Waahto Brewhouse is an easygoing restaurant and terrace on the harbour of Savonlinna. Charcoal grill is the heart of our kitchen! Steaks, burgers and vegetables are made on the heat of an open fire. We also serve beers and cider from our own brewery Waahto Brewery.

Great wiev just in a spot of this dying little town in eastern Finland-Savonlinna

If the address is important to be a succesful restaurant, in Bistro Waahto that´s it! In a middle of market square on a bank of lake Saimaa. So it means that views are excellent. Service in this little oasis is as cool as it could be in eastern part of Finland. Means good and warm. Food is quite modern (scandinavian influenced and local ingredients). Portions are not too big, so you can enjoy at least three courses menu. But, but... by my point of view a level of price and quality it´s not normal, when we are actually on a middle of nowhere. Main courses are from 19 € to 32 €. Absolutely too much. And all the beverages were also over priced (seems to normal in Finland). It was january wednesday evening when I visited this place. Almost 100 places restaurant served for 5 clients. Other vise the place was nice. But those prices, even this Waahto seems to the best restaurant in Savonlinna

A solid dinner and good service even in a hurry

We were staying at the Villa Aria summer hotel, so we got a discount to this restaurant and that's one reasons we chose this place for dinner. The place was pretty crouded at the time, but we managed to get a table without reservation. I ordered a medium steak and my gf ordered a pea risotto. For drinks i chose a local pale ale and my gf took a cocktail, but got the wrong one at first but was offered the correct one and they only charged us for one cocktail. The steak was average but the risotto was delicious. The service was fast, 13 min from placing our order we reseived our main course. Starter bread was delivered with the drinks almost instantly.

Tasty meal with a great view

We were in Savonlinna during the down season so there didn't seem to be that many options for dining. We stumbled onto Waahto and saw that many people were inside eating. After we had dinner we knew why! The food was tasty and pretty affordable for Finland, around $20 euros a plate (I had a burger and my wife had the fish). The portion size was plentiful and the food was cooked perfectly. The service was also great, and the waitress we had even recognized us the next day as we were headed to the train station and wished us well.

Great restaurant in center of Savonlinna.

We heard from a friend who is moving to Savonlinna that it is one of the best restaurants in the area, so we went there. It was sunny and a lot of people. We didn't have a reservation but we got a table (could be an idea to book a table just in case!). We went on 15th of May 2021 on a Friday at 7 pm and the place was packed with people after 8 pm. We had the menu (escargot, tenderloin and chocolate cake). It was good! The service was nice :) They have a brewery so I also tasted their own coctail (beer used as an ingredient). Try it! Would recommend!

Pleasant surprise from a restaurant chosen at random

Very positively surprised! We chose this restaurant at random, and it turned out to be a very good experience. The service was superb and I got some of the best prepared fish I have eaten in a long while. The dessert was also excellent. Very satisfied.

Nice dinner with cool views

We had family dinner at Waahto restaurant. It was a bit late Friday evening, and atmosphere at terrace was more like bar than nice restaurant. ..but wasn’t disturbing. We didn’t had table reservation, but we could fit in well. Terrace has nice views to lake. ..and especially on Friday night in early august there was quite a lot of people passing by. Dinner was nice and good value for money. I can recommend local food e.g. vendace.

Last time

After very long wait we finally got our food even though we had made dinner reservation and the restaurant wasn't that busy. The waiter said nothing about the delay. Main course was cold and the fish didn't have enough salt. Nobody asked if the food was ok, so we didn't get a chance to ask for salt. Poor service, poor quality of food and definitely not good value for your money. Will not eat in this restaurant again. The view to the lake was nice.

I was going to the opera

Slow and unmanaged service. In the beer restaurant, I had to ask for a forgotten beer a couple of times. Some of the dishes on the menu were not available at 4 p.m. Also, some of the brewery's beers had run out, which is incredible. Midsummer and a tourist town, it should come as no surprise that there are customers. Ranked 2nd among the city's restaurants, overrated. Disappointed

Best grilled food in Savonlinna

Exxelent grilled meal/dinner This would be worth of full 5 stars as this is ideal place if everyone in group likes grilled food (as nothing else is served). Due missing salads I had to drop points a bit. In a middle of Finnish winter, dark and yes, snowing weather, grilled food is maybe the best choice but this is deffinately woth to try. Deserts, list is short and due creme brulee was temperarily ”sold out” only icecreams were availble and in December in Finland you may want to try something else. Anyway, in my books, worth to stop if you like grilled food.

Early dinner for two couples

Booking by phone didn't work. First courses excellent. Main courses varied. Too salty fish, good beefs. Seasonal veggies from the grill excellent. Deserts good, nice setup with carrot cake. Excellent fluent service.

Fantastic place

I had a great dinner experience here in Waahto restaurant in the last December. Atmosphere was cosy and warm, food was really delicious and the service was top also. I highly recommend this place to have a great evening with tasty food and friendly hosting. Local beers were nice surprise!

Great food in central place of Savonlinna, with a beautiful view over the marina. We got superb service from a nice, tattooed waiter. He even spoke some Swedish :) we'd love to come back again. Tammisaari says thank you!

Not worth for money

Poor steak and expencive. Hot redwine. Not worth for money. Service at warm terrace was friendly anyway. Hope burgers and beers better.

No friendly or relaxed summer feeling

Hot summer day, but the service was slow and unfriendly. It took ages to order drinks and despite 80% empty tables on the non-smoking dining half, we were escorted to smoking area with full ashtrays and dirty tables
