I spend around 10 weeks a year in Greece. Athens is home base. I eat here often and have become friends with the owners. English is spoken here. The food is old recipe comfort food. Considering the location it is economical and fresh. All the food is homemade and the service good.

Nothing stood out about this place. Food was homemade, but there weren't many dishes to choose from as menu was quite small. We found this to be quite touristy.

We have been in Greece for 10 days and this is one of our favorite two or three places to eat. My husband says it is as good as you can get for the money. The decor is simple but I was immediately taken by the display and description of the food available. We ordered a plate of greens and... More

Right next to the Acropolis there is this small restaurant that serves great traditional food. If you like the fancy tourist restaurants that give you a pretty plate, than don't come here. This is an honest place that serves food without any "fancyness" and I like that. Recommended, but not for every type of tourist.

Just round the corner from 'Restaurant Rat-Run', you can once again find a traditional eating place you have long been searching for. Yes, 'To Kati Allo' ticks all the boxes for friendly owners, traditional food, great atmosphere and convenient location. How nice it is to be taken and shown the display of food and listen to the description of each... More

The owner of the flat we stayed at while in Athens recommended this place to us, and we were so happy that we listened to his advice. Situated a couple of blocks away from touristville, it's in a slightly quieter street, and easily recognizable with the owner (and his elegant little Clark Gable moustache) waiting outside. After he shows us... More

Their rotisserie lamb and chicken are excellent as was the moussaka and the super tasty Greek salad. This is simple home cooking with great ingredients and no taste enhancing shortcuts. The host is very friendly and provides warm Greek hospitality. A nice place to eat and relax just like a true local.

We had a great dinner here just near the acropolis museum, the food was excellent, we had stuffed peppers, chicken roulade and eggplant casserole. I was going to also get a greek salad but the chef recommended we stick with 3 dishes as this would be enough for two and it definitely was. Really great home style food and friendly... More

This is a very nice place with a few outside tables. Evidently it is recommended by Rick Steve. We are not Rick Steve's devotees so we can't confirm that. The owners are super friendly and loves bantering with customers. The rotisserie is going with chicken, pork and lamb. The menu is on the board outside. Prices are very reasonable. The... More

My husband and I came here on our last night in Athens. I wish we had come sooner so we could have had more of this wonderful food. The lamb was some of the best I've ever had and the Greek salad is a must. Our service was the best we've had and the gentleman who served us was pretty... More

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
