Quaint and fun, lots of history and charm. A nice range of snacks and cakes. If you want a tea break this is a good choice.

In the heart of the old town lays Sundbergs konditori, a classic old café with a royal interior design. Very crowded and popular, so make sure you get a seat before you order. Not a very relaxing atmosphere but great for a coffebreak.

This is my favorite cafeteria in the Old Town where my office is also situated, just on the same square. I like so much those polish ladies who run this oldfashioned traditional cafeteria with traditional Swedish cakes and coffe in small cups as it used to be years ago. These type of cafeterias are not so common anymore in Stockholm,... More

A beautiful cafe located in Old Town. We had the hot chocolate and an apple pastry. It was so decadent. The hot chocolate with whipped cream was so velvety. The apple pastry was delicious.

Several years ago, a Swedish friend told us that this place had the best hot chocolate in Stockholm. That may be true; I haven't done extensive research. While they advertise baked potatoes and lasagna, I suspect that most of their customers come for coffee, tea, or the hot chocolate and a pastry or tart of some kind. We enjoyed the... More

A nice cafe in the old town, serving lunch as well as cake. We had cake and tea, both of very good quality, however the price was quite high. But the nice atmosphere was worth the stay. Helpful & friendly staff.

I would say this place is good for grandmas and grandsons and granddaughters, who want to spent an hour or two together. I guess, it is also good for a girl company. It is a sweet shop, where for 40 krona you get a cup and you can refill it. The place was packed and were coming in all the... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
