious menu, good range for all the family including vegetarian.

We visited on Christmas Day and enjoyed the meal which was packed with fresh flavours. Kids menu was great, tacos and nachos was a good combination. Nice drinks and good for vegetarian, mushroom burrito was lovely. Service was a little slow as they were busy. Had to wipe our own table when we sat down. Booked in advance as this is a small place and we saw lots of people had to be turned away. It is next to Cafe and Bar 21 and you can walk through and that looked really nice for a drink and dessert, but unfortunately we didn't have time to try that.

Fresh Mexico on your plate

We absolutely love this place, as locals in rovaniemi. It's our first choice on where to eat. The tacos are excellent, with a great variety of things to add there, though it will get messy (as tacos should). My partner can not handle any amount of spice, where as I can get enough of it, and we both love this place! Their additional self made hot sauces will burn you twice, if you know what I mean! If you are a spice lover (or not) and are tired of all the greasy tex-mex stuff, this is a place for you. PS: the best and maybe only mezcal in town. Proper Mexican stuff.

Lovely lunch

Yuca is a cozy Mexican-style restaurant in the heart of Rovaniemi. Menu is quite simple, but do not let it mislead you. Food is really tasty and fresh. And especially during lunch time reasonably priced. Try for ex. Mexican Salad Bowl with smoked salmon. What a lovely mix of fresh tastes. Absolutely worth to visit for families with a bit older children and couples.

After the Amarillo it’s a disappointment….

So we arrived with my boyfriend and no welcome from the owner. We decided to take the lead and sit down ourselves on an empty table. We ordered vegan chorizo quesdillas and salmon totopos as starters and shrimp and chicken tacos at the bar. I know Mexican food very, very well and I found this restaurant to be highly rated on the internet. The prices are exorbitant for the quantity and the flavors are very very bland and uninteresting. I think it lacks spice but it has a nice presentation.

Disappointing after all the top reviews I had read

At first glance a cozy little restaurant but was disappointed by the quality of the food - quesadilla with mushrooms had decent taste, lime fraiche and pino de gallo were fresh, tacos with chicken was a bad choice, chicken tasted old, only mango was good. Felt sick afterwards. Both on the quesadilla and on the taco the same thing with plates - tasted nothing but paper, were wet and dull. The waitress didn't seem to like her job, she was quite intimidating, as if all the customers were just on their way. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the place.

Distinct lack of welcome

Having decided to eat Mexican I looked at Trip Advisor and this was the top of 4 Mexican restaurants in Rovaniemi so decided to go. Arrived, very small, there were a few tables, all empty except for 1 man looking at his phone (no food on the table) and a girl behind the counter. Despite us looking a bit unsure/confused neither of them acknowledged us despite standing there for a few minutes. Decided to leave and went to Amarillo (see separate review), glad we did.

Great, fresh, Mexican food

What a lovely small run restaurant. The food was delicious and just the right amount/portion size. We started with tortilla chips with guacamole and salsa as well as mushroom quesadillas followed by a burrito and mushroom tacos. Everything tasted amazing and fresh. The margaritas were also spot on! Delicious food and friendly service!

We also ate at Bar & Cafe21 and Gustav during our trip to Rovaniemi. All 3 places by these owners were very different but Al quite good. Enjoyed some tacos on taco Tuesday which are 3.50 each instead of 2 for 9.50 so def a better deal. We found 3 tacos was the perfect amount. I had fish, pork and mushrooms as my three. All were good but I think fish (and especially sauce on it) was the best. We also got chips and pico and guac before our meal. Pico and guac were good. Chips were only let down of the meal. A bit greasy and needed salt. However overall comparable to any good Mexican restaurant in the US and was looking for a cuisine change so appreciated something different.

Great tacos and friendly service

Best tacos tasted in Finland so far. Churros desert was also very tasty. We were served by a very friendly Sami girl who contributed to the excellent experience with her sunny attitude and great customer service. The place is Santa Claus-free, cosy and reasonably priced.
