This quaint cafe is just outside the sintra train station. A beautiful, tranquil place to stop after a Day of hiking and sightseeing. The Cuban host was the best, warm and welcoming and made every effort to ensure each customer is happy. I had the traditional Sintra dessert with an americano but the menu is quite broad with a good... More

A true gem of a place in Sintra, we went for lunch and ordered sandwiches which were prepared to perfection with wonderful toppings. The bread is baked locally and fresh. They also have a wide selection of desserts done tastefully. Service is warm.

Was warmly greeted and served by the Cuban host. Peasant panini was best I've ever had. Rich and creamy soup with fresh herbs...you can taste the quality. Fresh loose leaf teas and frothy cappuccinos. Would highly recommend when in Sintra.

I had to look up a translation for the word "saudade" and it is... untranslatable as a single word. But it is the feeling of missing something, and that's the perfect description for my feelings for this place. Saudade is a lovely cafe in Sintra, where the staff are very accommodating even to those of us who have zero Portuguese... More

Good spot for lunch, reasonably priced with great tasting coffee. Appreciated the care taken when I explained I had a nut allergy, making Eating out an enjoyable experience for once.

Description
Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts and other cultural activities.
