From the outside the place really doesn't look like much, but luckily we were recommended it by a local. We were late to book, and they went to a lot of effort to allow us to come in early before another booking. Very lovely and friendly staff, with good English, the menu is handwritten and they translate it verbally to... More

Good food, good service. Small but great restaurant... Try the duck rice and the fish soup. Better to make reservations before going there...

I was expecting a well cooked portuguese food. We asked by "Bacalhau à rei dos galos". It was not bad, but far enough from other restaurants with nicely cooked portuguese food. And it was with a lot more salt than one must expect. The restaurant is poorly decorated, the service is correct, but not friendly as usual in Porto and... More

We went there for an anniversary dinner and it was packed with 3 groups. The food is traditional and tasty, definitely a must try and it is not expensive at all.

We ate here twice in 2 days as it was so good. Brilliant local food as mama would make it if she was a cook of note. We ate like kings. Day one was fish soup. So fresh -with dorade. Then bacalhau with eggs, sweet new potatoes, olive oil and parsley. Then the most succulent pork with chestnut sauce and... More

We found this restaurant quite by accident. Walking through the picturesque streets of Porto (looking for somewhere to eat), we came to an inconspicuous door, behind which we opened a Portuguese tale. We were very satisfied with the service and quality of food. Excellent.

Cheap, traditional, and not a trap for tourists. They will serve you excellent white or red wine for a fair price, and excellent, excellent portuguese food: Duck rice, lamb, and unexpected fresh fish because yhe son o the owner, is both a good chef and a underwater fisherman. Ask for the fish and he will show it to you. Very... More

If you want low-key authentic Portuguese food then this is your place. The outside is quite unassuming but take the leap of faith and go inside. We did and were greeted by an old man standing in the foyer. I spoke to him in Portuguese (ok, my Portuguese is far from perfect) and he looked at me like I was... More

One of the most mentioned names when it comes to Porto's most renowned dish, Tripas à Moda do Porto, Rei dos Galos de Amarante has for years remained a true locals place - a small dining room, with just a few tables, old tavern decoration, and plenty of regular customers hanging around. Thursday is Tripas day, and they're among the... More

We went there for the "Cabidela" a typical dish with rice, chicken and its blood. It's amazing! The service it's a little bit slow but the owners are very nice and old. Very cheap!
