Perhaps the best restaurant in Finland?

We recently ate at Bistro Holvi and we were all thoroughly impressed. Just a stone’s throw from the Mikkeli Market square where there were plenty of restaurants to choose from, we were glad we decided to walk a bit further and find this gem of a place. We were a larger group (2 families) and everybody, including the children, were raving about the food. Some of us had the fantastic prix fix which also came with a vegetarian or a vegan option. All the roasted vegetables were grilled and seasoned to perfection (all produce come from local farmers). The children’s meals were a feast for the eyes and frankly we’ve never seen a prettier plate before! It was a stark contrast of the usual servings of fried nuggets and fries. For the carnivores out there, the 20 hour braised beef is must try. It will literally melt in your mouth. The french fries were a delicious add on to the meals as was the green side salad with bits of fennel and peas in the mix. The service was prompt and friendly and we would give this place a 10 star review if we could! We will definitely come back next time we are in Mikkeli. This was our culinary highlight of the Summer, if not the whole year’s!

Perfect Saturday lunch

Three course lunch served to table. Really fresh ingredients and tasteful food. The portions were good sized, no fear that you have to leave feeling still hungry. Atmosphere was pleasant and calm in brick vault style small hall. In street level though with small covered terrace. We can recommend and will surely come back.

Very good reason to visit Mikkeli!

The BEST value for a dinner for a long time. My choice was two starters, 20h beef and a dessert. The beef was truly a hero dish, as some may say here in local language, perkeleen hyvää! Even more important than this was that my wife, being vegetarian, was very pleased with her veg dishes. Three starters, two mains, two desserts, two glasses of Champagne and a glass of red 120€. Quality+taste+plating+ very nice timely service vs price = bargain! Will visit again!

Fantastic food

Best fish (kuhaa kahdella tapaa) I've had in long time. My girlfriend enjoyed her 20 hrs cooked beef too. Only the fries served as side were bit too salty for my taste. Excellent value for dinner!

Food was great, staff very friendly and they were able to recommed perfect wine for the food. The athmosphere is also nice but not too fancy. They are changing their menu quite often so if there´s something you absolutely want to taste again, make sure they´re still serving it :)

Overall very good restaurant experience

The restaurant interior was very nice and the staff was friendly and welcoming. They had tasting menu for kids which was fully blown nice flavors and beautiful dishes. Never seen such a commitment to children portions anywhere before. We had tuna and chicken which were both very good as well. Almost a 5/5 and affordable compared to many same quality places. Will definitely visit this place again if in Mikkeli.

Friendly service in a nice, cozy restaurant. Great wine list! We ordered a steak for the main course, which was nicely done. However, the deer was a disappointment as the meat was more or less inedible due to severe overcooking in sous vide. However, we were compensated by way of free desserts.

Good food and friendly service

Before the theater Menu vault. The portions were tasty and there was so much food that you couldn't even eat it all. Good flavors and the price of four dishes is only €49. The wine recommendation matched well with the main course.

Cozy little restaurant with heavenly taste and a good service

The restaurant is cozy and fairly small in size. The service is first class and personnel are friendly. The food is so good, that this place deserves Michelin agents to pay a visit! If you happen to be within 100km range, I would highly recommend to try their offering. Once again, the taste is simply fantastic!

Memories of Mikkelis best restaurant

Cozy place near the local theatre. Great service. But the food was dissapointing. The tartar was hidden under vegetables and you could see why. It was brown. The friendly waiter ecplained that it was made beforehand. That explains why it came so quickly after ordering. Why oh why? The white fish was cooked to perfection but way oversalted. The first and the secon course were so bad that i forgot the wintery dessert that i ate in the middle of the finnish summer. It was good Please bring the old Holvi back!

Perfect lunch for a day trip

I had a fantastic Saturday lunch here. As a starter, there were soup and small dishes along salad buffet. The salad buffet was very good in quality and taste. The main course, salmon was served to the table and it was delicious. Even the dessert was just right. Highly recommend this place.

Worth while to visit.

Excellent food and excellent service! So happy. Definitely a restaurant we would love to visit again. Everything was so, so tasty and a complete symphony of flavours. The wine suggestions were definitely complimentary to the food we had. Strongly recommend!

Excellent prize-quality. I would even paid more,because food was so excellent. Very beautiful portion and "fine-dining" taste,but ok prize. Very good aperative drink,which was their own drink. There was also enough food and very polite service.

Had lunch at this lovely restaurant. Great risotto and super smooth lunch soup. Very good food for the price. I would love to visit this place for actual dinner too.
