We found it by chance wondering on the streets of Funchal. We called and get a reservation for the same night. It wasn't my first Fado experience but, by far the richest. The weiters were, to my great surprise, also singers. But what singers! The...voice of my waitress was one of the best I ever heard in Fado! The food was very tasty, well done accompanied with a very good wine. Prices are higher than you will expect in Funchal and I found on the check a music fee that I wasn't informed on before. But it was an unforgettable experience that worth any penny.More

This is a tiny place (36 seats?) so booking is essential. It combines a small menu (sadly, vegetarians aren't well catered for - if at all) with live fado performances. The twist is that these performances are given by the staff and proprietors, creating an...incredibly intimate feel to the whole experience. When your waiter delivers your food whilst singing a dramatic song you really feel like you are in the middle of a musical! The age range of the performers ranged from pre-teen (granddaughter of the proprietor) to the owner herself (forgive me if I don't guess at her age!). Fado has a reputation for misery, but the music was actually quite varied. And we really enjoyed the food; my steak-on-the-stone was superb, the beef espetada (skewers) were a little tough, but tasty. Overall a wonderful experience.More

We had the best time! The food is delicious - simple recipes but the highest quality and so good. I highly recommend the garlic bread and chorizo. Our group of 8 loved it. The music is beautiful, heartfelt and so engaging. This is a family...owned restaurant, food cooked by family and the Fado sung by three generations of family. Make a reservation (at least 24 hours in advance). The restaurant is small and every seat filled. This was a very special night out. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Obrigado!More

Really nice athmosphere there and the workers were friendly. The live music was very good, staff was very talented in singing and playing the instruments. But the quality of the food was low comparing to the price of it. We had to wait a lot...between the orders because the workers were talking to the customers they knew. And then one thing that made me feel a bit cheated on was when I ordered mussels and the waitress asked me if I wanted salad or french fries with them, like it would be included in the price. I know i could have asked that, but usually it is included or might cost a couple euros more. But in the check it was 8€. So just be careful what you order. But the music was amazing. I wouldn’t recommend going there if you’re not so interested about the fado-music. It’s kind of a one-time experience.More

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner experience at Savor a Fado! The garlic bread was great, as well as the flamed chorizo. Cooking our food "on stone" was fun, too. But, the most fantastic part of the night, and the reason we chose...to eat here while in Funchal, was the music. Outstanding performances by all of the wait staff! Great voices and great service. Make a reservation, get there ~10 min beforehand, and bring cash.More

We went there with 2 kids, for good local food and fado music. We came 15 mins late, the sing part started already, lights gone, very cosy atmosphere, perfect food, very nice service! Truly recommended

We went there primarily to listen to fado and secondary to get some traditional dishes. Music was really excellent. Professional musicians and good voices from the waiters and the chefs. Food was fine, tasted nice, large servings. 5 euros per person was added to the...bill for the music, which we gladly gave. Recommended.More

Forget all the other reviews of restaurants nearby. We had the most fantastic experience at Sabor a Fado. Really small friendly, family run restaurant, with the most talented Fado singers and musicians in Madeira. Food was delicious, service excellent and with a smile. Wine to...die for. You have to book in advance for this fantastic restaurant/Fado experience.More

Found online and booked. Advertised as E20 per head. I mentioned we are veggies happy for some bread and salad. More interested in the family singing. Nice little venue given lovely soup followed by tasteless pasta dish no other choice as they cater for meat...eaters. Wines expensive compared to other venues. Presented with Bill over E80 high was a shock and cash only. Be aware!More

A beautiful, intimate with fantastic food, amazing music and a lovely communal atmosphere. The hosts are friendly, open people, and brilliant musicians. If you are looking for a quiet, cosy meal with just your partner, this may not be for you, but if you want...a great place where you end up chatting with the folk around you, and feeling like you have been part of an event, then this is it. Just fantastic!More

We booked this restaurant as we love fado. We asked if they catered for vegetarians and were assured they had a menu. When we arrived, we were seated in a line with others, very cramped. The only vegetarian meal was spaghetti, which was served with...no sauce, boiled broccoli, carrots and green beans. We asked for a cheese sauce and was given a bowl of grated cheese and told this was not vegetarian (we are not vegan). We again suggested sauce and was given a bowl of white sauce to add to the cheese. By then our meal was cold and congealed. We did not eat this meal. We enjoyed the family fado. Asked for the bill and was told only cash. We had not been forewarned and only had €40 euros cash on us, which covered our beer and garlic bread. We were told to get money out of hole in the wall but we only had credit cards with us. They rudely accepted our cash. A very unpleasant evening.More

The restaurant is quite small and intimate. This seems like a family business who sing Fado but at the same time serve excellent food. The menu is limited, so quality not quantity, but certainly worth a visit for a special night out as a little...more expensive than normal for Funchal. Just be aware that they only accept cash as payment.More

Not sure what passion for fado this family have, but I have seen fado before, and I see it an entertainment evening with a poor service. This is definitely run by a family business where they multitask, i.e. singing fado and being waiters! This lets...me think that they are greedy and no love for fado whatsoever, but love the tourists money! Very expensive meal, and the annoying part is the “Music Tax”! I don’t know what it is, but its a rip off (3 people 15euros)!! Sorry, but be aware of this “Tax”!!More

Meal was delicious! The family service and singing created a fantastic atmosphere, owners were willing to go above and beyond to accommodate travelers who weren't carrying Euro on them so we could creatively pay our bill. Great food, great atmosphere, and great people behind everything!

We were very surprised and delighted to have such a fabulous night. The staff were so friendly. We ordered the tuna and the steak to cook on hot stones. This was served with sauces, salad and potatoes. Absolutely delicious and a big portion. The guiter...and singing were the highlight of the night for me and we would like to say thanks for a great night. Please support this venue if you in the area and want a traditional night.More
