We took a Swedish couple here for dinner as a thank you. The food was really good, and they assured me it was very authentic. We all had something different, and all agreed it was well cooked. We also tried the local beer and desserts. The prices are on the upscale side, but everything in Stockholm is pricey for Americans.... More

Tennstopet billed as one of the places to eat traditional Swedish food. We opted for meatballs, sausage and the herring plate. Good size portions and tasty food. Good service from waiters who all speak English (as does everyone in Sweden). They have a good range of craft beers and ales.

Had a loveley lunch here and would highly recommend it if you are in the area. It is quite crowded at lunch hours, but there should not be a problem getting a table for 2-4 persons. Prices are above average, but so is the food, so all in all I would say it is worth the price.

We arrived in Stockholm just in time for drinks and dinner. We had flown in from the US and wanted to have authentic foods and drinks from the area. The hotel recommended Tennstopet and said we could eat in the bar area without reservations. It was a hilly, windy and cold 15 minute walk to the restaurant, so upon arriving... More

I go to Tennstopet sometimes for lunch and it's of good quality. It's not one of the cheaper places for lunch around Vasastan and the portions are not very big. Service is good though and food is always tasty if you are into typical Swedish food.

Old style restaurant with traditional menu. Really good food and service. The goose menu served in the fall season is great. Slightly different from the average restaurant in its old style, slightly worn decor and with its traditional menu.

This is a great place for good Swedish food. We ordered the herring platter for two and two main courses. But after the herring platter we cancelled because it was so much food - that and a few beers made for a very good meal. Other specialties were meats and poultry. Good desserts. The atmosphere is nice and informal. Excellent... More

This restaurant feels very genuine and authentic. Heard that its been there since the 60s. Swedish husmanskost at lunchtime. Had a lovely Toast Skagen with lots of shrimps. A nice neighbourhood feeling. Worth a detour.

They REQUIRE you to take off your coat even when you tell them you're still cold and then they charge you 40kr to get it back. NOT a happy customer.

A truly classic Stockholm restaurant with 150 year old traditions. Wonderful interiour. Food is good. However my peppersteak was medium-rare instead of rare as ordered. The Cognac sauce was excellent though. Somewhat pricey. A bit irritating that you have to leave your jacket in the wardrobe paying 20 SEK.

Staying in Vasastan

Neighbourhood Profile
Vasastan
Vasastan is one of those neighborhoods that almost looks too good to be true. It has the winning combination of a central location, tranquility, and beautiful buildings – housing sophisticated bars and eateries – that makes this neighborhood Stockholm’s most sought-after place to live. If walking through this area makes you feel like walking through a fairy tale or picture book it’s no surprise, as it’s actually the film set of the famous Swedish children story Karlsson-on-the-Roof. No matter what season, Vasastan manages to impress in the sunshine, covered in snow and won’t even lose its charm when soaked in rain.
