My wife and I have eaten at this little family restaurant near Syngama Square in Athens several times over the last 5 trips to Greece. This eatery is family run by Eugenia (the wife, and main cook during daytime hours) and Dimitros (owner and a waiter). I especially recommend lunch here since this is when Eugenia is in the kitchen... More

Like the reviews say, this is a small, basic place. What's missing from other reviews (or perhaps we were incredibly unlucky) is that the food isn't very good. Examples: poor quality olive oil on the table, chips a mixture of undercooked and soggy, meatballs dry and tasteless, gigantes and zucchini croquettes tasting of old oil. I had a really bad... More

This place is cozy and has beautiful tasting authentic food. Their hospitality is great and the staff make you feel special. I had the best Greek salad in my life and a prawn dish in tomato and feta sauce. I loved the advice of eating the prawns of "eat it like the Greeks do...with your hands". Will be back.

I visited the restaurant for lunch! The staff was very welcoming and helpful! They got English menu for tourists! It's close to remarkable places and the prices are reasonable

Situated in Plaka, this traditional little tavern offers a small variety of Greek dishes in almost moderate prices (a bit high I might add for what it's offering). We went there midday and most specials were out. The dishes were tasty, but could be a bit bigger. What it lacks in variety it makes up in quick service. The waiter... More

Sitting outside because inside there are only very few tables. All around there are Greek people eating, which feels good and save. Very friendly and helpful waitress.

We went to this places, as it comes highly recommended on Lonely Planet. This place is indeed a gem. Even at a late lunch hour, this place was crowded. They have limited seating capacity, so expect to wait for 5-10 minutes. But it is definitely worth all the wait!

Small humble restaurant that was frequented by quite a few locals when we had lunch there. It's away from the main tourist attractions so it's a good place to sit down for a quite meal. The food is unpretentious and you get a good taste of the local flavours. We ordered the stuffed tomato and peppers, cod fish with garlic... More

This is a very good well established restaurant, good food, clean and reasonably priced for Athens. Will always be coming here on each visit, yum.

This is a very modest and tiny restaurant on a side street where locals go for lunch. The food is good. The owners still cook and serve. Was one of the best meals we had in Athens. Good choice to avoid the crowded Plaka.

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
