Off the busy and crowded alleys of the old town, this restaurant sits in a beautiful garden with pomegranate and lemon trees all around you. The setting is very picturesque (altough keep in mind that it overlooks a big square where kids and youngsters will...play till late in the evening) Come here if you aim to leave the crowds behind, be immersed in a Mediterranean atmosphere and if you are looking for something a bit more elegant than the average taverna. The service is on point, the food is great and the menú more refined than your avarage restaurant. Definitely recommend the "Fresh Cretan Pasta" which offers an Italian twist using fresh Bottarga on top. Do not feel shy to ask recommendation for Cretan wines, the owner will be delighted to point you in the right direction. Of course the price is above the usual taverna, but the quality and the refinement of the dishes is worth the extra.More

Food was brilliant. Octopus with fava was a favourite. Service was good in parts. The man who appeared to be the manager was a bit aloof. Toilets could be cleaner. The bins overflowing and there was no toilet paper

We have been twice to this restaurant now, the food is fantastic, sardines, kleftico, prawn risotto all stand out dishes Worth booking ahead as it is very popular, especially if you want to sit in the beautiful lemon garden I would say it is very...good value compared to other restaurants in Rethymnon of similar standard Looking forward to our next visit this eveningMore

Food is of a good standard hence the reason we returned for a second time, however this will be our last ever meal here. My husband and I ordered several dishes to share and upon ordering specifically asked for our wine with the olives to...start and the other dishes to be brought out slowly as we were in no rush and prefer to eat our food slowly. All the food including the olives arrived at the same time within 10 mins of ordering, we explained we had asked our food as described above, an unconvincing sorry was uttered and all the food left on the table. We had ordered a bottle of wine and water which were no where to be seen, so we waited and ended up having to ask for our drinks, another unconvincing sorry, the wine eventually arrived, still no water so again had to ask. Staff refused any eye contact and seemed to avoid us when we tried to ask for the bill as quite frankly we couldn’t wait to leave and our evening was completely spoiled. We asked to speak to the Maitre De to explain the events and were offered a complimentary glass of wine, we explained we just wanted to leave, he then tried to offer a raki (everyone is offered this!), again we said we just want to leave. We spent a considerable amount of money at this restaurant over the 2 visits and were extremely disappointed with the service, attitude of staff (one barged behind me to return a high chair without uttering a word or an excuse me) and the lack of any acceptable resolution, we rarely feel the need to complain but this experience completely ruined our penultimate evening. We visit the area annually and will most certainly not be returning again, so very disappointedMore

Took me a while to recover from this experience before writing the review… A huge disappointment! We have been twice before but this year there is no service. None of us, including my 70-year old father, can recall a worst service experience. In a table...of 10, we counted an almost equal number of different waiters with hardly any communication between them. Huge delays in the service and lack of common sense.. when we asked for the dessert menu, a different waiter arrived with an ice cream platter instead. He was anxious as there was no space to leave it, since our table was full with empty plates no one had taken for quite a while, so instead of taking a few away, he decided to leave the platter on top! On the other hand, the chef is great with the majority of plates being very good, but he/she cannot be supported by this service. The maitre was exceptionally polite when we raised a concern, but the owner that later also joined, was rude and rather intimidating, so we won’t be retuning. Hope they start to respect their customers (I can see similar reviews already on TripAdvisor) as it is a shame for such a lovely setting with a very good chef. .More

I visited Lemonokipos last night with my father and partner... It was the best restaurant experience I have had thus far in Crete! From the delicious food (amazing wine list as well) to the excellent service (I highly recommend Denya as your server!), we had...such a beautiful time and would definitely come back. Also, lovely greetings on Marios, the owner of the restaurant, who came to our table to greet us. Thank you so much for the unforgettable evening! Also, you must order the lemon tart as a dessert - it's perfect!More
