N37°58.657' E23°44.715' In the chic, stylish and elitist Kolonaki district on the busy Ploutarhou street, this Lonely Planet must-visit restaurant offers excellent homestyle cooking. Decorated as a cosy bistro with tables on two levels, Oikeio meaning ‘homey’, and tables outside on the footpath, allow people-watching without the usual Kolonaki bill. The menus offer great value family-style dishes made with fresh ingredients and Oikeio was awarded the Bib Gourmand classification in Guide Michelin 2020.
In September 2020, we ordered for starters the must praised octopus in vinegar (€9) and the roasted haloumi with basil oil and homemade tomato jam (€7.5). The octopus in vinegar tasted excellent, but the homemade tomato jam, yes jam, from the haloumi dish was delicious. For main courses, we order Greek moussaka with aubergine and minced meat (€10,5) and fresh bream on the grill with fresh carrot (€14). The presentation of the fish may be a bit strange, but the fresh fish was perfectly grilled and tasted excellent. The Greek moussaka was also delicious. The only regret we had was that we followed the waiter’s advice to order a carafe of red house wine. It was a simple and unpretentious red wine, possibly from Spanish origin. Next time, we will select a proper bottle.
Oikeio offers great value delicious food. Very recommended.

I had lunch in this place in Kolonaki. This being the most posh district in central Athens prices are a bit higher than elsewhere.
The restaurant does its best to serve greek food with a twist and I tried chicken meat balls which did not make me happy at all. They were pretty tasteless and drowned in a lot of rather joyless sauce. The ' arab bread' coming with it was bland and missed the point.
The salad I ordered consisted just of some cut vegetables which you can buy in your local supermarket as well.
Service was not welcoming at all.

Amazing place! The food was perfect, tasty and traditional Greek. The staff was kind, always ready to suggest different dishes. Also the location was different from other places, it was cozy and warm. And after all this perfect service I definitely didn't expect to pay such a low price, we ate a whole dinner, full of dishes, and we pay less than 20€!!
You absolutely have to try it :)

Friendly service. Great traditional Greek food. I would suggest anyone go here in Athens for it. Huge portions! I asked the waiter for a half portion of Moussaka and didn't mind paying the full amount but he told me the chef's would just bring out the full portion anyway? A waste, but was delicious all the same.

Just landed in Athens and stumbled upon Oikeio. Couldn't have been happier. We have just had the most wonderful evening here and our waitress Katerina was so so lovely. The tzatziki starter is unreal, highly recommended, I honestly would have been happy with 2 bowls of that for dinner. Pasta dishes were delicious and really big portions for the price.
Overall perfect start to our trip to Greece! Thank you Oikeio team especially Katerina!

Popular restaurant in fashionable Kolonaki with extremely reasonable prices. Excellent variety of genuine Greek dishes, all well prepared and presented in generous portions. Given the excellent quality of the dishes, I was disappointed with the not so professional service and with the fact that they turned off the heating around 10.00pm and (as it was a particularly cold night), we quickly felt very cold and had to put our jackets on and left sooner than expected! Apart from these two observations, if you want genuine Greek cuisine at reasonable prices in a cosy atmosphere, this is the restaurant to visit if in the area.

OIKEIO was our best restaurant in Athens. The staff was extremely nice and funny. Very attentive to even the smallest details.
We had for starters a tzatziki for two. My wife had an excellent moussaka and I had stuffed zucchini. Even though we didn't order desserts we were offered candied cherry with our Greek coffee.
Merci beaucoup.

What a lovely little restaurant! The decor and the set up for starters was amazing, extremely nice set up! We didn’t have a reservation as had just turned up not long after arriving in Athens. The staff were great and were really friendly in recommending food options as there was so much to choose from
We had the roasted aubergine (egg plant) with roasted tomatos, feta and herby oil as well as the meatballs.
The meatballs were a family recipe and were unreal! Served with chips that were both crispy yet fluffy! You can see why it’s such a popular place in a quieter part of the city yet not far from the centre

We visited oikeio restaurant hoping for a pleasant experience, but unfortunately, the staff's rudeness overshadowed any enjoyment. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming, and the service was consistently brusque. It's disappointing when the lack of hospitality tarnishes what could have been a delightful dining experience.
The excessively loud music made it challenging to enjoy our meal, and when we politely asked the manager to lower the volume, their reaction was incredibly rude.
Regrettably, our dining experience was further marred when we discovered a hair in our food. This unsettling incident not only impacted our enjoyment but also raised concerns about the restaurant's cleanliness and attention to detail in the kitchen. It's disheartening when such lapses in hygiene overshadow the potential for a positive dining experience.
Adding to the disappointing experience, not only did we find a hair in our food, but the restaurant also failed to rectify the situation by removing the dish from the bill. This lack of acknowledgment and resolution further underscored the subpar customer service we encountered during our visit. It's disheartening when basic expectations of hygiene and rectifying mistakes are not met.
Our visit took an unexpected turn when we were abruptly asked to leave, seating another reservation. We had been informed that there were slots but that day the center was closed and with demonstrations and therefore I called personally to inform that we will be late. They didn’t mention anything. We arrived at 8.10 pm 10 minutes after the reservation. The lack of consideration for our dining experience and the seemingly rushed approach left us feeling unwelcome. It's disappointing when customer satisfaction takes a backseat to operational constraints, especially without prior notice or accommodation or offering an alternative solution. This is the worse experience we ever had both for regarding the food quality and of course the service.
Please feel free to see my other reviews to know I am not a habitual complainer.

Hello Mrs Elina Vlahou, first of all you called us to make a reservation for four people and we informed you that we have a table availiable until certain time (you had 2,5 hours available )so you agreed about the time limit so it’s not our responsibility that you came
10 minutes late because of construction in Athens (we do not rule the roads ,sorry) to YOUR reservation , while we are serving you you were saying what a beautiful restaurant and what a beautiful Servis we have but when we informed you that you have to leave the table because the other reservation came as we were already have been informed you , you were saying that you are having fun and that is our responsibility to fix it and you don’t care about the other reservation ,far for the hair in your food you claimed that we didn’t do anything for it but you didn’t mentioned that you paid by card and we gave you back the money of that plate in cash .
Please do consider all the FACTS when you make a REVIEW be reasonable and true to the review that you are wriitng or else don’t .
We hope you to find the peace on your mind.

This restaurant serving Greek cuisine offers very good value for money. The decor takes some getting used to at first glance, some tables are also outdoors. We were particularly impressed by the Greek salad.

This place was recommended by the Periscope Hotel and it did not disappoint. We ate there twice because the food was so good. Our first dining experience we had the octopus appetizer and the fried feta with honey, the meatballs with a touch of mint spice, and also chicken souvlaki. It was delicious. The portions were a good size and the prices very, very reasonable. We also had wine and chocolate cake for dessert. When we returned the second time, we had to pick the same apps since they were scrumptious. We also had the meatballs (again) and then the pasta with eggplant sauce and eggplants. Boy - it was delicious!!! The servers were friendly and attentive and we enjoyed chatting with Nicholas. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want Greek food that the locals eat.

We had a reservation and liked our outdoor table. Ordering was efficient and that is where the good part of the meal ended. We ordered three courses and discussed timing with the server. Before we had finished the first course, they were trying to clear our plates and take unserved and uneaten food off the table. And then the next two courses arrived all at once before we had finished the first course. There is nexcuse for this kind of timing mishap at a supposedly good restaurant. Food was edible, not great. Very unenjoyable meal and we could not wait to leave.

Lost it's way sadly. We are used to coming here often s a highlight of a visit to Athens/Kolonaki, but somehow it has lost that 'certain something'. The service was more than perfunctory, we walked in on a slow February night and when asked if we had booked, (we hadn't) , we were told to 'Sit There'. Water immediately arrived - no thanks, we'd had enough for one day and then nothing. Food was OK to a point. The lamb was very boney and greasy and the egg/lemon sauce barely detectable under all the chicory. The mashed potatoes were plentiful and delicious but sweet potato not potato. The general impression was that everyone that works there is bored.

I am not sure how this restaurant made it on the Michelin guide. While the interior of the restaurant was quaint and uniquely decorated, all other aspects of our visit were poor. Right from the start, we received a cold welcome from the staff when there was confusion over our reservation. The name had been transcribed wrong and it took several minutes of back and forth to come to the conclusion that we had, in fact, made a reservation. The restaurant was almost empty, so I’m not sure why it was even an issue.
Service was poor, with no recommendations on daily specials.
We ordered the chickpea and tomato stew, the seabass, and the grilled mushroom. Of the three, only the mushrooms were of any quality the fish was either old or cooked very improperly. It had a very offputting rubbery texture, and didn’t hold a candle to some seabass we had on Paros a few nights prior. The chickpeas were okay, but it was a massive “family style” plate and shouldn’t have been considered a “main”, as, after a few bites, I was ready for something else.
At the end of our meal, the waitress asked if we wanted to leave a tip. This was the first time in Greece I didn’t feel like one was justified. A pretty poor experience for a Michelin recommended restaurant.

Kolonaki / Lykavittos
By far the ritziest neighbourhood in town, Kolonaki is home to most of the chic boutiques and designer label stores. Here, the wealthy say no to austerity by dressing in their finest and spending hours in the trendy cafés around Kolonaki Square, sipping the most expensive coffee in Europe. The area also contains a couple of notable museums and cultural institutions, which add to the air of nobility. The leafy upper reaches of Kolonaki transition into Lykavittos Hill, the highest point in central Athens. Climb the paths through its wooded slopes to the tiny chapel at the top, from where you are rewarded with stunning views across the Acropolis to the sea and even the mountains of the Peloponnese on a clear day. The wooden amphitheater up here hosts regular concerts during the summer.
