Great food. We had spinach and squid, fava beans, sardines, fried calamari and se Greek salad. We could look at he food in the kitchen and choose. This place has no sign and you almost miss it if you don't know where it is.

I love this restaurant. It is a local's delight. The food is authentic Greek fare and the prices are very reasonable. I try to come to this restaurant every time I visit Athens. Try the veal with rice or fries. All of their fish is fresh and delicious.

If you're looking to escape the tourist scene and/or planning to ride the funicular, look no further...this is your place to eat! Clearly they have been around a long time, 1923. Much of the clientele we observed during our lunchtime, midweek visit seemed like regulars from the surrounding businesses and neighborhood. The cuisine was of a high standard and the... More

Filippou, an old taverna-restaurant renovated to serve the local clientele, is synonymous with first quality greek food. Good service form experienced waiters, attention to serve a selection of various meals every day, so that frequent clients can enjoy a variety of plates. Perfect in his category.

Eating at this restaurant, operating from 1923, you get the impression that your mother is cooking in the kitchen. Used to be my lunch restaurant for many years as the food quality is impeccable and the prices of the different plates are reasonable. I suggest it for lunch time all year around and for diner during spring and summer time... More

We came to this traditional Greek food for dinner. The service is fast. The food is home cooked, delicious. The prices are very reasonable. A great place for a simple delicious healthy meal. We liked in particular the artichokes a la polite, the favs beans and the baked aubergines.

i loved everything i ate there and i have been going back time and again. From the fish to the casserole dishes, from the boiled veg to the pulses. All deliciously cooked. Nothing special atmosphere wise. A word of caution - choose to sit inside the airconditioned room rather than outside on the terrace and not because of the heat... More

We had dinner with colleagues at Filippou and was absolutely perfect. Variety of traditional main dishes and starters, all very tasteful. Really liked the fried fetta cheese with honey! Also at very reasonable prices. Definitely recommend it if you're looking for a nice cosy place to have dinner with friends or colleagues.

A friend recommended, this restaurant for either lunch or dinner. We decided on lunch, we caught a cab from our hotel and it was a 5euro fare, and we were able to walk back afterwards. Its owned and managed by a husband and wife team and has been in operation since 1923. We explained we wanted to taste traditional Greek... More

Staying in Kolonaki / Lykavittos

Neighbourhood Profile
Kolonaki / Lykavittos
By far the ritziest neighbourhood in town, Kolonaki is home to most of the chic boutiques and designer label stores. Here, the wealthy say no to austerity by dressing in their finest and spending hours in the trendy cafés around Kolonaki Square, sipping the most expensive coffee in Europe. The area also contains a couple of notable museums and cultural institutions, which add to the air of nobility. The leafy upper reaches of Kolonaki transition into Lykavittos Hill, the highest point in central Athens. Climb the paths through its wooded slopes to the tiny chapel at the top, from where you are rewarded with stunning views across the Acropolis to the sea and even the mountains of the Peloponnese on a clear day. The wooden amphitheater up here hosts regular concerts during the summer.
