My friends and I went here for lunch prior to going to see the palace. We were lucky enough to sit outside in the courtyard at the back of the cafe where it was just the five of us. It was however close enough to...More

Visited this cafe after being at the palace and castle. Had a few Portuguese pastries which were all very nice. We were going to buy a vegetarian wrap or crepe that is on the menu outside however when inside the menu has it scored out...More

We went early evening and had a light snack of a salad and spinach mini pies, one of the few vegetarian things on the menu. Service was very good, mini pies delicious, salad simple but fresh. White wine wasn't pleasant but beer was good. Nice...More

Amazing pastries. We came here for breakfast initially then returned for lunch. Food is delicious and in my opinion, pastries are much better than the more popular places tourists often go to. Highly recommend!!

We stopped for breakfast and were in heaven. Amazing service, friendly fast and helpful. Food was abundant! We were so used to smaller portions we sort of over ordered. Coffee was American sized and delicious. Would have eaten there every day if staying longer.

We had a lunch break here between visiting sights in Sintra. Service was s little slow, but I found this throughout our trip (our first trip to Europe) so I think it is rather common to have a less rushed attitude from servers. I had...More

Description
Where Cafe Saudade now stands, there used to be housed the historical Queijadas da Mathilde cheesecake factory from 1888 to 1974.These queijadas de Sintra (cheesecakes) were a favorite of King Ferdinand II (who restored the Pena Palace). During the 3rd quarter of the 19th century, the king gave the factory founder a stamp marked Mathilde, to brand the cheesecakes bound for the royal family. The Cafe Saudade was restored and preserved over a year long renovation in 2008 and opened in the summer of 2009. Recycled and regional materials and resources were used to create an environment that authentic. We pride ourselves for this and and for the fact that our team offers the best service they can.The spaces of the old cheesecake factory are today a cultural reference in Sintra's recent historical background. Its preservation allows us a glimpse into the ancient manufacturing process of the typical queijada de Sintra.Wander through the "Saudade Labyrinth" and fall in love with Sintra. Visit our Art Gallery and explore the various rooms with pieces of furniture that we restored with love and care, and in which we have handcrafts for sale. We host literary gatherings, jazz and fado concerts and other cultural activities.
