Vesikioski (or Vesibaari) means a water kiosk. In the 19th century there weren't water pipes in Joensuu and water was sold to people from water kiosks. Nowadays you get both water (free), special coffees, tea, iced tea, soft drinks, beer, cocktails, wine and sparkling wine...from Vesikioski. Also food is available, including breakfasts (from Monday to Saturday at 7.30 AM - 10.30 AM), salmon soup, salads, bagels, French fries, nachos, potato chips, pop corns etc. However, pullavohveli (or puhveli by the nickname) is the specialty of Vesikioski. I really recommend pullavohveli. Literally it means a bun waffle and actually it is a bun slice which is cooked in a waffle iron. A portion includes two bun waffles, ice cream and 2-4 side dishes. You may choose ice cream and side dishes (e.g. bananas, strawberry jam, apple-cinnamon jam, vanilla sauce, honey, cholate sauce, Nutella, kinuski/toffee sauce, agave syrup, salted nuts, coconut flakes, marshmallows etc.) yourself. You have to try this at least once when you are visiting Joensuu. This is "the must", I think. Besides, the fenced summer terrace with parasols is a very cozy place. This is an excellent way to enjoy a sunny summer day!More
