We had a lovely dinner here with my family. The staff was friendly, food tasted great and the atmosphere is quite nice. Not the cheapest place though.

We have visited this place a number of times - the food is very nice and the staff is very helpful. A special mention for Mr. Nilesh. It can get crowded though and prior reservation is recommended

Nice Indian food at Bairro Alto, and a good option to escape a little bit from all Portuguese restaurants. Good food, and nice atmosphere make the place very cosy.

I LOVE Indian food; it's my absolute favorite, so I always seek out Indian restaurants and read all the reviews, trying to find the best one. I felt pretty confident in this one but was so disappointed. First of all, after we sat down, they...More

The food was tasty - the prawn kohlrabi especially- but unfortunately the portions were small and the prices too high to make the experience value for money

What an amazing meal tonight! Delightful ambiance, lovely owner, great service and the prices are so reasonable for the value! Definitely try the Chicken Tandoori as it was the best tandoori I've ever had. I highly recommends going there if in Lisbon!

Even though it was pouring outside that evening, it did not stop people from coming to this small restaurant. Food was very tasty and as good as India Gate which is another lisbon restuarant that we visited 2 days earlier.

Description
The Calcuta
.....started its journey of serving the Indian cuisine in 1998. Situated in one of the traditional and historical streets in the heart of Lisbon. The Calcuta is a real contribute to the preservation of authentic North Indian as well Goan gastronomy. (Goa: Old capital of the Portuguese empire in the east).

Situated in Bairro Alto, a big attraction to all who wants to be distracted, and a very animated place with local life, it is the center of most of Lisbon's agitated nocturne life with typical restaurants, International cuisines, bars, fados houses, bookshops, theaters, some of the most creative ateliers, fashion and design stores. With belvederes, turned to the beautiful landscapes of Lisbon city, Bairro Alto takes part today of the historic and typical areas (with perpendicular and straight streets and flower adorned windows) much loved by the Lisbon people.
