Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I may have hyped myself up with the reviews, but I was not blown away as I expected. It was tasty, but not something I would go out of my way to eat again. We had a number of souvalaki while in Athens and there were may others that I personally preferred.
I got the beef and it kind of tasted like a cheeseburger, which was nice but not what I expected. The ingredients were fresh if a little salty, the bread was ok.
Well priced, the ordering process (as a tourist) was very confusing. You are kind of called by the person inside when your food is ready but no number is given or name taken. You have to pay after you are given your food, which was also confusing - take correct change! It's a more casual approach than I am used to!
Overall it was fine, I would suggest seeking out souvalaki at alternative places. Always worth a Google to see what is around your hotel, or where the places are popular with locals.

We loved this place - very unassuming, on a side street and not much to look at from the outside. But amazing to watch the couple churn out masses of kebabs for the line-up of tourists waiting and for locals coming in for their orders, all cooked on a tiny little grill. And the kebabs were really tasty and fresh. It was fun and the kebabs were really good!

We were lucky enough to get the latest pork souvlaki 🥙 of the day at 14:00 (beef was sold out). So glad we did. So easy yet so good. Only few ingredients :nice homemade bread, pork skewers, red onions, parsley, tzatziki, and some kind of spicy paprika. Perfect 👌 and very cheap

There's a reason this place always has a line up. Featured on many food tours, videos, foodies and more this place doesn't disappoint. Such fresh flavors, made to order, super affordable and filling. We could eat this literally everyday. Perfect amount of seasoning. My favorite gyros in all of Athens!

I am born and bred Athenian and I consider myself a street food lover. This is by far the best souvlaki in Athens and it worths every second of the wait out of the souvlaki house. Maybe the only disadvantage is the limited meat choices (just pork and beef ) but everything in your salty pitta bread is balanced and you get a great overall flavour. Fans of extra spicy flavours should ask the chef-owner for his hot peppers in their souvlaki. A must food destination for anyone who wants to taste an authentic quality souvlaki.

The beef souvlaki (3 euros) is delicious and flavorful! Fresh warm pita bread, tomatoes, greens, red onions, and tzatziki. Popular small hole-in-the-wall that has a long line of locals and tourists. Go early because often runs out of beef (which is better than their pork option. No, they do not have chicken). The current chef is the grandson of the original. Also sells drinks (beer, ouzo, soft drinks). No seating. Best cheap eats in Athens!

You have to plan to go to O Kostas… if you arrive too late, you face the risk to see Kostas being sold out. If you arrive too early, you will have to queue… but once you have the chance to taste the slouvakis, you will discover why so many people are going there…. The taste is fantastic!!!

I just left here about 10 minutes ago with my meal. i do not think it lives up to the hype. First, I ordered a pork and they gave me a beef, Second, The meat was so chewy that after a few bites I had to take out the beef so I could eat the pita part, with tomatoes and some herbs and spices. This was the palatable part of the meal. I didn’t finish it and am now at a bakery nearby, getting a few items for lunch here instead.

Came here after finding it on recommendations of places to get an excellent gyros, so disappointed.
When we first arrived queue was long which got us even more excited as it must be a good place but when we got further up the line we realised their was a queue for tourist and locals were allowed to walk straight in and order... looking after the locals ok get it, but then when watching the portions the locals got compared to the tourist is not ok. There are far better places with the same price and bigger portions.

I have had MUCH by gyros in Barcelona, the US and Santo Domingo. Kebab served with uncooked fries and a spaghetti tomato sauce. We did not finish it. On top of it long wait. This is SURELY the worst dismounted after a few days in Athens and the biggest tourist trap. Do
not waste your time time. From a well traveled gourmet chef who knows a lot about international foods.

We found out about Kostas through YouTube & it was very near the hotel so when we passed one morning at 10+ it was open but we weren't hungry as we just had breakfast.
When we returned later at lunch time there was a small queue of people waiting to order. We didn't bother waiting as the queue didn't seem to shift.
Decided to go back another lunch time & it was surprisingly quiet so we ordered a beef kalamaki & waited outside. It took a while to be prepared & was quite underwhelming when it arrived.
Bread was nice & warm but the beef was actually quite dry when we were expecting it to be succulent.
Overall, we weren't overly impressed. Thankfully we didn't have to wait long or it would have been even more disappointing.

This place is highly rated and there’s always a long line. Family run business with friendly owners. It was not to our taste. The beef was sold out so we Had the pork. Pork was chewy and probably the least flavourful souvlaki we had in Athens. However, the pita bread was amazing, the veggies were fresh and I liked the slight spice in the seasoning. It was a cheap lunch and I think it’s good for the audience they are targeting but I don’t think it was worth the wait in the line. We had more flavourful and tender souvlaki elsewhere in the city.

My husband and I queued for quite some time on a Tuesday at lunch time but the food did not disappoint. We ordered 1 pork souvlaki and 1 beef souvlaki with all the trimmings. When we were waiting the owner spoke with us and shared the family history of the shop.
Note - there is no seating available but plenty of places nearby to perch or lean against whilst munching.

Delicious souvlaki. Went there at 11:00, nonother customers but us. I guess we were lucky. But after 15 minutes, people started coming. We got our order after 9 minutes. We ordered 2 beef souvlaki €6:80 and 1 pork souvlaki €3.20 and a greek soda, €1.50. Total €11.50 the pita taste good and the meat as well. The souvlakis taste as good as the other souvlakis we’ve tasted in Greece.

KOSTAS was an excellent choice for us to experience typical Greek fast food. It is a very traditional place in Athens that is located on the outskirts of Syntagma Square close to the Acropolis. The menu has just one item, Souvlaki - served in pita bread, stuffed with pork or beef and yogurt sauce, red onion, plenty of parsley and spicy seasoning. Arrive early, the queue can be quite long, and the doors close late in the afternoon. Success for generations.

Syntagma
Perhaps the best place to get your bearings is Syntagma Square, crowned by the imposing Parliament building on its upper side and surrounded by other large structures, such as the exclusive Hotel Grande Bretagne. The grand avenues that lead towards Omonia are also full of massive Neoclassical edifices like the Numismatic Museum and those around smaller Platia Kolokotroni. Here you will find lots of travel agents, bookshops and fashion shops, especially on Ermou Street. Just south of Syntagma Square, you can take a breather in the lush National Gardens, which extend into the grounds of the Zappeio palace and beyond to the ancient Temple of Olympian Zeus.
