Small place tucked away on top of a kebab restaurant. No signs outside so you need to find it. It's been around for more than 30 years. Very friendly staff and owner. Food was excellent and the cook I asked is from Garhwaal in India. We ordered rice, daal, saag aaloo, tandoori chicken, yogurt, keema curry and 2 roti's along... More

Had the samosas (1 pc.-1€), garlic naan (2,50€) Butter chicken (10,50€) and a dish advised by the waiter (forgot the name,10,50€). Everything was really tasty and in my opinion more than worth the money. Probably one of the best Indian food i ever had. Chicken tikka masalla for example is around 7,50€ as far as i remember, so quite cheap.... More

On the recommendation of Indian friends we went here and yes it's very hard to find due to lack of a sign - it's behind some shoe / jewelry store something. We shared several dishes which were very good e.g. The lamb tikka and the chala masala. Our Indian in our party said it was authentic. I wouldn't know, but... More

A hidden downtown place, if I wasn't with someone who knew the restaurant I would just think it didn't exist. The space is really small and nothing special to appease the eyes with some fashion indian style but that doesn't mean you're in one of the best indian restaurants in Lisbon. The staff is really nice, the menu has a... More

Been to a lot of Indian Restaurants in Lisbon claiming to serve authentic Indian food but are far away from the real thing. This is a serious foodie place with no Nonsense. From the tadka dal to Baingan bharta to butter chicken to karahi chicken all dishes are signature. Dont look at the ambience here but focus on the food... More

You gotta go. Here's how you find it: go to R. Condes de Monsanto 4, there's an apartment doorway with a "4" above it(!). There's a tiny watch shop on left and Kebab Mehal on right. Go between them, then up to 1st floor. Restaurant is on the right. Food was very good, service was fastest and most attentive we've... More

This restaurant is Lisbon's "Original Indian" restaurant - being the first Indian restaurant in the city and has operated in the same location for over 30 years. It does not have a street sign. We walked past it twice while searching and paused to ask a gentleman standing in a doorway if he knew where an Indian restaurant was near... More

Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
