one of the few downtown restaurants... (by the central market) worth of bearing the trip advisor indication. Early 20th century grandma's kitchen, top quality meats and vegetables from the market, value for money *****. Live music thrown in for free. Must try cooked entrees

Location-wise it is a unique establishment. An 'a la Grinzing' enclosed and roofed years with commodious outcrops dressed in yellow green. Young conversant waiting and long hauls in terms of working hours. Thursday onwards quality small 'rebetico' type music ensembles offer fine services residing in a cave type receptacle. The food is colourful but 'unequal'. The mustard dressed salad is... More

If you are interested in Greek cuisine, you might not find a menu as extensive and unique -- with with MANY cooked entrees and side dishes. It took me awhile to decide (and the server was very pleasant and helpful), but I finally settled on delicious stewed snails and a salad of black-eyed peas with chopped red peppers and parsley.... The food in Klimataria is the most original and tasteful greek food you can find in the neighbourhood. The decoration, the live music and the way some dishes are cooked take you back in the thirties. It's packed on Sundays and people keep smoking inside, but you have to eat there!

We were a rather large group all arriving slowly. We enjoyed the music and food very much but the service was slow at points. The prices were cheap and the place is located in a slightly dodgy area.

If you want to taste greek food in a traditional surrounding, this is the place to visit. It's a rare taverna, reminding old days, but with fine delicious food, pleasant service. Unforgettable experience for locals & foreigners!

The evening we arrived, 6 adults, they had "music from the island" ( as they told us). This is less known kind of local music. I love it! some in my group want to leave after few moments... they were 4 amazing musicians. I think that the music was great however it is important to make reservations ahead and ask... More

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
