Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can. The…
This place has a really nice atmosphere and great food. We were there for a brunch, when no other place in Sintra could offer this. There are many choices in the menu, be sure you try the sandwiches. Nice and helpful employees, clean place!
We had just Landed in Lisbon, taken a train to Sintra and were starving at 10 o'clock in the morning. Almost by accident we stopped in at Saudade and boy were we glad we did! From the great ambiance to the service and beyond this...was a great find! The food was inventive, tasty and plentiful. We highly recommend that you go out of your way (If you have to) to dine here.More
Gorgeous café close to the train station.
I had breakfast here for three days (I was staying at Chalet Saudade) and each day the breakfast was superb!
If you’re staying at the hotel you get a continental style breakfast here at the café, and to...be honest I really wasn’t expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised by how excellent the breakfast was. You get a really substantial breakfast, which was fresh and delicious.
Just want to mention the staff too, who are wonderful. Friendly, welcoming and very attentive.
I did hope to come back and eat here during the day, but unfortunately never got the chance as I was never back in time. Next time though…More
Stopped here, thanks to advise from our taxi driver, when we came down from the castle. What a great retreat! We were lucky to get a table for 8 without waiting for more than a minute or two. Very nice and personal service in a...cosy and charmingly genuine place. Huge very delicious scones, one plate enough for 2-3 persons if you´re not very hungry. Lovely tasteful coffee and well filled glasses of port and brandy.More
Stayed two nights in Sintra and were so lucky that this was right on our doorstep.
It was amazing the food was fresh and plentiful . The staff were really good and fun . 5 people 5 complexed orders and then drinks with out writing...the order down and got it all right 👏👏👏.
Would have gone every day for breakfast if were were there longer. They sell pottery and crafts a third of the price of the larger tourist areas.
Obrigada Sintra we will come again .More
The cafe has a nice vibe and located in the heart of Sintra, we asked for the traditional Portuguese coffee which was brought in a jug (for group of 6) and was really good. Adding to it was simply some pastel de nata that again...was cooked to perfection and this made our experience perfect.More
It is located from a walking distance from the train Station it offer some delicious cakes. I tried an apple cake with dulce de leche it was really good. I recommend this place. Very cosy atmosphere.
Situated right by the train station, it’s the perfect spot to grab a bite to eat before starting to explore the very hilly Sintra. Coffee is average but their homemade cakes make the visit worth it.
After a yellow castle-esque building, this is the first thing you see upon entering Sintra by train. It's store front beckened me in "suadade, vida, arte". And it's a beautiful welcome to Sintra. It's cosy with gorgeous ornate ceilings and lovely floral decorations on the...table. I had a café Suadade made with condensed milk, delicious. They also sell beautiful souvenirs including regina chocolate umbrellas, typical confectionary, ceramic swallows, as well as lovely fairly priced and beautifully wrapped soaps. I took one with propolis. They also sell their own brand teas in cute packaging and have a blend for each season of the year.More
I appreciate a good breakfast and Saudade far exceeded my expectations! The coffee, the fresh OJ, the egg, the ham, the cheese, the fresh fruit, the tomatoes, the avocado, the croissant, the small loaf of bread, the toast, the butter, the honey, the jam, AND...a pastel de nata! Yummers!!!!!!!More

I apologize for not seeing your question before now. I hope if the restaurant was open and you went, you were not disappointed. I know they are usually open on a Sunday. Again, my apologies for not seeing your question prior... More
