The outdoor tables were tempting, but it was a bit chilly in the evening so we moved inside, to an area which was almost like sitting outside. Really nice! We had really quirky cocktails and enjoyed the delicious dishes. The summer pizza menu sounded really...tempting, but other dishes won this time.More

Our group visited the Teatteriravintola in Joensuu in July 2020. We chose the restaurant based on positive feedback from friends. The menu was simplified but offered delicious and interesting options. The summer menu focused heavily on pizzas, but with a Nordic flavor. We had a...basic Margarita-, Pork with truffles- and Reindeer pizzas. Some special sorbets for dessert. The final bill was close to 130,00 euros, but the location was lovely and food was surprising in the most positive way with some exciting flavors. Well worth the try.More

What a terrible pizza in the summer terrace. Even the supermarket pizzas beat these. The staff was really nice, I feel so sorry for them having to serve this kind of food. Pizza was tasteless and all the things that can go wrong in pizza...were done here. The premises, the location, the staff all are wonderful, how can they fail the food? Please, do something - have a serious talk with the person responsible.More

Joensuun Teatteriravintola catered for our two-day event of nearly 150 people and we also visited it on a normal lunch day. The restaurant is located in a historical building and the atmosphere is nice and cosy. The food was excellent: it was praised by our...attendees, had local flavours and really tasty options for vegetarians. On top of everything the staff is friendly so in every way this place is great value for your money. Highly recommended for a quick lunch or a bigger event!More

I came to Joensuu with my wife by boat from Järvisydän in Rantasalmi, that means around four hours lake cruise. We decided to test “adhoc” Teatteriravintola and we were really positive surprised - really the food is not only excellent prepared but also master chef...Mikko Hiltunen and his team have put best efforts for planning different menus, starters and main dishes. We had as a starter white fish tartar which was very slightly grilled and wagame plus, spelt flat bread...... fantastic! As main food we wanted to continue with fish, perch file with cauliflower pure, grilled cauliflower with pickled radish - this followed the same beauty of quality than the starter! Vine list we didn’t check but at least our favorite Riesling was offered. We had already in advance agreed to have desert at our boat, so maybe next time full menu. Service was very professional and friendly - special thanks to Toni.More

We assembled our own combinations instead of finished menus: whitefish tartar and slow-cooked mutton or perch fillets as main course. The whitefish tartar promised a lot for the evening: the fresh cut into small pieces with small mayonnaise sauce and lemon gel droplets and decorated...with violet flowers: a beautiful and tasty, but a really small portion. The main course perch was well prepared, with no special flavors, "very lame" was the not so enthusiastic comment. Yes, the mutton was said to be rich in fat when ordered, but there are limits to everything. The sheep raw material was just inferior. Of the Approximately 80g of pieces of meat the better contained about 45-50g of meat and connective tissue, the worse less than two table spoonfuls of meat, the rest fat and slimy membranes. As an addition, about 2 tablespoons per se of well made barley-“risotto”. This costed 32 euros! Interestingly, the spelt dry bread stick (about a pencil thick and 5cm long) was on the tartar when it was supposed to be on the mutton in the menu, and I think the dairy foam was not in the mutton dish. We didn´t try the desserts then, we felt like having had enough.More

Had dinner, on a Tuesday night in March and certaily not crowded! The service was impeccable, and the food was good, albeit not excellent. I had just main, for which I selectel Highland sirloin, which had the taste correct, but the meat didn’t feel quite...as fresh as I would have expected, gave the impression of having spent just a little too long in the freezer, but I could be wrong. Served with potato and marinated carrot, of which the latter was outstanding. The wine recommendation, Portugese, was excellent. Had just a doppio to finish it all off, and disappointed that they didn’t have Grappa. But, all-in-all, good, and price-wise acceptable. Best is perhaps the building, which must be one of the oldest in Joensuu, a magnificent ex town hall built by the Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen. I bet, in the summertime this would be the number one in Joensuu. After dinner, or before, take a walk to the river, which is just behind the building!More

The competition for lunch customers is fierce and prices remain very reasonable. This place offers very good value. They’ve got a nice deck/terrace outdoors to enjoy at summertime.
