Overall the food in Stockholm was fantastic so we were a bit disappointed that our dinner at Ardbeg seemed average. Certainly the range of dishes was nice (moose, reindeer) and the waitstaff friendly and helpful, but it the flavors were a bit muted, the crowd a bit too loud, and the whole place felt a bit formulaic (which I supposed... When we entered I was very unsure of this place as it is a bar and it does have an over powering smell of whisky and beer. But once we got inside and saw the restaurant I felt more comfortable about eating here. The food actually was really tasty and the service very friendly and helpful. They seem to try... More

Biff Rydberg and beef filet was of the best quality meat! The food was really delicious and the service friendly and competent. And if you like a huge selection of whiskies and broad selection of micro brewery beers, this is the place!

Me and my friend spontaneously ran into this place in the old town. Turned out I be delicious with its own special home made bread and butter, super herring platter though I am being Russian never used to like it... and fair glasses of wine😉 and salmon perfectly cooked😋

We visited Ardbeg Embassy the first day we were at Stockholm. To us, the potions were large and the menu covers most dishes that 'tourists' like ourselves would like to try. The dishes were nice but unfortunately I didn't find them surprising. Conveniently located in the Gamla Stan, would recommend for couples or large group. They also have a large... More

Had a lovely meal here - one waitress totally ran off her feet but ever courteous. Fab beer (California Lager - more than a lager) and strange music mix for the restaurant. E.g. Elaine Paige and Britney in what is basically a restaurant for vikings (one behind the bar). All in all - excellent and odd!

Delicious moose with potatoes. A must for the whiskey lover. I'm not, but I had a beer and had a delicious dinner. My husband loved the whiskey tasting. Whiskey is charged my the cL, that gives you the opportunity to try new whiskeys or expensive ones. He was happy and I was too.

Good Swedish restaurant located in old town. Large choice of meals and beverages (the list of beers and whiskys is very impressive). Prices are quite correct.

Came for lunch after checking the reviews and quickly realised we should have gone to Max. French fries were all sodden, coleslaw was straight from a supermarket and the burger was average at best. There are typical fast food bars serving tastier burgers, the bun was inedible. The staff wasn't exactly friendly either. A nice backwards clock on the wall,... More

Super cool atmosphere. Great food especially for a place that specializes as a whiskey bar. Shrimp toast app was great. Entrees - beef and fish - tremendous. They actually forgot to bring my entree but we're very apologetic and quickly rectified the situation. Highly recommend.

Thank Scott G

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
