The restaurant is situated in the town center on a perhaps not so charming corner. Interior is modern dark styled. It has an out door terrace, with some street noise. Nice and warm atmosphere. The chairs are too hard, though for 2-3h dinner. The kitchen...is sharp and precise, the ingredients are mainly locally sourced. Kielo is on level with the best restaurants in Helsinki. It’s leaning towards a light and green food profile and it made me think of the great Finnjävel. Michelin entry class if they would ever drop by in Joensuu. And they should. Kielo is definately worth a detour.More

The venue ambience is one of the best in joensuu, but the food and drink combination were far from being good. Although they had some nice dry wines they do not complement the food well enough. The non alcoholic version was even worse and consisted...of plum juice, plum juice, red currants, and lemonade in fire different courses. The flavouring of the food was bland, and the menu was mainly smoky flavour for the winter, but there wasn't much variety in the food. For nouvelle cuisine, the chefs need to know the softens between vegan diets and non vegan diets. It started off well, but ended up quite terribly. Finally, on my visit, I found what looked like a bit of hair on my hot main course. The dish was taken away, with an explanation that it was the root of the vegetable, but wasn't given any other food. The plum juice combination (look up Google for its effects) was not good at the beginning of the 2.5h dinner, so we rushed off to sort our stomachs. In the busy place, the staff are under trained, and this comes at a lot of expense. At times, we are left wondering if cooking college could be better than this.More

We had family dinner with 9 years old daughter. We made table reservation about 1 week before our visit, but it seemed that restaurant wasn’t full when we arrived. Service in restaurant was fluent and nice. There was practically two menu’s; with meat or vegetarian...version. We chose menu (with meat) also with wine menu. Restaurant was positive surprise to us. All dishes were really delicious and made from fresh increadients. Maybe best was traditional vegetable soup cooked in milk with butter. ..but menu didn’t had any weak links, which doesn’t happen too often while having several course menu. Wines were easy going wines and matched well with foods. Dinner took abt. 2,5 hours, so it’s no fast food. This is restaurant for people who value good fine-dining food and are willing to spend some time and money. I really recommend having nice dinner here!More

The restaurant only have 1 menu but it is absolutely excellent. The portions are a little bit to big so watch out not to eat to much of their super tasty bread. Service very good and professional. Interesting wines. Restaurant atmosphere calm and cosy with...a few tables outside on the terrace.More

There’s something extraordinary and wonderful when one finds a superb place. In many ways, having Kielo in Joensuu is perfect. The building is wonderful inside and basically un-noticeable from the outside. A well-deserving-of-Michelin-star seven course menu for €57 is practically a miracle. A ‘poor-persons-Noma’. There...are only two choices - with or without fish/meat. One of the few times where I’ve thought Michelin star quality was special. And more than expensive foam and silly herbs plucked with tweezers.More

Third time In Kielo in the last few years and by far the most special experience. Dishes were prepared from mostly local ingredients in the most virtuose manner. Both regular and vegetarian menus were stunning! Home made breads were a delicious addition. Wine match was...great, non-alcoholic drinks match perhaps requiring a more adventurous mindset, very interesting nonetheless. Overall, a truly unique fine dining experience for a reasonable priceMore

I ate at Kielo with a large group of colleagues. We had a really delicious meal that was also so interesting. We had the 4 course prix fixe with paired wines (and paired home made juices for those who don't drink alcohol). The prix fixe...included vegetarian options. All of the food was delicious and really unique - smoked butter was a new one for me! And the chef came out and explained each dish. Service was wonderful. If I find myself back in Joensuu I will eat there again for sure!More
