Loved our evening there. An experience that everyone should have. The restaurant arranged transport from our hotel and the very pleasent driver turned out to be Silvia's step-father and head chef. The starter was simple but lovely, the only delay coming coming from the regular musical interludes of excellent Fado from Silvia and her mother and other friends and family with her brother and another friend playing their instruments brilliantly. We had no idea whether we would like Fado. Silvia's family changed that to loving it. The restaurant is quite small with guests sitting closely but within minutes there is a fabulous atmosphere of togetherness through the music. But that means book your place! For our main course we had the tuna steak on a hot rock which cooks it in front of you. It was delicious. I have never had tuna like that and after my visit to the fish market in the morning I expect it was caught the previous night.it came with a lovely salad and chips and three little pots of dressing for both cooking your tuna in addition to the light dressing already on the fish and also with your salad. We couldn't manage a dessert. I saw one I would have liked but it was massive even for sharing after such a meal. We rounded off a great evening with a little shot of Poncha. Wow. Next time we go to Madeira we will be back!

Visited Sabor a Fado on our last night in Madeira (a week earlier than planned due to Jet2 cancelling flights) and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience from being seated through a delicious meal and Fado music throughout the evening. The whole family took it in turns to sing a number of sets during the evening from the Mum through to a 6 year girl who was brilliant. We had the sizzling dishes with a selection of seafood and steak with I can fully recommend, and to have the family singing whilst serving and then to the whole restaurant was amazing. Every visit to Madeira should include a visit here!

I found this place gave agenuine feel for an authentic Funchal cuisine, run by a beautiful family of great service, smiles and significantly badass singing skills. Was a lovely evening meal, highly recommend steak on the stone. House wine is stunning, the starters delicious (bread and dips starter and chorizo). They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable, and we were thrilled that they moved their evening entertainment outside to accommodate a hot autumn evening. Brilliant singers, highly skilled chef and wonderful hosts. Would highly recommend a visit, good all round food, entertainment and hosting.

we have Visited Funchal many times and always receive good service and good food in local restaurants. We decided to try this place as we wanted to listen to some authentic Fado music, the music was fine but the rest of the experience was very disappointing. we ordered the garlic bread platter to share which was ok but did not come with any plates which was strange, we then ordered the chicken skewer which again we shared. as i took the first mouthful the chicken seemed raw so i checked the other pieces, i eventually asked the waiter to check and she said she will take away and re cook it. the same chicken came back including the half eaten one but again the chicken was just not right, very slimy and just did not seem right, by this time our chips were cold so we decided not to eat the meal. we had no apology and even though we did not eat the food we were still given the bill with a 10 euro charge for 4 songs. We would not recommend this place for food as it is terrible, they should stick to singing as they are all good at that.

Really nice athmosphere there and the workers were friendly. The live music was very good, staff was very talented in singing and playing the instruments. But the quality of the food was low comparing to the price of it. We had to wait a lot between the orders because the workers were talking to the customers they knew. And then one thing that made me feel a bit cheated on was when I ordered mussels and the waitress asked me if I wanted salad or french fries with them, like it would be included in the price. I know i could have asked that, but usually it is included or might cost a couple euros more. But in the check it was 8€. So just be careful what you order. But the music was amazing. I wouldn’t recommend going there if you’re not so interested about the fado-music. It’s kind of a one-time experience.

We booked this restaurant as we love fado. We asked if they catered for vegetarians and were assured they had a menu. When we arrived, we were seated in a line with others, very cramped. The only vegetarian meal was spaghetti, which was served with no sauce, boiled broccoli, carrots and green beans. We asked for a cheese sauce and was given a bowl of grated cheese and told this was not vegetarian (we are not vegan). We again suggested sauce and was given a bowl of white sauce to add to the cheese. By then our meal was cold and congealed. We did not eat this meal. We enjoyed the family fado. Asked for the bill and was told only cash. We had not been forewarned and only had €40 euros cash on us, which covered our beer and garlic bread. We were told to get money out of hole in the wall but we only had credit cards with us. They rudely accepted our cash. A very unpleasant evening.

We went last evening and I only looked at the reviews this morning, diverse and the negative ones frankly churlish. It is a small room and we too were sat at the end of three tables for two so could chat to our neighbours if the whim took us, very convivial. I had booked in the afternoon and as risotto was not on the menu, a mariscos was especially prepared and superb. My wife chose the beef on a hot plate, so vast that it kept her quiet for nearly an hour. Every so often the daughter and the young waiter would desert their duties and belt out sorrowful simongs: to the uninitiated this was diverting until Big Mama came out and reduced up to tears. As to the cost, it was comparable to a medium range Gastropub in the UK and hugely better value. We went to enjoy ourselves and had a whale of a time: nothing in this life is perfect but it is short and every day must be enjoyed to the full. Much appreciated

I don’t know much about Fado but I can say that this place was alive with music, passion and warmth when I visited. I didn’t go in with any expectations but I ended up struggling to hold back tears because of the the intensity of the songs. By the end all the diners had made friends with eachother and you could tell that when they return home this will be one of those magical evenings that gets reminisced about. The restaurant also very kindly made me a vegan main and dessert which were wholesome and tasty with lots of different fruit and vegetables.

For anyone reading the review just before this, we were the ‘family’ that the couple were going to be placed next to. Except we weren’t a family at all, just three unrelated pairs who’d all been put on the same large table. It’s a small restaurant, and there’s just not the room to separate everyone. In fact, doing so would spoil the fantastic communal experience of brilliant music, delicious food and making new friends with our table-mates. We saw the last reviewer arriving and the waitress explaining the concept to them, and she wasn’t rude at all. In fact, she and all of the staff were delightful throughout the evening. I think the reviewer and their partner were just put out that the table arrangements weren’t what they were expecting. The family that run the restaurant put heart and soul into it, putting on a real show and cooking up some delicious food. We massively recommend it - it was the best experience of our holiday in Madeira. These are covid times, so some people may not want to be close to fellow diners, but leaving a one star review seems very harsh. If you’re willing to risk meeting people, please give this place a go. It’s worth it!

We made the booking several days in advance so that we could celebrate my husband’s birthday with some fado music. But as soon as we got there, they told us very impolitely that if we don’t eat, we cannot stay. Nobody had mentioned anything about the obligation to eat in advance and there was nothing outside the place to indicate that either. We had just had dinner, so eating twice was not an option. Being thrown out of the place left as feeling that they really were just after money. Managed to hear enough music, so we didn’t miss much after all. Luckily the birthday boy had a good sense of humor.

This was by far the most memorable meal we had in Madeira - gorgeous food in an intimate and atmospheric setting tucked down a street in the old town, served by a lovely friendly and welcoming family whilst they sang, moving traditional Fado songs with powerful and beautiful voices . It’s a really moving experience, topped off by delicious food and wine. I had delicious fresh tuna served sizzling on a hot stone and despite the very short notice they also cooked my partner a delicious vegan dish. It was my favourite night in Funchal and I’d really recommend it for any one who wants a taste of the local history and culture and a lovely meal

The meal was delicious and the Fado music quite entertaining with the hostess singing while looking after and serving the customers. Beef on a hot stone was delicious. You could sit there all night as they were in no rush to have you leave. Would go back for sure.

We went there primarily to listen to fado and secondary to get some traditional dishes. Music was really excellent. Professional musicians and good voices from the waiters and the chefs. Food was fine, tasted nice, large servings. 5 euros per person was added to the bill for the music, which we gladly gave. Recommended.

It is always an experience to spend an evening there. We were there twice in October. They were two wonderful evenings again. If you like Fado, you should definitely spend an evening there. The restaurant is not very big, so I can highly recommend a reservation. The dining room is small, so you can quickly get into conversation with the person sitting next to you. The visitors come from all over the world. We like to get there a little early, so that you have the starter and drinks on the table before the first session. During the course of the evening there are always sessions of 4-5 Fado performances. The singers are usually also responsible for the service in the restaurant. Then it happens that you get your ordered food served while singing. Between the Fado sessions it is "whisky time". Time to chat with the neighbors, order something or go to the toilet. We have never made the wrong choice when it comes to food. We can recommend the tuna steak on a hot stone. The desserts on offer vary and are always delicious. We are almost always the last guests to leave because the whole package is perfect. I cannot understand and cannot relate to some of the negative reviews. It is true that a "music tax" of 5 euros is charged per person. There are certainly cheaper restaurants in the neighboring restaurant mile "Santa Maria", but with the food and the tax you are paying for an experience. A concert is much more expensive and not as family-friendly. Much appreciated

Had booked a table for Saturday night at 7.30. Areived at 7.15 which was good because they filled the tables in the order of arrival, and tha lastcomers had to sit by back the entrance door. All customers are sitting quite close to each other, but it was only good because it created a sense of intimacy. We had good talks with British folks sitting next to us. The performances (3 sets) were clearly indicated by dimmed lights. In between was serving and normal restarant functions. The singers were just great! Especially because they worked as waiters/-tresses all along. They’d serve dishes and pick up plates singing away like they’d be on a vast stage. Their powerful voices were magnificent! Being so close by you could really appreciate their ability. Not that I understand anything of fado but I was fascinated. Food was good too; very interesting items.
