We went there on the recommendation of our hotel. We were disappointed in the food, but overpriced. The service was attentive but slow. I am no expert at fado but for the most part it was good. There was one singer who was a relative novice but she has potential. I was shocked at the 10E per person fee added... More

Music is nice, that's all the good thing here. Food under average. Service, crap. Why, the old man at the beginning give you bread and water but didn't tell you it's cost 4 and 3.8€! 3.8 for one 50cl water! And after asked another lady to take away the bread, we didn't take wine because it's crazy expensive and we're... More

I went with a group of friends to experience fado. Meal service was very, very slow. We arrived around 7:30 and were served our entrees at 10:00. The fish was terrible; not one person in our large group enjoyed the hake. The entertainment was mixed....there were 4 singers, some better than others. I would NOT recommend this restaurant.

The restaurant with average quality food. Only the appetizer was tasty the rest of food was so so. Too expensive wine but good fado singers. Anyway , this evening wasn't worth more than 60 euros.

I took a group of 15 friends to Marques da Se, after having heard good things. The space is really nice, the singers were a mix - one very weak, an average one and one very good. Unfortunately the food was a disaster - piles of salt on dry and tasteless food. i was embarrassed. The wine list was highly... More

This is a 'fado' restaurant where fado singers perform for the diners while you eat. This is an exceptional fine dining restaurant and we especially enjoyed the desserts and port wines while listening to the singers. (Try the rice pudding.) Fado music is traditionally sung by women dressed in black, singing about loss and misfortune accompanied by acoustic guitar players.... More

I took some friends of mine, one from the UK and another two from Israel. I explained them what was fado, they hear some records of true fadistas, and they were expecting for that night to hear fados in a fado's house. I choose the place. I know about the existence of this fado´s house for a while, always tempted... More

Music was wonderful and staff and service were very nice..if somewhat slow. The food itself was uneven..some of our meals were tasty and hearty..others were barely passable...and the prices bordered on rip-off....wines were marked up 6-8 times retail Price ...on top of 4€ cover and 10€ entertainment charge.

We found this gem of a place whilst wandering the streets of Alfama looking for a Fado experience & dinner. It looked very appealing from the outside & we were greeted enthusiastically by a female Maitre De. The interior is very interesting with vaulted ceilings yet it was very quiet on the night we visited. We had great food but... More

There are many restaurants that offer the typical Fado music, but we selected this one due to the architectural details in the cellar location. It was a good choice, and we enjoyed good to great food in an historic atmosphere. The staff was lovely and helpful, and we were pleased to dine with many others who appeared to be locals... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
